CH. 8: Reunion

As the women talk, a man walks into the temple wearing a brown hood and cloak, despite the hot summer weather. He's fairly ordinary looking, with short brown hair and very tanned skin. Jocelyn does not recognize him, but then even after a year, she has hardly learned the names of faces of all 500 people in the village.

"Uh," he hesitates, seeing the mage, elf and half-orc. "Excuse me for interrupting, pastor. I need to speak to you privately at once. It's a bit of an emergency."

"Yeah, we can talk privately later, and the town has been peaceful since I've been here," Jocelyn said before she turns her attention to the newcomer. "Um, sure, we can talk in the back," she adds as she turns to lead the man away. "Excuse me," she says to her friends.

[Breila]

"Of course. We will wait outside" Ouragana says with a bow to the newcomer and Jocelyn, and exits the temple. If there are seats available in the courlyard, she'll sit down on one of them.

[Jenara]

"Of course, if you need our help, just shout." Arei says turning from the church, "Shall we sit in the sun and relax?" She asks, taking Val's hand again, "Come lets sit."

Jocelyn and the man step into her private office. He immediately walks over to the window and looks out it while she closes the door. "I am in need of spiritual guidance," he says, his back still to her. "I've committed a grievous sin, and I didn't know who else to turn to," he continues. He lifts his arm and pushes his hood back. When he does so, Jocelyn can faintly hear the sound of leather creaking under his cloak.

Jocelyn makes an Alertness check [18] (1d20): 11, pass. She realizes the man is wearing leather under his cloak.

Jocelyn remains on alert at this point, figuring the man is wearing leather armor, but she doesn't quite know what for. "And what is this sin you've committed?" she asks.

Val takes Arei's hand as she walks out. "Jocelyn has done well for herself, hasn't she?

[Jenara]

"Very well, very well indeed." She responds, "I doubt she will be up for any wandering through the countryside anymore." She says with a frown, "How long do we give her?" She adds, "I that looked important, but..."

The man pauses a moment, looking out the window, his back to Jocelyn. He subtly reaches into his cloak. "I murdered a pastor," he says, turning toward her and drawing a glistening dagger. "The Poison Curse sends their regards, you mutinous bitch!" he cries.

Normally, Jocelyn would take the man on, on her own, but she seems almost paralyzed in fear. She does managed to let out a scream, as she is hoping that they are still there, as she goes into full defense.

(OOC: Yes, the scream is quite loud--that was Jocelyn's intent. No listen check is needed to hear it.)

"In!" Ouragana shouts, turning on her heel, cursing herself for having overslept that morning and thus having been unable to memorise any new spells. she will let the other two pass her, though, because she knows she is of liitle help.

[Jenara]

"Damn! Val now!" Arei spins with her usual grace and draws her blade mid stride. "Oura, stay behind, if the fight turns sour go and get help." With that she darts into the church, and towards the room they saw Joyceln go to.

Before Jocelyn can get up her defenses, the assassin moves in to attack. He stabs with his dagger, but she steps to the side, avoiding the strike. She then goes into a defensive posture, screaming for help.

The others rush inside, but Ouragana stays behind in the main worship area while Areilon opens the door to Jocelyn's study to see the assassin, glistening dagger in hand. Val is right behind her. The assassin looks to the two newcomers and hesitates, as if unsure how to proceed.
