Return [To Madness]: Act 1, Scene 2

A classic 2e Puzzle dungeon for High Level characters
Beware, this one is substantially longer and (IMHO) even harder than the legendary Tomb of Horrors!

Morning dawns in the camp, and there is a nervous energy about. The adventurers seem to be the subject of attention for many of the workers; at least as much as the wild jungle beyond and the mouth of the dark cavern and its sinister depths beyond...

Ke'Sha wakes up, looks at Landro and comments, "You still seem bruised. You should do something about it."

Axid rises and freshens himself and enjoys a fine dwarven breakfast. All the while he practices mental exercises and ponders the puzzles ahead.

Cell adjustment (13) [1d20]=8

"Are we heading in today?"

Stephen heals Landro for 3 hps at a cost of 15 psps. That will require 37.5 minutes of meditation to recover.

Sorry for the poor formatting. Posting from a phone sucks.

So, are we all ready? Axid, do you have the goat and chicken? Wait, where's Master Ke'Sha? Our local 'Angel' is getting antsy that we return to the Labyrinth, and I'll admit I feel a bit of the same urgency. The disappearance of those dead trolls is worrisome. Something has noticed our presence.
============================================================
Can someone remind me why the trolls didn't regenerate? Were they killed with the Death Spell or something?

[ooc]Destroyed by Allikhain's Flaming Sphere and lamp oil after the party knocked them out, with the exception of the ones that fell through Axid's Dimension Door first. Those that fell would regenerate to report and clear the dead.[/ooc]

Axid replies to Stephen: “I was thinking of Rocs and maybe some Bullettes would work at dissuading what other beasties may be waiting for us. I can however stuff a few chickens in my backpack. As for stealth they might ruin that. “

Oh, the livestock is for testing the 'blood bubble', not for fending off nasties. I'll admit a roc or bulette would be much better for the latter. You don't happen to have either of those for a pet, do you?

Both of the Necromancers seem to be absent but a page quickly informs them that Allikhain will be in study until noon. Lena emerges from her tent, addressing those gathered (Jag, Stephen, Landro and Axid).

Have we decided on a course of action for the day? The longer we wait, the...

Abruptly a guard approaches with a local man. Saluting the paladin he waits to be recognized. What is it, man, have they new information? Lena aks.

The tribesman is adorned in animal hides and coarse leathers. He has a spear and buckler which he makes an effort to carry in a non-threatening manner. Despite this he babbles on in that unknown language in a most animated fashion.
Someone translate this! Lena barks to no one in particular.

A few aides scatter and in moments a novice mage is roused from his tent. The fair-haired man is hardly into adulthood, and moves nervously under the eye of the paladin. He pulls a mixture of soot and salt from his pouch and smears it over his brow as he recites his spell. Ah, umm... he says his brother and sister-in-law were... stolen... and their aging mother besides. Perhaps... He glances between the paladin and back nervously, Perhaps the snake demons of the cavern were angered by our intrusion? But there is a message! A message was left, scrawled in the ground. They cannot read it and ask if we would send one of our camp with our 'powerful magics' to translate for them...

Axid gives a quizzical look at the young wizard as he translates. He then looks at Lena. “T’would seem your plans may have to wait unless you have an “under Paladin” or something that can do some investigation while you are otherwise occupied with the rescue. That way we can proceed and wheels of justice may grind away and the proper criminal or criminals be brought to justice. I would hope that none of our party would commit such a foul deed.”

Stephen looks up sharply, and a look of intense concentration crosses his face. “We are being remotely spied upon!” He concentrates for a moment more. "I have blocked them for at least an hour, but that doesn't prevent them from trying again.

We must choose our words with care if we wish to avoid tipping off our opponents. I have good chance of catching them if they try again, but there's no guarantee I'll be able to block them again, and I can only block those attempting to view us remotely; I cannot block those using their own eyes and ears to monitor us. I can silently alert Ke'Sha and all of you except Master Jagrinder here when they try again. Perhaps in light of this, might you reconsider my offer to establish a Mind Link, Master Jag? I may be able to convince Mistress Allikhaine as well. If we converse mind-to-mind, we can discuss our strategy without risk of anyone overhearing. Even Master Axid can join us, although either he or I will need to establish the connection each time. Perhaps instead we could come up with a hand signal I could give when we are being observed?

"Yes, in light of this problem. You can link with me." Jag will reluctantly agree.
