Re: CH. 12: Wyvern's Island
"Good call to have Val in the back. We all knows what happens to her after few days without shower!" He grins at Val. When the order is decided Baeros asks Ouragana, "So, any idea what exactly are we looking for?" and while waiting for an answer he looks back at silly Hopper, running like crazy on the beach and then he says to Takit, "You can join him boy. Go!"
Re: CH. 12: Wyvern's Island
"By the old map we have been studying, the mansion should be almost due South from here" Ouragana tells the group. "But we might want to keep a little to the East, to avoid the highest crest of the mountains" she adds, pointing to the peaks.
She takes out a sheet of papyrus and realises she has only ink and quill, no piece of charcoal. "Coudl someone please burn the end of a small stick to make a charcoal pencil?" she asks. "We won't be going very fast, so I think I can take the time to make a map of where we've been."
For the time, being, she doesn't want to take out her compass dagger, it will be early enough when they've turned here and there along the obstacles of the way. She doesn't want to lose her skills through lack of use.

Re: CH. 12: Wyvern's Island
"All right, let's move on. We have only three days and a canon to find. And that without mentioning the lingerie!!" Baeros presses on and soon enough whistles for his dogs to catch up.
Re: CH. 12: Wyvern's Island
"So, what's up with this canon?" Dhan asks.

Re: CH. 12: Wyvern's Island
"It is an ancient Eonian canon," Jocelyn says. "The Bullring wants it as they believe it will help in the fight with the pirates that I have to face," she adds. "So, they sent us to look for it. Can someone burn that stick for Oura. The last thing I want is to get lost on this island."
Re: CH. 12: Wyvern's Island
"Ah, here you go," Thaddeus says, procuring a piece of charcoal from his components pouch and handing it to Ouragana.
The party begins moving due south, Ouragana taking notations on her map as they travel. Their progress is quite slow, because they must all slow their pace considerably so that Brock can keep up with his limp. Still, it's a pleasant enough day, on a beautiful beach--not the worst place to be moving at a snail's pace.
When they are at about 60 yards from the jungle, three figures suddenly burst from the greenery and begin charging toward the party. The figures are around 9 feet tall, and very skinny--almost to the point of malnutrition. Their skin is a mottled green and their stringy hair is black and oily. Their arms are almost comically long, but they end in razor sharp claws. The creatures could have waited for the party to get closer before launching an ambush, but for whatever reason, they grew impatient.
"Trolls!" Brock cries out in warning. "Watch out, they're strong and fast and they heal fast, too. Only fire and acid can kill 'em!"
===============
(OOC: The trolls are still pretty far away. Each hex is 5 feet. Keep this in mind when calculating ranges and movement rates. The green line at the top of the map represents where the jungle begins. Assuming the terrain you are fighting on is simple beach sand.)

Dhan is going to douse the leather strip in the oil he... acquired, wrap it around the tip of one of his crossbow bolts.(In hopes that he has time to do so)

Re: CH. 12: Wyvern's Island
"Hopper! Get behind! Val! Come to the front! Eveyone into battle formation!" Baeros gestures with his hand. He takes an arrow from the quiver and shoots at the charging Troll running in the head.
==============================================================
(OOC: We haven't described our battle formation yet, but it seems like a good thing to shout when Trolls are rushing at you. That, and "AAAAAAAAGGGGRRRRHHHH".
The long bow longest range is 170 ft, the trolls are a little bit closer if I'm not mistaken. I don't remember the modifications for long range, is it -1 to hit? Anyway I rolled with no penalties and you can adjust the result.
Initiative, Hit A01, Hit A02: (16,4(AC16 miss),21(Critical hit))
Dmg A02: (5) )

Ouragana takes a few steps to the left to have a clear viewing field. She waits for the troll st come within range, then casts Irritation on them.

Re: CH. 12: Wyvern's Island
Thaddeus draws out a rather fancy looking wooden wand from his pack and points it forward. "Adflatus!" he cries as two red bolts of energy blast from the tip. These bolts fly over the heads of Granite, Brock and Hopper and soar across the beach sand before both striking the lead troll, leaving nasty bruises behind.
Brock draws his axe and shield and moves to the front-line and beyond. "Come here, you ugly bastards! Come and get me!" He bangs his axe against his shield, trying to make himself a target for all three trolls.
Ouragana takes a few steps to the side and readies her spell...she just had to time it for the trolls to be close enough...
The three trolls move forward quickly, roaring in a mad frenzy, their claws extended. They don't quite make it to the party, though. While this happens, Granite calmly pours some lantern oil on a leather loop, ties it to a quarrel, then loads it into his crossbow.
With the trolls now close enough, Ouragana begins speaking the proper incantations while making the necessary gestures. Magical energy cackles around her and then she points right at the troll leader. All three trolls skid to a halt, as if suddenly puzzled by an unseen sensation.
Pulling out her holy icon, Jocelyn begins praying to Octhanus, goddess of mercy, love and peace. She calls upon her goddess to aid them in this battle, and a feeling of calm and hope fills each party member that steadies their hands.
As Val moves toward the front of the party, near Brock, Gallath and Baeros both nock arrows into their bows, then point them upward. Their arrows arc up into the sky, then down at the trolls. Gallath's arrow lands just inches away from a troll's foot--so close. Baeros' arrow, however, lands about 40 feet behind its target.
Now in position, Val finds she only has time to fire one arrow. She nocks it, aims and fires in one smooth process. The arrow flies forward and strikes the lead troll in the left arm, causing it to cry out in pain. Gallath and Baeros take aim and fire again, as well. Gallath misses again, the sun getting in his eyes. But Baeros has better luck, striking the lead troll in the right shoulder.
Takit remains at his master's side, awaiting his orders. Hopper, though, just tilts his head at Baeros in confusion, as if not understanding. Instead, he scratches at his ear a bit.

(OOC: I realized I once again, had the map upside down. The party is heading south, not north, so the map should be flipped. I fixed it. Sorry for any confusion.
The three trolls should reach the front line next round, unless they decide to stay and scratch the irritation on their skins. If they decide to ignore the itch, they will suffer attack and defense penalties for a few rounds. I'll probably make morale checks to see if they stop to scratch or not.
Troll 01 is at 53% HP, but the other two have yet to be hit.)

Re: CH. 12: Wyvern's Island
"We're going to need some fire if we are going to keep these things down," Jocelyn calls out. She can only hope that one of the mages in the group will be helpful in that area. If not, she had her own prayer to help out but she didn't want to be on the front lines. Instead, she pulls out her sling, loads up a stone, and takes aim at the first troll.
