"Did you try to move the coffer with your Telekinesis?" Yelb asks. "If it contains something important, let's take it with us." he grins. "In any case, the coffer magic is protection, most probably against opening it. The bowl radiates of alternation... Now this is interesting, don't you think? Something turns to blood? The blood turns to something else?" He then looks at Jar seriously, "Why stop at the candles, let's see what happens if you put one in the bowl?"

[edit]"Maybe the rhyme is the way to open the coffer." Yelb suggests.[/edit]

[the blood looks very fresh. it could be that the alteration preserves it]

'The sealing is to keep something within. The mural intimates that you tear your face off. Sounds like not good in any language. It's carefully hidden. We'll have to come back any number of times. Let's shut it back up and move on to find another tattoo and free the paladin,' responds Ornvul mentally. 'Might even find more information of this stuff elsewhere.'

@Tristen - Was the metal box large enough to hold a body?

[the metal box was not nearly large enough to hold a body. it was about 12"x9"x5"]

'So unless it just holds the bones, perhaps restraining a vampire or maybe a lich, it seems likely that the silver seals in something immaterial. No rush for that; let's push on, maybe learn more elsewhere and come back later,' adds the pragmatic scout.

"I'm going to agree to, leave it closed unless we need it open. Which area shall we try first? I'm going to guess we need to find some keys with matching colours of this phrase."

"We are facing evil forces, why would they alert of evil things to keep at bay? If this was a fortress of goodness I'd understand..." Yelb counters. "This will never end if we will be afraid of any obstacle in our way. If the majority will vote with you I'll follow, but know that I think it is futile to run around like mice over and over until we are certain the re is no way to play completely safe."

'Each tattoo can reveal new things, so we have to keep going over the same ground. It's tedious but not difficult to understand. If you need a rationale to allow you to focus on our main mission, rescue the paladin by finding all the tattoos, then you could assume that it's in the nature of evil to seek out more of the same and probably whatever is sealed in here was so hidious and uncontrollable by those who inhabit this place that they sealed it to protect their own sanity,' answers Ornvul in an attempt to move the group forwards. 'If and when we learn more and are better prepared then we can deal with whatever is sealed in here.'

As an afterthought she adds, 'What, if anything, did Pik sense about the silvered container?'

"They also may have stolen this artifact from a force of good, but have not removed the rune, as they are not ready to summon what ever evil force is inside...."

"Hey Pik, any heebee jeebees around any of this stuff?"

"Open it not open it... just make up your mind... my lantern hand is getting tired."

So surprised by the warrior comment Yelb bursts into laughter. (which can be a very intimidating thing...) "OK, as you wish. Let's keep it seal. We still can take it with us. To keep it safe so no one else will open it and unleash it against us."

Pik moves cautiously towards the coffer. Small scaly hands reach forward ever so slowly, leaving nothing to chance or timing. As his scaly claws get within less than an inch of the object, he suddenly flinches back as if burned. Shaking his head, he backs away, looking scared for the first time since Jar has known him. You don' want nona that, J-man... he shivers. Let's get da fuk outta here...
