Althiriel shouts for the scouts to aid one another, and Liraeth is already moving to do so as she switches to her spear. The creature continues its assault on Naivara, dodging and slashing so erratically that her ally cannot make contact. The fog surrounding the field begins to thicken, and another creature steps from the mists within arm’s reach of the scout as if it precipitated from the very air! Spittle and putrid breath fly from the creature’s leering countenance as it bares rows of needle-sharp teeth! Liraeth drops her spear in shock at the sudden appearance of the enemy and the grotesque display! In an instant the beast is upon her, slashing a staggering blow across the face and neck with monstrous yellow claws!

Elven screams echo erratically in the foggy night, bearing testament to similar horrors being committed beyond the undergrowth where the other two scouts must be… Althiriel manages to retrieve her bow and fire at the leader of the unknown monsters, but the erratic nature of the melee alongside the nimble and chaotic movements of the creatures causes the shaft to go wide of the mark. Three more of the hideous beasts emerge near the goblins. With feral shrieks they tear savagely into the weaker creatures with sadistic glee! One of the first to appear, still with two arrows in its chest, swings at a goblin with such wild abandon that it falls to the ground! In a desperate attempt to save itself, the goblin takes advantage of the prone enemy. Raising his spear up with all his might he drives it down, fully through the horrifying thing! To the goblin’s shock and terror his foe rises slowly. Blood stained fangs of lethal intent spread wide as the leering grin splits the monstrosity’s face. A deep, evil chuckle rises in its throat, gurgling through the blood as it slowly draws the spear from its chest. Gripping the haft in both clawed hands it snaps the weapon like a twig across its knee!

Face to face with such a display, and with other allies falling left and right, two of the goblins turn to flee towards the woods! Before they can make it more than a pace they are cut down from behind by the freakish beasts. Several of the creatures stop over their kills, mid-melee, and begin tearing at the arms and legs with prodigious strength! Some manage to rip free fresh morsels, while others simply fall upon the dead with a ravenous hunger; snarling and biting and tearing at the flesh! Sylafen draws her bow, aiming carefully to aid Liraeth. As if coagulating from the very mist itself, the leering visage of another bloat-headed beast shrieks at the Elf with deafening volume! Stricken with shock, Sylfaen is utterly unprepared as the creature slashes bloody lacerations across her face and shoulders, clutching her neck with yellowed claws that sink deep into the flesh. It begins to shake her by the throat, wiry tendons and muscles standing tight under the greasy grey-green hide! Althiriel turns, firing a second arrow and connecting squarely with the creature’s side; but the malevolent malefactor is utterly unperturbed by the blow.

*Retreat!* She screams mentally, *Regroup, tell the others, these things aren't right.* And with that she fires another volley of arrows towards the creatures attacking Naivara (S4).

The massacre continues as the remaining goblins turn to flee! One is quickly cut down while another is chased into the forest and tackled by its larger foe. The last goblin miraculously manages to evade the absolute pandemonium, fleeing deep into the night. The hunched figures continue their rabid feast of the dead, filling the air with sickening noises of tearing flesh and splitting joints.

Naivara dives for her spear, managing to gain the weapon only to be struck down by blow of pure savagery. With a triumphant squeal, the wretched creature descends upon his prize; gnawing and chewing at the dying Elf’s throat. Gurgling whimpers echo maddeningly amid the trees before they are finally silenced with a grotesque Crack! Liraeth cries out as Naivara falls! Tears of pain and absolute rage fill her eyes as she reluctantly begins her retreat in the hopes to avoid her fallen friend’s fate... Two more of the gangly figures turn to stalk the scout. In abject fury and desperation she lashes out with her spear, punching a deep wound in one’s chest only to elicit a cruel, raucous cackle from the creature!

Beyond the undergrowth to one side the sound of battle continues as the other two scouts continue in their attempts to make good their withdrawal. Althiriel levels an arrow at the twisted monstrosity, but the erratic movements of the enemy and caution for hitting her ally cause the arrow to miss the mark. The freakish foe spreads his fang-filled maw wide and, like a scene from deepest nightmare, begins to rend and tear at the flesh of Sylfaen’s face with the crunch of cartilage and bone! Her face a mass of lacerations, Sylafen feebly attempts to fend off her attacker but her sword arm hangs nearly limp by her side.

Drawing her blades she brings it to bear on the creature, her mind was recoiling with the horror she was witnessing, her friends were dying. Was this a trap? Only these horrors seemed to be battling against the Goblins. Someone had to tell the others, someone had to get the message back..

[I'm not sure if i forgot to post this or if it just didn't go through for some reason... but here we are. I may have only hit 'preview' last time and closed out when it looked right instead of actually posting... I've been known to make that mistake from time to time ]


The horrific crunching and choking sounds of her dying friend nearby continue to fill the air until a final gurgling scream pierces the night; followed only by the sounds of rending flesh and cracking bones…

Althiriel readies her swords, slashing and stabbing at the crazed monstrosity; but to no avail! It jerked and danced, leapt and lunged in senselessly erratic patterns; seemingly without fear of pain or death. It leered and snarled and spat what she could only imagine were crude obscenities. One thing was certain, it didn’t move or behave anything like a common goblin! The feral creature caught her again with another wild strike, slashing a deep gouge across her cheek! The terrifying spectacle of Sylafen’s fate so fresh, her mind reels at dire consequences if this horrid thing caught hold of her neck!

On the opposite side of the battlefield, Liraeth is quickly surrounded and overwhelmed; her final chilling scream ringing out like a trumpet before ending abruptly. Two of the bloat-headed feral foes begin shoving each other and pulling at either end of the dead elves. Heaving to and fro like some atrocious tug-of-war, punctuated by the popping of joints and sickening sound of ripping meat and skin. Another Elven voice calls out begging, pleading for mercy, for aid, for the gods above to intervene; but amid the cacophonous din of slaughter, no aid arrives in time… Althiriel’s last surviving ally continues her withdrawal, stabbing frantically at her attacker. It scrambles and lunges with feral abandon, stumbling over a fallen log and crashing to the ground in a heap! Seizing the opportunity, the scout turns and runs full-tilt into the forest away from her pursuer and out of sight; leaving Althiriel alone to face the remaining mob…

[essentially if the creatures hit with both of their attacks, they latch onto the neck and do automatic damage by face-biting. Fortunately, all but one of the creatures seem content to devour the dead… for the moment. Sy3 successfully fled into the woods when her attacker fell prone.]

I'm sort of guessing she can do a fighting retreat? Not try to hit anything stop anything hitting her?

Forcing back the urge to Vomit she steps backwards, using her swords to attempt to defend herself from these creatures. She had to warn the Tribe, they wouldn't want her to die like this. Her friends she would Mourn long after this, their souls would join hers until they were at peace.

She wants to move away, going for the cover of the trees.

[OOC] There are a couple of ways to go about it:
-Using the Withdraw maneuver she can move backwards at 1/3 her speed and get both of her attacks, but he can still follow her. She could wait for an opening to run (the creature rolling a 1 and falling prone) but that leaves her open to his normal 2 attacks as well.

-Since she goes first, she could Withdraw a short distance (say 5 feet which counts for 15 feet of move) and then turn and run the rest of her movement (105 feet) with no attacks, but the creature would catch up to her on his turn and attack her twice from behind.

-She could use the 'parry' maneuver along with 'withdraw' to move back 1/3 her speed and essentially roll her 2 attacks against his 2 attacks. if she 'hits' then she essentially 'blocks' his attack. In this way she can move away and possibly prevent getting hit at all, but if he decides to follow her, she will be back in the same spot next round.

-She could simply turn and flee, getting her entire movement and provoking only 1 attack from him. He can follow, but if she opts for 'Running and Jogging' she can make a strength check to outpace him. while this does allow him 1 free attack, he won't be able to hit twice and thus cannot use the special choking thing. If she fails the strength check, he basically keeps up with her and the whole thing starts over again next round.
