Act 2, Scene 3: Twisting Paths

Post by TristenC »

Morning comes to the Dwarven hall with new revelations, for the Tome of the Banished Jordek found the link to Bullock's question

The plaid proves to have been of the Blackrock clan. The only information about them seems to be that they fled North and West after being ousted, shortly before the fall of Dorinkak, and that their the details of their treachery were to be sealed away. Little else of relevance lies within the tomes here...

Their symbol is a pile of coal, glowing eerily from within; much like the fire slowly dying in the hearth...

"Good job Jordek on finding the thing that Bull is looking for." Findalsip scribes down the button patterns from the previous day and the things that had transpired. "Dwarves cities are familiar and odd all at the same time. They don't feel as they blend in with the environment. So much different from us Deep Gnomes."

"Having accomplished both of those now. Is there something in particular to look for? We should probably attempt to get the rest of this artifact gathered."

“Are you suggesting we go back where there is no rock and all of those green plants and such?” Findalsip asks. “ To be honest, I have little idea how y’all do it. So much, openness. It’s downright unnerving and so much light. At least there may be some rubies in this place to find.”

It has been five days now since the attempt on the goblin lair, so one would hope the goblins were sufficiently lax from out last visit. We have 2 of the 3 pieces needed to make our case for borrowing the Amber Sphere. But who knows, they may move the item if we wait too long; and then we are really stuck. Jordek reasons

Findalsip ambles around looking at the 'tartans' and the room with so much knowledge. He wonders if there is anything here that might give his clan the upper hand in dealing with their Underdark foes. Knowing he has gotten himself ensnared with the quest to find these parts he sighs out "You are right, cousin. You can't make me enjoy the journey through to the cave. It is just so... wrong. No rock to keep one safe."

Fin browses the stacks for anything involving the Drow or the warfare. He does find an account of the final days of Dorinkak's defense, but it is clear from skimming that the battles were mainly against orcs and troglodytes; the Drow seldom coming into direct conflict with the children of Silvershield; rather fighting a proxy war by driving their other foes into a position where they had little choice but to punch through the Dwarven city-state.

Most of the texts he finds on the Drow or the underdark are sorely lacking compared to his own people's understanding, though there is some literature on the ingenious engineering and construction of stonework traps that could prove useful.

Is anyone else searching the library before the party proceeds?

I presume the party's next move is to return to the Wetrock Chief's lair?

Findalsip's demeanor takes on the like of that of the others from above being down here. Anxious, unsettled, nervous. "If we MUST go back up there let's not dawdle around with that burning orb overhead. It is soooo bright. I much prefer the safety of the stone."

Before setting out Linar prepares and casts Armor Spell and Regenerate light wounds on himself.
Jordek says a prayer and heals Nocturno [CLW= 8, Noct fully healed] and Katten [CLW= 7, Katten fully healed]

It takes the party several hours to make their way back up to the surface, the morning is bleak and nearby storms threaten to break over the group. By early afternoon nature's threats come to fruition, a significant downpour soaking the party and impeding travel. Around dusk they reach their previous camp just outside of the Wetrock Chief's lair., just as the storms let up. Katten points out that worg tracks have trampled many of the forest paths, but that the recent rain will help mask the party's scents.

=====
There is a decision to make.
-Will the party proceed to assault the Wetrock Chief's lair tonight (going into night as the tribe is perhaps still waking up)
-Will the party risk resting until morning (when the tribe is resting, but risking their camp being found in the night)

The Time is Sunday 6th of Flourish, 7:00 pm

Findalsip will defer to the surface dwellers in regards to be best way to handle this situation. He is feeling a bit off since the party is outside of the rocks.

Bull
Is satisfied after reading the information that was found in the Old Dusty Tome. "It would appear a renegade group of Dwarves killed my mentor. Once I have gathered more power and my armor is complete I will set out to return vengeance upon their clan. My mentor was a well mannered individual that ruled his tribe with Strength and Honor. He was a true leader and did not deserve to die the way he did."

After returning to the surface. " I agree the Wetrocks need to be delt with and now would be a good time to hit them. We could go in straight away and hit them hard while they are still trying to wake up. Killing off the Chief should take down their will to fight."

Katten falls to the ground, clutching Dran tightly she relishes the feel of the grass against her skin, the sounds of the world.. the night sky still above..

"Agreed." She finally states. "We fight now. Kill. Chief will die." She stands, checking her weapons as she rises.
" Kid never learned to clear a room. Doors and corners, I told him. Doors and corners."
