Re: Stik's Art - Calligraphy and Illumination

Just a note, it should either be Villaquemada or Villarquemado, to keep coherence between the genders, both would be odd surnames but they work as ancient Spanish I don't make up the names. I just make the scrolls. These are all awards (or most of them anyway) for people in one or the other of the ...

Re: Armored Combat

The nice thing about the SCA (at least around here, other areas may vary) is that if you are new, and want to try fighting, the local fighters are typically glad to provide loaner armor.

Re: Diversity changes

This discussion has gone very far off the rails. Words have power. That is a fact. Words shape thought (after all, we think in words), and shape conversation, and steer emotions. Words MATTER. That being said, my intention in the original post was to point out that Wizbro is making some narrative ch...

Re: Armored Combat

I'm in the States. I've known Andre Sinou (the Knight Fight guy) for about twenty-five years, and although I have seen the ACL stuff up close, there's no way I'm nuts enough to do it. SCA heavy combat (rattan weapons) is dangerous enough for me. No need to start bringing real weapons into the mix.

Armored Combat

I will start by saying that this is not the same type of armored combat that I do. These guys use heavier armor, and real (although unedged) steel weapons, and are much more gung-ho than I will ever be. But this is awesome to watch.

Buy some art for charity, would ya?

Boosting the signal - I recently donated several pieces of my artwork to a charity auction to raise money for a group which provides PPE to medical personnel. If you have any interest in owning a piece of medieval-inspired art, click the link below to visit the site and place a bid. You can find my ...

Re: Books - Good and Bad

Lyrwik - Have you read the Black Company books? It's gritty medieval fantasy about a crew of mercenaries. It takes many of the medieval fantasy tropes and looks at them through the eyes of soldiers who just want to get through the current fight and get home in one piece, and are no longer awed or im...

Re: Books - Good and Bad

Update - I just finished the Dinosaur Lords trilogy over the weekend. If you had any thought of ignoring my earlier advice, I will say again - avoid this series. These were the worst three books I have ever finished. The writing is bad. The editing is worse. The world-building is pointless and super...

Re: NPC/World Generator

Have you ever read/used Central Casting - Heroes of Legend? It's a wonderful tool for randomly generating a character's backstory, and contains a lot of material, in the form of random tables, that might be of use to you.
I just found it in .pdf online here: Central Casting - Heroes of Legend

Re: Opinions on Premade Settings

World building doesn't necessarily need to be an all or nothing thing. Your PCs are going to be adventuring in a small part of your world, at least to start. That part of the world needs to be somewhat detailed, but the rest of the campaign world can be a few broad strokes at the beginning, like bui...

Re: Opinions on Premade Settings

I am going to be honest - I am too lazy to learn all the history and lore of any given setting. I cherry pick the stuff I like, keep the maps and nations, and a little bit of the lore, and just run with it.
