CH 4: Heart of Darkness

[Nuke]

Val wanders the ship aimlessly, not really knowing what to do before she finds herself at the bow, wistfully staring into the distance hoping for some sign of Mist.

She continues to be confused by the whole situation.

Jocelyn walks towards where Dalaim is. "So they sent me to talk to you about payment," she says.

Cargo Hold
"Hmm, let's check," the quartermaster says. He digs around in the crates again. He finds a strange staff-sling that resembles a giant slingshot. "Eh, that's useless," he comments. Then he digs out a mace with a head shaped like a spider. "Eww, that's disturbing," he says, quickly putting it back. Then he digs out a chest plate of armor with Imperial symbols carved on it. "Nah, too boring. Oh, here we are!" He finally retrieves the leather strap and hands it over. "On the house."

Sterncastle
Although a decent-sized ship, there isn't too many spots where nobody is around. But Ouragana finds some measure of privacy up on the sterncastle. She studies the broken arrow quietly. As far as she can tell, it's fairly simple in design; a stone arrow head, likely carved with another stone, fastened to a stick of wood with some leather string. 'Primitive' would likely be the word used by someone like Dalaim.

Bow
Val stares out from the bow. Oren is there, too. But he simply nods quietly to her, leaving her alone. There is no sign of Mist, but she's likely not too far off from the ship.

Starboard
Jocelyn walks across the ship to reach the old cleric, just as Val leaves. "They?" asks Dalaim, turning toward her. "Do you represent the group now?" He sighs. "I can't pay you lot much. All we found was that drum, after all. I can give you 120 gold pieces, but no more than that. Like young Grey said, though, at least you got some potions out of it, too."

(OOC: We never really did nail down which era of ancient history Ouragana has studied. Prehistory, like Dalaim? Or one of the three empires; Ruara (elves), Farikak (dwarves) or Eonia (humans)? Or possibly the Malice Dynasty (goblinoids)?)

(OOC: like everybody, I guess, I assumed the Storm Sorcerer Academy would be organised along the lines I know. In the German Education system, studying Ancient History would mean first being given an overview and then, possibly, delve deeper into one era. Being a navigator first and foremost, Ouragana wouldn't have gotten past the overwiev. But she had expressed a lot of interest when the chance to study the ruins was mentioned, so I'd assume she had paid extra attention during the Prehistory lessons. But of course, if you decide the educational system to be different, we could say that she has studied Eonia mostly, with a glance on Prehistory to explein how things came about)

Ouragana puts the arrow away and takes out the strange dagger they found, to examine it at leisure in the light of day.

"Thank you. It's a pleasure doing business with you." Taking the strap she hefts the weapon and bids him goodbye with her hand.

Stepping out onto the deck she starts to look for Oura.

Areilon steps back up onto the deck, and searching around, spots Ouragana sitting alone on the sterncastle, examining the elven dagger that was found on the island.

The dagger is of excellent craftsmanship, and despite likely being hundreds of years old, is still in perfect condition. The elven runes carved onto the blade seem to almost glitter in the sunlight. It was almost difficult for the mage to fathom the fact that elves were forging steel weapons and imbuing them with magic back when all of humanity was still on the same technological level that those tribals had been.

Areilon spends 40 gold pieces on a light crossbow, a bolt case, a leather strap and 20 light quarrels. Areilon is now in light encumbrance.

(OOC: It's less to do with the education system, and more to do with the rules regarding the Ancient History proficiency. I'm sure Ouragana studied all of history in the academy, but having the proficiency means she is an expert in one particular era. Adding additional slots to that proficiency allows her to be an expert in additional eras. I'll put down Eonia then, since that is what you chose.)

"An interesting item, part of my heritage." Arei comments as she approaches Oura, placing her arm around the Sorcerer she looks up, giving her a smile. "Please do not be mad at me."

[Breila]

"Why should I be mad at you?" Ouragana asks, puzzled.

[Jenara]

"I ahhh I met with the Ships Storm Sorcerer.." She looks out to sea a little flushed. "I said you might need to talk to her." Blushing she continues. "I had a concern."

[Breila]

"What did you see her about?" Ouragana still seems confused. She is speaking flatly and softly, not really interested.

[Jenara]

"She identified these potions. They are healing potions." Arei answers aware the Sorcerer was still being quiet and thoughtful. "She suggested she would like to meet with you."

[Breila]

"Meet with me?" Ouragana sounds alarmed. "Did she say why? Has Dalaim complained to her about me?""Did she say why? Has Dalaim complained to her about me?"

[Jenara]

"Not in the slightest. " the elf shakes her head. "Rather I suggested we had a hard time, and who better to discuss the way a Storm Sorcerer feels but another? This all me, why I said sorry."

[Breila]

"I see" Ouragana answers flatly. "Then I'd better go see her, I suppose." She rises and passes by Areilon with a nod, sheathing the dagger.

She goes below deck and knocks at the storm sorcere's cabin door.

Turning away Arei takes up the crossbow, practicing loading from an old memory.
