The creature Utters a meaningful, "Eek! Wee-Eek," and snuffles. Its whiskers briefly tickle the ide of Sue's face. It does a u-turn and sniffs around the top of the paladin's backpack.

Eyeing the rat with mild distaste, Jim sighs at Sue's question. "I can scout if you still want me to." He shakes his head and continues "I don't understand, I had to walk right past the hobgoblin in that hall for it to attack me the way it did. How did I miss it?" Jim takes a quick breath and continues. "In any case we should map the hall I was attacked in as well as the hall behind the door in the southeast corner before we continue exploring." Raising his voice slightly to be heard better, Jim calls to Alecia and Nix. "Could you come map out these hallways before we move on?" Jim looks at Nix "I would appreciate it if you could come along Nix, you might be able to pick up something I missed."
Assuming Alecia and Nix go along with his request, Jim will lead them down the hall he was attacked in, out through the toilet room and swing back up through the connecting hallways to come back into the room via the southeastern door.

Jim will have his mace in hand for the trip.

Alecia answers, "Yes, of course. But let me map this room first?"
Unless pressed, she takes a few minutes to capture the layout and then follows.

"Me either." He pulls out another piece of ration and leads the rest to sit on his shield.

"So who trained you?"

Once he sees the others go towards the hallway he will try to lead the way with his shield shining.

So, that's about another 10 + fight + mapping mins off Hunter's Mark?

Oh crap, how many times did Sue get hit?
Forgot about concentration checks again.

Alecia continues mapping (until Nix returns).
Rat accepts the food, rests on its stomach and chews the food voraciously.

Jim will wait patiently, occasionally eyeballing the corridor he was attacked in. When he does so, his grip tightens and releases on his mace rhythmically.

Once the rat is done eating, Sue will move over to Jim. He will make sure the rat gets to the floor safely.

"Never had a foe get the best of you before? I know the feeling. Most of the time on the 'Watch we weren't allowed to beat the drunkards and fools too badly."

Woody will follow the group. He will cast light on his staff to help with the mapping.

"Thank you for the sentiment Sue" Looking down at the tattered remnants of his clothing (I don't remember but I don't think we went back to grab "new" clothes for Jim) he chuckles ruefully. "I have been bested before, this past day can attest to that. No, I think what I cannot let go of is how completely I was taken. I have always been able to accurately perceive my surroundings no matter the circumstances... It was the one ability I could always rely on." Watching Alecia wander the room map in hand, Jim continues. "The monks who taught me when I was young were fond of saying "Learning is not easy... often it hurts" As Alecia finishes mapping the room, Jim rises smoothly to his feet and stretches to the accompanying sound of pops in various places in his body. A hint of a grim smile crosses his features "If I meet this hobgoblin again it shall be their turn to learn."
He will lead the party down to the hall leading east to begin mapping.

When the party finally turn their attention to the SE passage, Nix points out that the wall on the end of the first W-E run shows a magical aura. It's the School of Illusion. After a brief Investigation Jim confirms that the 10'x10' "wall" section is illusionary and hides a 10'x10' room. The room contains a 3 legged stool, two waterskins (one empty), two plain wooden bowls (one empty and one full of nut shells) and a well used book (written in an unknown tongue). There is nothing else of interest here.

Jim takes the book and leads the party through the toilet room, turns south and then west and finally back north to come back up into the wasp fight room through the southeastern door.

Uneventfully completed in less than a minute.

Light cantrip still is in effect on Sue's shield.

"Well, that explains that... I've found we more martial types have the odds stacked against us when the arcane has time to prepare for us."

Sue points to the other southern passage.

"Can we get a coin lit for our brooding scout? That one next?"
