CH 4: Heart of Darkness

[Nuke]

Val retreats to pickup her bow that is still lying on the ground before moving back to peek around the corner.

[Jenara]

Listening at the door Arei waits quietly.

(Can you roll for me please?)

[JadedDM]

Areilon moves close to the open doorway and listens carefully. At first, she hears nothing. But then, quite unexpectedly, a male voice calls out in Common. "Hey...? Hello? What's happening? I heard fighting. Hellllloooo?"

[Jenara]

Arei moves closer to the door, peeking inside a moment. "Hello?" She asks.

[HorizonsDream]

"We aren't leaving, Ouragana," Jocelyn points out. "So to survive, we might have to take the lead so that we can avoid this pointless fighting," she adds as she walks over to Gray, places her hand gently upon his shoulder and begins praying.

Jocelyn heals most of Grey's injury, and the gnome nods his thanks before picking up his fallen daggers.

Meanwhile, Areilon looks inside the building and sees, at the far end, is a human male. His hands are bound behind his back, and another rope leashes his neck to a column inside. He is tall and incredibly muscular, with long dark hair, facial hair, and bright green eyes. He's also not wearing anything other than a loincloth.

The mountain of a man seems completely shocked. "You...you speak Common? Hey, that means you're not from here. Are you here to rescue me?" he asks hopefully.

[Jenara]

Stopping to inhale deeply Arei looks him up and down with an appraising glance, "Honestly no, we are here on a scouting mission. I don't suppose you know what happened to the Dwarves do you?" She asks as she steps inside, sword drawn, blade at the ready. "Areilion." She offers, checking out the ropes, one sword strike should break that. "Who are you?"

[Breila]

Ouragana sighs. "You're probably right, we're not going to leave that soon. So we might try to see what happens when you and I are the first to be seen. I just hope that they truly will attack only non-humans, at least as long as they don't see the fae and dwarves in our company. And I trust you to heal me if we are attacked all the same."

[JadedDM]

"I am called Andar," the man says. "I am a crewman of the Lusty Mermaid, a Guild merchant vessel. Our ship found this island by accident after a storm, but when we embarked, we were attacked by the savages that live here. Some of us were left behind in the chaos. The savages killed the others, only leaving me alive, I think, because I am human."

[Jenara]

"Then you had better come with me then." Grasping her blade she swings it down on the rope.

[JadedDM]

Areilon's sabre severs the rope that is tied to the column, although Andar's hands remain tied behind his back. "My thanks," he says, walking up to her. Especially compared to one as petite and small as Areilon, the man is massive, standing at least six feet high.

[Jenara]

"Oh it's my pleasure." Rubbing herself against him she taps his arms, "Can you lift them a touch?" She rests the black hilted blade against the rope, checking if she can cut it.

"My smaller blade is outside. I assume you can fight?" She asks admiring his form.

[JadedDM]

Areilon gently saws through the ropes with her sabre, freeing Andar's hands. He rubs at his wrists and turns toward her. "Yes, I can fight. And I'll be happy to exterminate as many of these savages as you want, with gusto," he says passionately. "But how did you make it so far inland on your own?" he asks.

[Jenara]

"I am not alone, my group is outside." She says, glancing at the doorway, "So the others are dead?" She asks, "Step outside, there is a battle going on out there."

"What weapons can you use?" She keeps near him, she moves to the door.

[JadedDM]

Andar nods. "They killed my dwarven and gnomish companions and hung them from trees, to the north of here." He steps outside and looks around. "There is no battle here. It is all quiet," he remarks. He looks to the right and spots Val peeking around the corner. "Be careful, it's an orc!" he calls in warning, and puts up his fists, ready to fight barehanded.
