Re: Halloween
All I know is that if I had kids I would take the time to check their treats and prevent them from potentially ingesting crap like narcotics and razor blades. Of course people can take or leave the information as they see fit.

Re: Halloween
As a Halloween enthusiast it breaks my heart to post this, but even though I initially got some of the details wrong I knew I had seen a news teaser from one of the Seattle stations about tainted Halloween candy: https://komonews.com/news/local/oregon-mom-finds-pill-inside-packaged-halloween KOMO is...

Re: Halloween
I'm starting to believe my wife in that tainted treats is a urban myth, has it EVER happened? I've heard that same point of view that your wife has, and while I think tainted treats is something that has been greatly exaggerated since at least the early 80's, I do believe it has occurred; and, sadl...

Re: Halloween
There's a mall not far from my place, and I think most people nowadays just take their kids there, as all the stores will give out candy. It's warmer, bad weather isn't an issue, it's well lit, etc. So probably why I don't see many or even any trick o' treaters any more these days. Also, the parent...

Re: Halloween
Yeah Jaded, I did have a good Halloween, despite only having 8 Trick or Treaters. I thought that the lack of wind and rain would mean more Trick or Treaters. :? Glad I decided to take a year off of putting up the orange lights as few people were out. The highlight of the day was that I marched in ou...

Re: 42nd Anniversary of the term Jump the Shark
I too recall that episode from my younger years, and had purged it from memory until just now. Can I send you my therapist's bill? :D Fun Fact: The opposite of 'jumping the shark' (the specific point where a show's decline in quality can be easily observed as having started) is 'growing the beard' ...

42nd Anniversary of the term Jump the Shark
Just a quick post to commemorate the birthday genesis of the term 'Jump the shark' or jumping the shark. It was on this evening forty-two years ago that the infamous episode of Happy Days aired (actually titled 'Hollywood: Part Three'), where Fonzarelli accepts a dare to jump on water skis over a pe...

Just glad that they got the second goal, and didn't get the win solely from a PK.

"is it metagaming to allow someone to buy up dozens of piglets, or carry 50+ rats with them, even if not a caster, so all the animals fall asleep first, before their character would Not only would I not allow it because it is metagaming, but the logistics of carrying around dozens of piglets o...

Re: Best Wife Ever!
The flip side of this was that my wife, who doesn't like fantasy movies/TV shows at all, got her first experience with GoT in a pub so packed she couldn't get to the bar, and watched an episode that was all combat, and all so dark it was barely visible, and was bored to death for 82 minutes. And ev...

Re: I've had the computer-in-the-shop blues.
Blast it! Got the computer back last week. Noticed when I would leave it for a few hours it would go into a deeper version of sleep. The monitor would come back, but it wouldn't receive any input from the tower. :x Fortunately, the place I took it to the first time has a ninety-day warranty on thei...

I've had the computer-in-the-shop blues.
Yeah, my desktop has been at the shop for the last ten days. The dvd/cd insert had stopped opening, with one of my Twilight Zone dvds still inside, and there were some other issues that needed attention. Unfortunately, these have occurred after the warranty expired. :sucks: Been real busy as well, b...
