Re: The Heart of Darkness... [Main Game Thread]
Bryce gives Galan an apologetic shrug. "Not used to working with many others" he remarks by way of apology. "If yer strong enough for the task, then I'll welcome the assistance."
"Whomever is holding the other end, let's go." He heads back in the tunnel.
Edit - Sorry Tristen. Didn't see your post saying Sorril has the rope. Bryce will search for an obvious trigger to the trap other than the door, if none is found, he will attempt to open the door after giving warning to prepare Sorril.

"Oh well..." Galan says sympathetically. "If you are so eager to check gravity, go ahead." and he help holding the rope. "Wait.. maybe you should check if there is also a trap above your head. Maybe something can fall on you."

Re: The Heart of Darkness... [Main Game Thread]
Bryce checks for any other triggers and ensures that Sorril has a good hold on the rope, with exactly 10 ft of slack. Nodding to the paladin, he attempts to open the secret door. Just as Galan queries him about a potential ceiling hazard, the Dwarf's fingers activate the trigger for the door. The small secret door swings open as the floor tilts sharply, precipitating him to the ground exactly 10 feet below. His magically hardened skin prevents the tumble from doing any actual damage, and Sorril dutifully hauls up after the slack fails to play out completely; pulling the rogue back to his feet.
Boyd finds himself in a 30x30 room with three large chests staged along the mid-line. The ceiling is roughly 15 feet high, and the walls are fairly featureless stone. One chest appears to be gold-plated, another silver, and the last made of sturdy looking dried hardwood (the kind that might dull any good axe) and bound in iron...
===
Now that the 'trap' is sprung by opening the door, anyone can climb down without fear of falling
Bryce falls 10 feet!
Bryce's stoneskin prevents him from harm!
Stoneskin reduced by 1 to [9/10]

Re: The Heart of Darkness... [Main Game Thread]
Once pulled out of the pit, he gives the paladin a nod of thanks. "Prepare for the worst eh?"
Giving the chests a stink eye he grumbles "That ain't suspicious at all." Ignoring the chests for the moment, he'll give the room a dutiful once over visual inspection before moving forward paying closer attention to the floor as he moves into the room. He'll keep to the side of the room making a circuitous route to end up back at the secret door as he inspects the room. Only after satisfied no apparent danger is present will he move towards the chests to inspect them.

Re: The Heart of Darkness... [Main Game Thread]
Bryce circuits the room, scrutinizing every detail of the floor as his Brother Zafron does a parallel inspection alongside him. Neither of the two Mondoons determine any hazards, traps, pitfalls, sliding stoneworks or the like. Once the floor in front of the chests is cleared, Tabbi makes her way forward and spends several minutes inspecting them. To the best of her ability, nothing visible on the outside of the chests in any way indicates that they are trapped; though they are certainly locked.

"Let's space out. If we have learned anything is that everything here is trapped, even if we can't find one "

"HOW BIG IS THE ROOM?" Van shouts into the room from the hall.

"About 30 feet by 30 feet" Bryce calls back "Ceiling is around 15ft high. No traps I can find. Three chest lined up in the middle of the room. One is gold plated, one is silver plated and one is wood bound in iron. Tabbi checked 'em and didn't find any traps." Giving his chin a scrub with his hand he continues "I don't like it. Unless one of you figure it has something to do with the riddle, I say leave 'em alone for now and continue on."

Zafron says" I'm getting antsy." I think we should try the chests.

Bryce shrugs in acquiescence "Fair point Sorril. You all might want to step back."
He heads to the iron bound driftwood chest and sets about attempting to unlock it.

Van will go check out the arch while the others are there.
