Bastian wanders over to Barber and peers down at the creature. "You say they were blind...?" His voice seems distant and contemplative. Kneeling down beside the creature gently takes it's jaws in one hand and turns the head back and forth, examining the head.

Looking around from his vantage point he tries to identify one of their weapons, hoping to find one in better condition. "How do blind creatures fashion weapons of war....."

"Are there any tracks to follow back which way they came from? I would hate to think they have a lair near here as it wouldn't be safe for anyone traveling on the roads."

Papa stands back up and helps in gathering any items that might have missed peoples notice (insert search check if necessary, not sure how you would do it).

"As for the ice, if we are going to bring it back, maybe we can make a makeshift carrying device to strap between the horses if the wagon is beyond repair?"

"Glad you got that pillow, Angel. Someone must be lost without it..."

"Salia... " Angel responds quietly, "Those things were more like animals, we are not..." She pauses, making sure the pillow was secure. "Look and see if you van Hiric's things too, perhaps then he will give us a break." Turning to Bastian she smiles, "Does the average Legionaire know how to fashion a blade? These are just minions, warriors for a higher power." Touching Liri's arm she adds. "Leave the coins, they are to heavy to carry..."

"As for them having a lair. Those things were 'not of this world.' if you believe the stories Master Fraso has been telling... If you can concentrate on him for more than a few seconds." She shakes her head, "I would not expect to find a lair anywhere close by."

"So, there was a battle, as you can see." She suggests to the Soldiers, "Blood was split over the body, which we no longer have, these things." She kicks one, "And the Elf like creatures Liri mentioned."

Eldon looks down at the bodies, taking up one of the creatures blades with a frown. "Well and truly dead, not sure what this tells us. Big things arent they? So what happened? Someone wanna tell the story?"

Bastian stares at Angel as if she has just blasphemed. "Leave the COINS?" He rushes over and starts to pick them up by the hand full and then individually if necessary. "Clearly you have never been starving to throw away money in such a way!" Bastian can be heard muttering to himself as he gathers the money. Something about feeding the poor and tithes and some other religious mumbo jumbo involving donations.

"See, I said leave them, because someone else will pick them up." Angel says with a grin.

[OOC]And you folks are all fired up today. I'm going to have to time warp the thread just to keep up on the running conversation, but it's nice to see..[/OOC]
Bastian and Barber kneel on opposite sides of the body while Bastian examines its jaw.
"You are probably correct, Octos," says Barber. "No iris, not much pupil. Big nose and big ears, though. I guess they found a way without sight."

The weapons the grotdeir were using are a mix of stone axes and metal weapons that look to have spend more time in a scrap heap than an armory, although there are a couple of swords, and one axe, that are rust-free, although far from new.

===================

Looking about him, Papa can see that there are numerous tracks. Even a greengrocer could follow the trail that leads away from the clearing. Dozens of creatures were fighting a running battle, churning up the leaf litter in the process. And there are at least two corpses visible in the woods.

Maughus is on foot now, looking at the trail. He glances back at the group and says: "These things didn't just vanish into thin air. They hoofed it. The other things followed them."

===================================

[OOC]Fraso will be quite glad to see his money. Without it, he probably won't be able to pay you, his mercenary bodyguards.[/OOC]

(OOC: Why she suggested taking the gems and the rings, deal with the most portable, she is thinking on her feet)

"Do we have everything?" She asks, "Take these." She suggests, passing Eldon Fraso's rather scary looking implements and personal effects before moving close to Barber taking Praesul with her.

"I do not mean to interfere, but I do not suggest we engage the creatures, if we encounter them." Hefting one of the blades she shakes her head, "I have fought in many battles, this one was two sided, and we were not even a playing piece." Pausing she glances back at the group, "The Elven creatures were deadly and remorseless, they killed our Mage in cold blood, and they held magic far beyond anything I have ever seen."

"Thanks." He grunts, placing the items in his saddle bag, before watching her closely as she moves towards the Legionaries.

"Whats her issue?" He asks Liri, "Likes to be in control doesn't she?" He adds.

"Can't we just follow the trail? I mean, it might tell us something about what we are up against?" He shouts out to the whole group.

At Eldon's suggestion of following the trail, Liri shudders. "You have not seen these creatures, their ruthlessness, of either kind. I do not want to meet them again, not unless I am part of a really big army.

And yes, Angel likes being in control, she's the commander of the bodyguard. She knows what she is doing, so I don't have a problem with it. Do you?"

"They scare you huh?" He winks and kicks a body, "They look pretty dead to me."

At the question of Angel he grins wide, "Oh I don't have a problem with it, its nice to see a woman in control."

"I am curious myself to see just how many more there.... are only to see mind you.. after what we went up against we need to come back with an army ourselves if there are a lot more and with more mages and priests on our side as well... (papa grows silent and you see both his hands form into fists at his side, he continues speaking with an anger to his voice)... The Powers that those elf-like creatures were wielding would be deadly if encountered in greater numbers. I am only thinking of the cities and towns....... that wouldn't stand a chance and be slaughtered. If. Allowed. To. Go. Unchecked."

(Papa walks to the edge of the clearing where he saw the bodies in the woods. His body, visibly shaking, with rage. He unclenches one fist and goes to reach for something, his sword, or his holy symbol, your not sure which. You see one more visible shudder, then his hand drops back to his side, he turns back to the group and for a moment you catch a glimpse of something in his face, was it happiness? was it sadness? or was it anger? your not sure which but whatever it was it is gone and its been replaced with a steelness. Papa walks back to his horse, and he gets back up on his horse).

He looks at Angel, "We have many choices ahead of us, but we have to do whats right, I believe returning these items are paramount and us going to search for more of these creatures in our small group is unwise"

"I'm not sure we get a choice to be honest." Angel responds to Papa, "These items will be missed, but not today, I believe we should follow the trail, with a path this on obvious I doubt we will have issues spotting them."

"What are your views?" She asks Barber, but her eyes are on Liri.

Barber looks at Angel, then turns to Octos, who answers in a low voice: "I see that there was a battle here – a running battle that went off in…that direction. I see that a lot of dead uglies here. None of your invisible-not-invisible not-elves, though. And somebody came back and picked through the wreckage after.
“I’m thinking the fight ended and the winners came back here looking for something.” He rises and takes off his helmet, and scratches his fingers through this hair. “You mercs can do what you like. I intend to see this through.”
“Wheels: head back to base. Tell Viletti what we found. Come back with a full platoon of infantry, or as many as can be spared, in case we need to be rescued.”
"No matter where you go, there you are."

"I think that is a very wise move" Liri says in comment to both Octos's order and Angel's look. She remounts Casta and holds the reins tight.
