Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread

[OOC] Ruff is AWOL at the moment and Tempest mentioned he'll be a bit scarce for a bit, so, seeing as we can't have everyone waiting for them, Kutz and Elias are getting NPCed for this round. [/OOC]

================================

Kutz and Elias fall back slightly, with Elias moving into the shadow of the wagon to make himself less visible. The two continue shooting at the attackers.

Papa moves between Salia and the charging creatures, attacking with his gladius and blocking with his walking staff. Hiric stands close to Fraso weapon at the ready, while Daos, from his position atop the wagon, lets loose with another volley of glowing missiles.

Angel engages a pair of creatures, lashing out with her sword and injuring one of them, but in the process getting hit herself by a club and a spear. (dmg 6)

Liri fights defensively, not pressing the attack but merely trying to keep herself clear. Nonetheless, one of the creatures bears down on her, blocking her attack and moving in close to attack with a hand axe. (dmg 2)

Bastian raises his hands as the fighting closes in around him, and begins speaking in a loud, strong voice. Forewarned, the rest of the group struggles to ignore his words, barely succeeding. His message, a strident address to all involved, demanding that the fighting cease, and that the matter be discussed in peace, over a round of drinks, has no impact at all upon the foe, although several of them cock their heads in his direction for a moment before resuming their attack.

Several of the uruk-like creatures have reached the wagon, as has one of the larger ones. Ignoring all of the defenders, the creatures concentrate on the wagon itself, apparently striving to destroy it.

Liri's objective and order was to find out what the strange corpse was, she has no intention to fight someone for it, and is not bound to Fraso or anyone else in the group. Seeing that the attackers go mostly for the wagon, she runs past Salia and shouts: "Come, Salia, we flee!" and attempts to reach her mare, Casta.
If Salia comes, she waits for her and helps her to mount bareback, otherwise, she just unties Casta and leads her into the wood. The mare will probably follow her by herself if she's not spooked. Her plan is to see if the wagon is brought anywhere, and to find the elves she and Angel had met earlier.

Seeing Liri go to leave Angel frowns shrugging a little, pulling back she moves closer to Fraso and Salia. Salia was not going to leave her Brother, or Fraso. She falls back to a defensive position, using her blade to block rather than attack.

"Namaarie! (Farewell)" She shouts to the Departing Elf, a little pang in her heart. "We are too little Sir, they are too many. However, I will fight to the death."

(Angel adopts for full defense, protecting the Fraso if she can.)

((Initiative=2))

Bastian, confused in the wake of his failed prayer, rushes toward Salia and Hiric. He opens his arms wide, covering them with his own body as he quickly guides them away from the wagon. "If they want that stinking corpse, they can have it! Your loyalty is to Fraso, not the dead!"

Kutz sees people starting to bug out and decides that he doesn't have anything special to add to this ... so he backs away towards his horse with the intention of joining in the exodus.

A bellowing shout sounds across the clearing, a man screaming at the top of his voice: "Finn's SHOOOOAAAAAALLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!" Maughus charges his small horse across the field, laying about with his axe. The enemy are stunned by his attack, the ones directly in his path seeming to freeze in place as he approaches, and fall quickly to his axe or to the bulk of his mount, which is small for a horse, but still heavier than anything man-sized.
He makes one run directly across the clearing, cutting short-lasting a path, then turns back and angles towards the wagon, trying to relieve the defenders there, bellowing all the while.
The press it too thick for him to get to the wagon, despite his best efforts, and he finds himself stalled in a press of uruk things trying to pull him from his horse.

Fraso stands next to the rocking wagon, staring at the attackers which so far appear to be ignoring him completely. A second large creature has arrived at the wagon. In the day-bright glow of the birch tree, which it is shying away from, as if the light is painful to it, the creature is plainly visible. It's nearly twice the height of a man and three times as wide at the shoulders, with sickly-looking mottled skin in shades of sallowed grey and fish-belly white, with a slight yellowish cast.

Elias saw an ogre once, years ago, on a battlefield near the Adri Forest. These big things bring that encounter immediately to his mind. They resemble ogres, but not exactly, much in the way that upon seeing a coyote, you know right away that it is not a dog. He continues shooting, moving in and out of the treeline to maintain his distance from the enemy.

Daos, somehow, has maintained his position atop the wagon, although now he is standing in the bed, the canvas top having been torn away. He is close enough to the ogre-thing that it could reach out and grab him, if it chose to do so. He mutters a few words and extends both hands in front of him, creating a broad fan of flames which strikes the ogre-thing full in its twisted face and sets its hair on fire. It falls back a step and falls to its knees, dousing its flaming hair in the puddle that has poured from the broken tail of the wagon, bellowing all the while, its cries agitating and confusing the nearby uruk-things.

Hiric stands fast at Fraso's side, swinging his weapon, a club studded with nails, at the nearest uruk-things. Salia, behind the pair of them, has produced a large kitchen knife from somewhere, and stands ready to attack, for what good it will do. Papa lashes out with his gladius, striking one of the uruk-things a serious blow and causing it to drop back, clutching its maimed arm. Strangely, it does not make a sound despite its obvious pain.

Bastian puts his shoulder into Fraso's tunic and pushes backwards, finally getting the terrified man to move. The priest swings his flail while doing so, barely having enough room to do so in the thick press. The uruk-thing he attacks absorbs the blow and lashes out with its own weapon a stone axe. The blow hits Bastian but does not penetrate his armor.

The remaining uruk-things are closing in now, swinging at whoever is in front of them. Angel's two attackers press her, one managing to get past her defenses with its club as she parries the other's spear. (2 dmg)

Liri has gotten free of the press, and is making her way as directly as possible toward her horse, having given up any thought of reaching her saddle.

Kutz, likewise, attempts to flee but finds his way blocked by a pair of uruk-things, each of which holds a battered gladius.

Angel grunts in pain, the wound cutting her leg. "Leave the Wagon, they want the Wagon not us, it is not worth dying for!" She shouts seeing Salia with the knife and how Fraso is untouched, dammit Liri had the right idea.

"Master Fraso, we must leave this wagon." She shouts at the mage.

(Perhaps I was not clear in my last post, she directed the last statement towards Fraso.)

Retains in full defense, trying to protect Fraso and Salia.

When Liri reaches Casta, she will untie the horse and lead her into the wood, trying to get away from the melee but stay close enough to get an idea what is going on. Is she being followed?

[OOC] It's not that Liri has not been followed, but rather that she has not really left the area the enemy is moving through. Although she is not actively engaged at the moment, taking two or three long strides in any direction would likely get her within melee range of one of the uruk-things. [/OOC]

Liri manages to reach her horse and quickly mounts, bareback, and looks longingly at her saddle and her baggage, which remains near the campfire. Might as well be on the moon, at this point.

===================================================

Papa fights fiercely, using his gladius like a front-line legionaire. One of the creatures lies dead at his feet, but he is wounded and bleeding.

===================================================

The uruk-things have fully engaged the group near the wagon at this point. Bastian has managed to get Fraso moving, finally, and is shuffling sort of sideways while keeping an eye on the enemy and swinging when he can. Hiric is walking backwards, with Sallia dragging him by his belt, and he is using his club to fend off the creatures trying to close in on the group.

Hearing Angel's shouts, Fraso looks in her direction momentarily. The look on his face is pure confusion. When she says his name, his expression changes, as if he had been poked, and he manages to string together a few words of reply. "These things, they are grotdeir. They are not supposed to be here. They live deep underground. Why are they here?"

===================================================

The false bed of the wagon has been broken open, scattering water and ice everywhere. Daos leaps clear of the wagon as its frame breaks and lands in the thick of the fray, lashing about with his dagger and looking for an exit.

===================================================

Maughus is flailing left and right with his axe and shield. He is surrounded and struggling to move. Strangely, the creatures have not tried to kill his mount, which is the only reason he is still alive at the moment.

===================================================

Liri tries to move between the enemies, avoiding them as much as possible, trying to get to the point where she and Angel had met the strange elves. She will not engage any of the enemies directly, but is ready to defend herself.

"They want the wagon. Is it worth dying for? I think not." she shouts grabbing Daos and pulling away from the worst of the melee with one arm, the other she uses to defend them. "Go, move, they seek the wagon" she shouts.
