"Cake doesn't settle anything. But one must take advantage of such opportunities. Might be the last time I ever see cake,” Maughus pronounces. More than half of his cake is gone now, and he shows clear signs of pacing himself, to make the second half last longer.
Elias ponders Maughus’ pronouncement regarding the future availability of baked goods and makes his own purchase, and settles on another bench nearby, pausing to drop a few strawberries onto Maughus’ plate in passing.
Eldon is not terribly familiar with the more female-friendly stalls in the marketplace, but knows where they are and manages to bring the women to a few that are more-or-less suitable.
Spotting Angel, some of the clothing merchants hasten the getting-to-the-point portion of the shopping process. It’s unclear whether they’re intimidated, or merely providing the type of service they believe she is looking for.
Although the clothing merchants tend to be somewhat grouped together, interspersed with the clothing merchants are other types of stalls – an indication that the organizers were thinking ahead, allowing people with varied interests to shop in the market together.
As it happens, there is a stall selling knives adjacent to the tailor/seamstress’ stall the group visits.

Liri first and foremost wants to take the atmosphere in. Are the people relaxed, like villagers enjoying a period of relative safety, where everyone can go about their business, or is there some unrest , indicating something unsettling has happened lately?

Angel takes the reactions in her stride, she was used to them by now, everyone assumed she would act in a certain way, gods forbid she might want to buy some clothes.
"We are looking to help this young lady." Angel says in a businesslike manner, reacting off the way she is being treated. "She needs her dress... altering." She motions to Salia, lightly taking the girls hand she brings her over. "Plus I am interested in a Skirt, Leather."
She watches the people walk by, her attention drawn to the people passing by as she stands, her eyes going occasionally to the weapon stalls.

Babysitting some women shopping, what has his life come to? Still Liri, the lovely Elven woman made it worthwhile. Angel, damn she was scary, but then most Mercs were.
The young girl, that was a surprise, what were these people doing? Really, there was something here.
"So, this it? Need supplies, weapons?" He asks with a cheeky grin to Saila, "You look like you could do with a weapon my lady." He bows, giving a quick glance to Angel, watching her actions.

The square is not at all crowded, this not being market day, but the merchants have their stalls open nonetheless. The go about their business in an unhurried fashion, and not having an excess of customers are willing to chat. It seems a typical day for them, safe and secure and quiet.
Of course, this village being a former military depot, the walls of which are still intact and manned, and inhabited predominantly by retired legionnaires, might have something to do with that.
The locals seem relaxed for the most part, although Liri does occasionally notice people staring at her and her companions and even whispering quietly to each other. Although this could be explained by the fact that you are new in town, it seems unlikely, this being a market square and all.
===============================================
The merchant Angel speaks to is a heavyset man in his forties, with a bushy beard and a bored expression that perks up when he hears about leather clothing. "For the young lady, my wife can do alterations. I also have some things that might fit. As to your leather skirt, I don't have such an item in the stall, but could get one for you. What weight of leather are you looking for? Something to wear in town, or to wear on the trail, or to wear in battle?"
===============================================
Salia looks at Eldon, perhaps a bit surprised that he is speaking to her, and looks away from him without holding eye contact, looking instead at Angel, as if the fighter can respond for her. Teenagers.

"Something for the trail, I have armor for battle." She browses the items while paying attention, "How long would it take? And how much?" Her coin purse was getting low, too low. "If we could discuss with your wife? And she will need something else, a skirt and blouse?" She thumbs through the items, looking for something in the girls size. "Would that be ok my dear?"
"Yes, she needs a long knife, something to protect her hand." She says to Eldon glancing at the bandage on the girls hand with regret. "Perhaps you could find one, and tell me and Liri how much?"

Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
"Yeah I can help with that." He doesn't look at Salia this time, getting the idea. "So you girls looking to get back on the road huh?" He probes before looking over at the weapon stall, did there appear to be anything suitable?
Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
"We will have to" Liri answers Eldon, smiling. "We are hired to protect a mage who is travelling, when he moves on, we will. The young lady is our cook and the mage's maidservant."
There's more to me than meets the eye...
Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
"Oh, I guessed that would be the case." the man comments, his eyes on Liri. "Put in a good word for me?"
"Oh, i have a show later, just some juggling, no fire I'm told, last time i tried it wasn't pretty. Would you like to come along?"

Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
"If Fraso allows me the evening off. I have neglected him for some time today, he will be dissatisfied with me." She glances back towards the inn.
"But an evening of entertainment would be rather nice." She grins and takes Liri's hand.

"She's four stalls down, probably gabbing," the clothing merchant says, in the universal mock rueful tone used by husbands since the dawn of marriage. “If you go fetch her, once she returns, I shall be free to go check on your leather skirt. Her name is Addi.”

Eldon walks next door to the ironmonger. He has a selection of blades on display, spread out across a table. Most of them are suitable only for the kitchen, or the field, but he does a few fighting knives behind the counter, hanging on a pegboard. The ironmonger is an old man wearing a short-sleeved tunic which exposes the base of a tattoo on his upper arm. The portion visible shows lightning bolts, but the legion number is not visible. He grunts a greeting and goes back to polishing a cleaver.

"Very well, Liri, stay with Salia, I will go and get Addi", Eldon will you? She looks around realising he had gone.
"If you will excuse." She kisses Liri's hand and turns to the stall directed.

Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
"Hi could I look at the Knives up the back there please?" He asks the Ironmonger with an attempt at a smile. Guards for a Mage? He could work with that, glancing back, the Scary one had gone, leaving him with the young girl and the lovely Elf.. Oh he could get used to this.
Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
Angel finds Addi four stalls down, chatting as expected. The woman seems reluctant to leave her conversation and her tea, but compromises by bringing her cup with her. “Alterations? Smaller is easy. Bigger, you need buy new, I think. Let’s see what you bring me.” The woman walks four stalls slowly, stopping to sip tea as she goes. When she arrives at her own stall she pulls Salia inside, under the awning, by one arm and makes the girl pirouette, then begins pulling and pinching at her clothes to see how much to cut. Salia looks stricken, unaccustomed to being manhandled so, but bears it well. “Hmmmm. Not bad. I can fix. How old, girl? Fourteen? Still young. Tell you what: I stitch small here, but leave you extra fabric. That way if your pillows catch up to your height, you just cut the stitches and let it out.”
Addi turns to Angel: “You leave girl here. Come back three, four hours. I fix dress and underdress. Two silver.”
Addi’s husband sticks around for the negotiation, possibly to support his wife in case things get unpleasant, and then leaves to find his leathercrafting friend.

The ironmonger looks Eldon up and down, and reaches under the counter for another board of knives. These are moderately functional, but appear to be intended more for show than for work. “For you?”
