Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
Liri's keen ears pick up Bastian's whistles from across the wagon. She doesn't know all the songs, but recognises a few. Luckily, Batian whistles on key, so she is able to smile a few times, remembering the corresponding lyrics.

"People can be quite mean can they not? " Angel muses, keeping Praesul steady, "You have a home, an employer who seems to treat you fairly... Plus you get to travel and see some of the world, I would think they would be jealous." She says with a smile, its not visible to the girl, but its there never the less.
Coughing for a few brief moments, Angel summons the courage to speak once more. "I can empathise, to those that know me I am but the girl who" lied about her age to be a Legionare... The Girl who was discharged..." She frowns, hiding her face from Bastian, "They do not see beyond the obvious."
Smirking at Bastian's songs, she gives a little laugh, "He does make me smile." She contemplates the Salia's words again for a moment. "I believe these people are quite foolish, you have only ever seemed to be kind, helpful and considerate to me..." Angel blushes deep red, her gaze fixing on Liri, no that didn't help... Not one bit.

Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
The day is clear and warm, and the road - well, trail, anyway - is dry and smooth, so the group makes fairly good time for the first half of the day.
Of course, it had to happen at some point, and is bound to happen again as well, but the wagon briefly bogs down, this time because Hiric let it drift too close to the edge of the trail and hit a soft patch of soil. Continuing forward could damage the wheels, so Hiric, cussing, calls a brief halt so that the wagon can be rolled backwards and onto the road. Luckily it is not bogged down so badly as to require that the mules be unhitched and tied to the rear of the wagon to pull it out. Instead, the task is accomplished by backing up the team while the larger members of the group assist by pushing the wagon backwards.
The two rangers recuse themselves from wagon-pushing duty, instead taking up sentry positions forward and back from the group. Sallia takes advantage of the halt to dole out the noonday meal - cold beef and bread, and boiled eggs.
An otherwise comfortable rest stop in a pleasant meadow is hindered only slightly by the sight of two buzzards circling high above. The odor of the corpse is barely discernable to the people on the ground, but carrion birds specialize in this sort of thing - finding dead things to eat. Apart from your group, and the buzzards, the only things moving about the area are a few insects in the vegetation.

(ooc: Assuming Angel didn't just open her heart for a moment and get stonewalled..
, maybe you missed the post... Anyway)
Angel takes the meal from Salia with a smile, thanking the girl politely before sitting down on her own, resting up against a tree. Looking up to the sky she does not notice the man at first.

Accepting her share of the meal from Salia with a friendly thank you, Liri makes a move to go over and sit down with Angel, when her gaze follows the road to where they came from, and she sees the cloaked figure approaching.
"Oi!" she calls out. "Our scouts haven't alerted us that we're not alone on the road. Someone's coming behind us."

"Yes, I just noticed him, but our Scout hasn't." She tips her head towards Maghus.
"Let the others know, I'll watch him." She adds, motioning towards Daos and Bastian.

Liri walks over to Bastian and Daos. Have they heard her call?

Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
Bastian has already mounted his mule. "I'll go speak with him." He turns Gertrude around with a little effort and places his staff on his stirrup much like a knight would hold his standard upright before a joust. "Besides, who would find a drunkard cleric riding a donkey intimidating!" He flashes Liri a big, ingratiating smile before he rides off to meet their shadow.

Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
Elias follows the cleric to within bow-shot.
"Gods," he mutters, watching the cleric depart.
"Be careful," he says.

[OOC] Who is Bastian going to talk to? There's nobody on the road but your group.[/OOC]
"No matter where you go, there you are."
Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
(Ooc sneaky, i wasn't the only one to see that.. No matter.)
Shrugs once more sheathing her sword as she sees the road is clear.
"call him back, false alarm." she calls to liri, (where is maghus?) "sorry, guess I'm jumpy."

Maughus is in his sentry position, about two hundred yards behind the wagon. He is mounted and moving about here and there, but he seems to keep looking back towards a certain spot.
"If we are through with our luncheon," Hiric inquires, "perhaps we might be moving on?"

Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
(ooc: am I having hallucinations or what? There was this half sentence about the strange hooded figure on the road behind them. I remember checking it said figure and not man. I dislike writing that is changing itself, I really do.)
Puzzled, Liri is a little startled when Hiric speaks up, but pulls herself together to smile at him. "Yes, we can move on."
She takes her place again, to the left of the wagon when there's room, in the front when not, but more alert now than before.

Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
The earlier than expected break makes for a long afternoon of travel, but the group just about manages to make up for the lost time, and once the sun begins to set even Fraso sees the benefit to stopping just short of the intended mileage. No sense pushing things on a questionable trail with an overweight wagon.
Maughus, eyeing the surrounding area as dusk approaches, suggests a small detour off the main trail. The ground is grass-covered, but looks exceptionally smooth, as if artificially graded, and is clear enough to allow the wagon to pass. A quarter hour after leaving the main trail the reason for the man-made look is obvious - a building comes into view. The building is small, no more than twenty feet in diameter, and mostly roofless. Much of the wall still stands, but the tall wooden tower which once stood next to the building has toppled and lies in a jumble half on and half next to the main building.
Even from ground level, the site gives an impressive view of the surrounding area to the north. In the far distance the sea is even visible.
"This was a watch tower during the last war. Not enough men up here in the north to keep it manned these days. I've stayed here a few times, on some cold winter nights." Maughus' tone is proud, but he looks a bit agitated. "The wood stove is gone, but there's a pit inside. We can light a fire to cook on without it being seen from a long way off. And there's a well."

Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
"Well, it definitely has its uses to have someone in the group who knows the area." Liri smiles at Maughus, for the first time.
"And we even have wood for our fire." She points to the ruins of the tower.
Liri helps to set up the fire, when Salia starts cooking, she walks out and around the building, a little distance away. Once she is out of earshot of the camp's chatter, she'll begin to listen for anything unusual. hear noise, 1d100=52, fail
Looking out and listening attentively, Liri walks one time around, then approaches Elias, whom she hasn't really met.
