Wow, it took me hours just to post XP and this post because my internet kept dying.

I'm going to update the calendar and places and people, then post my notes here, before opening chapter 6. I mean, assuming my internet will let me and all.

Okay then. We have a couple of level ups.

Horizon, to level up your character, please roll and post 1d8-1. The -1 is from her poor CON score. If you roll a 0 (1-1), you still get a minimum of 1 HP. Breila, you just need to roll a simple 1d4.

Because of her high WIS, Jocelyn gets not one, not two, but three second level spell slots.

Breila, one of my house rules is that Find Familiar is not a spell, but a ritual that any mage can perform once they hit 2nd level. It works exactly like the spell, though. Which means if you choose to summon one, where you perform the ritual will effect what you might summon, the ritual can take up to a day to perform and prepare, it requires 1,000 gp worth of incense and herbs, etc. So Ouragana probably can't pull it off right now, but it is an option for later, should you choose to take one.

I've updated the Calendar and Places and People.

The title of the chapter is a joke, a play on the phrase 'the call is coming from inside the house,' an old horror movie trope. A 'sending' is a spell that lets you communicate with someone over a long distance, not unlike a telephone could.

I was still tinkering with the alcohol rules in this chapter. If they appeared inconsistent, it was because I was still trying to retool them. I feel like I've finally settled on the specifics now, so they should remain consistent from here on out.

I felt bad killing off Maronna (whose name was never learned until after she died), but I decided it would be too odd if the party left for a whole week and the murderer(s) just sat on his/her hands waiting, especially after it was already established the murderer(s) strikes once a week or so.

Poor Brock. Did anyone notice this? During his conversation with Jocelyn, he said his wife was killed by a crazed Leaguer fire mage who also burned down the inn, 40 years ago. When Ouragana first met him (waaaaay back in CH. 1, on the first two pages), he warned her not to 'burn anything down.' When she took offense, he told her he had 'dealt with her kind (mages) before.' I had actually written Brock's and Maronna's backstory before the game even began.

I liked the conversation the party had with each other in the suite, about love. It really showcased how very, very different the four girls are in that department.

The party found several clues at the windmill back in chapter two, but they are only now getting XP for it.

I think I mentioned before, but I never expected the party to question the families of the deceased; and consequently, never created them until the last minute. I suppose in retrospect, that possibility really should have occured to me.

In mysteries, you're always supposed to have at least three clues; this is because with fewer than that, the party may miss them, misinterpret them, or ignore them. But if there are at least three all pointing in the same direction, the party is more likely to see that. The clues at the mill were one, and the 'gibberish' from the temple was the second. The party has yet to discover the third, although they did get really close at one point.

I had decided, though, as a failsafe, that as long as the party made some progress and made no effort to hide the fact that they were investigating the murders (which they didn't), the attack would happen that night regardless. That way, if they really got stuck, things wouldn't just peter out.

Speaking of which--clockwork spiders. Who saw that coming?

Now my thoughts for each of you individually:

Horizon
You did surprisingly well with Brock. When it's time for Jocelyn to face the church to determine if she is worthy of being fully ordained, this is definitely something she'll want to bring up.

Breila
You finally made it to level 2! Of course, there's no chance at all of you hitting 3rd level with this quest, but I figure you should get there by the end of the quest after this one. At which point, we'll be ready for the next arc.

Jenara
In all honesty, had Areilon attempted to sneak off during the night to get picks, or whatever, she would have been ambushed by a couple of spiders by herself. It's really unlikely she would have survived, so it's a good thing she didn't do it!

Nuke
Wow, two fumbles in a row last battle. Good thing the fight ended first. If we weren't using a random number generator, I'd suggest you get new dice. Anyway, turns out this wasn't entirely a 'talky' mission as Val feared. She'll have an opportunity to kick butt yet.

By the way, everyone make sure to specify what you leave in your rooms and what you take with you before going anywhere; some of you may be encumbered otherwise.

Chapter 6 will be up soon.

Site was really slow too.. And wow, a simple stiletto killed it in the end.

And yes, she isn't the best warrior. Is she...?

She has her moments. Better than a normal thief (without a kit), but not as good as a fighter (who has better AC, higher HP, and more attacks per round).

Areilon's problem is she is cocky. She believes she can handle any obstacle by herself. Sooner or later, this attitude will get her into hot water.

Just the way I imagine her, she needs to learn that she can't do everything by herself!

Some notes:

The Wand of Magic Missiles can be used by anyone, but it requires an attack roll if used by a non-wizard. When a wizard uses it, it works just like the spell. It can fire one or two missiles per round, though, that's it.

The ring is a Ring of Protection +1, if Brock's description wasn't clear.

I do believe that's the first time in the game Areilon has used her Flash and Pizazz ability in-game. It probably is better suited for enemies with low AC, though.

The plan was to do something fancy, and it failed! You shall see it used more, trust me.

Did Areilon leave behind her belt pouch, too, or just her backpack? Because according to her inventory, she has her belt pouch with her, which contains the three potions she took from the island.
