Act 1, Scene 1: "Together in Harmony" (Game Thread)

[Ooc: the fact that music is still being played might be discernible in the washroom, but not the words through the closed doors.

Nocturno: I figured that was what you meant but I just wanted to be sure. Of course you understand it looked like a 10 year old trying to pay the bartender with 'play money' ]

The warmth of the water leeched the chill of the season and the weariness of travel from their bodies. Soon they were clean, and the food and drink had satisfied their needs. The innkeeper came to check on them a couple of times, and music wafted in briefly as he did. Relaxing in the water, the melody washed over them as they listened with half an ear. Something about those words seemed familiar to the Kender... When the inkeep went out again, he listened closer. The redhead woman must still be performing, but those lyrics... they were elven... Silvanesti, even!

In the common room the patrons enjoyed the tune, but nobody appeared to have any reaction to it specifically... that was until near the end of the melody... when Merrick walked in. He froze in the doorway as the final line lingered. Silence hung a moment in the air as the strings of the lute rang out their vibrations. Applause snapped him from his shocked state, and he nodded to Mira before taking the only available seat near the bar and ordering a wine.


[Pyros wis chk in bath [1d20] = 7. Pass. Pyros recognizes the language of the song from just a short burst as the door opens.

"Washing off the grime of the road so I can ge put it back on again, bah we're all doomed!" Mumbles Yasir as he bathes and then eventually drags himself from the water. Dressing himself in his clean clothes and then makes his way to the bar counter.

[Jenara]

Keeping her eyes fixed on the door to the washrooms, Mira switches to a few fast gypsy style orchestral numbers giving her voice a rest until the she gets the usual sign that her dinner is ready, walking to the bar she taps the half elf on the shoulder and smiles.

"Sometimes things never cease to amaze me, please join me." She says pointing to a free table (I'm hoping there is one, or one can be found for her to use). "We are not alone, three travellers just arrived, including one of the light fingered."

She will head to the table, meal in hand and eat, if he joins her she asks how he came here.

[OoC: That is exactly what I was going for lol. He still think steel is the way to go to impress people!]

Mid bath, when he hears the song.
"Thats elven!"

He will speed up his bathing a bit once he makes this revelation.

Once he is done, and the other are busy dressing, he will pull on his pants and shirt, grab his belts of pouches, and suddenly appear at the musician's side. Wherever she is at the moment he comes out of the bath. He won't make himself known he will just follow closely if she is moving, or just sit down beside her if she has a seat.

Mira plays a little longer, watching the hall closely. Eventually the warrior emerges and heads for the bar, but there is no sign yet of the other two. Guilliam nods to her, indicating that she can take her meal whenever she is ready. Glancing about, she is pleased to see that the place is packed; unfortunately that means there are no tables to be had. She did know, however, that there was a long table in the kitchen where the servers sometimes ate; and had taken a meal or two there herself.

Mira taps the half-elf on the shoulder and speaks quietly to him. At the mention of ‘one of the light fingered’ he looks around suspiciously, then almost jumps as he spots Pyros standing a half pace behind her! A look of nervousness, bordering on fear, comes over him but is quickly smoothed away. He watches the Kender warily, keeping a certain distance from him.

Yasir reaches the bar, but notices that Pyros has moved on to linger behind the musician. There was no sign of the halfling woman yet. The bartender approaches to take the warrior’s order.

Hast thou a place we may draw less notice? Merrick asked the bard in perfect, but archaic, Krynn Common.

[OOC: just to reiterate. Anyone can understand common from another land, though it sounds strange. The common Merrick speaks is originally from Krynn, but it is far out of date. Harmonian is an exception to the ‘common’ rule, but for special reasons involving the creation of the domain itself.]

[Jenara]

"I have a room, but I believe we can use the kitchens, the staff know me as I'm sure they know you." Winking she turns to the Kender who is attempting to eavesdrop. "And what might you want Master Kender?" She asks in Kender language. "I take it is misty out."

"Master Guilliam, may I use the table in the kitchen for a short while? I will then resume my set." If he agrees she takes Merricks arm and leads him from the Common room.

"Master Kender, find your friends, we will talk after my set, as I planned. I trust you are being cared for as I asked?" Switching once again to Kender she moves away, clutching her lute. "Steel is worthless here, as you will find."

[Nocturno]

Pyros' mind will swim for a second. Elvish, then KENDER! Someone who understands me!

He will fumble with his words for a moment. "Yes a luxurious bath, very good food. Thank you." which will come out in Kender.

Pyros will head over to Elsa, if she is not out of the bat, he will head to Yasir and strike up a conversation, about Yasir's exploits with the Ogre.

Mira and Merrick: Wayfarer's Rest, Kitchen
Kitchen? Guilliam asks. Yes, of course... umm... if they need rooms, I have only one left... the festival, you know. It has two beds, though. You speak their language? He asks as he follows the pair into the kitchen and has her meal brought.

Anything for you sir? he asks the half-elf. Just a Meekulbrau, please, he replies in Harmonian.

Yasir and Pyros: Wayfarer's Rest, the bar
Seeing that Elsa has yet to emerge, Pyros heads over to the tan warrior and begins to question him about his adventures. Just then the Halfling does return, but this time in a white sun-dress with little yellow flowers embroidered across the hem and bodice. The golden hair almost shone, and those soft brown eyes were full of kindness and warmth. Her pack and gear are carried on one shoulder, and she plonks the mass down by the two of them at the bar. She waves to a waitress, who nods and brings her a glass of rich red wine. Oooh, that was nice. Nothing like a good hot soak to bring you back, she giggles. I need a place to put my things, where’d the innkeeper go?

[Jenara]

"They will no doubt need rooms, and yes I speak a language in common them, I can translate if you require." She touches Guilliams arm for a moment. "Thank you. And..." She rubs her head with her other hand, "If you have a spare bed, the 'girl' can share with me. If that is acceptable?"

With that done she takes her dinner into the kitchen and offers Merrick seat, "You have been here for sometime, haven't you?" She asks the half elf, taking a bite from her dinner.

[Namenlos]

"I need a drink of some strong, dwarven ale!" Bellows Yasir from the counter, looking for the innkeeper.

If Pyros approaches and asks about an Ogre Yasir will explain. "It was twice as large as the largest ogre ever, so probably more like four times the size of a normal ogre. It could eat a cow whole and crush boulders in its hand! But it also had a strange fetish for gloves, it was never able to get gloves to fit its huge hands. So whenever I passed by the ogres cave I always brought an extra extra large set of gloves, and a couple of expendable mercenaries just in case!"

[Nocturno]

Pyros will listen in awe."I gloved that story! You're going to have to tell me more!"

"I wonder how long it will take to get something other than cider to drink!" Pyros let out a huge sigh.

"Elsa you clean up better than river trout on a summer day!"

Pyros will try to secure a flagon of mead.

Yes, well if they don't mind sharing I'll reserve it for them. We can bring a bed up for the lady, if you like. I would appreciate your help with the language, thank you. I seldom see so many visitors who don't speak Harmonian... but you have caught it up rather quickly, I must say. He moves off to make the arrangements.

Starting her meal, she initiates her conversation with the half-elf. There is a short pause, but he answers. Some little while, yes, he returns in elven. Perhaps two months or so. I came to visit my... cousin, and found I preferred this place to home... And where did you come from, may I ask? Not many without elven blood speak Silvanesti... as well as you... Again she notes his way of speaking elven seems to have been stripped of it's melodic qualities

The bartender, who had already approached to take the warrior's order, winces a little when he yells. He stands out another pitcher of ale and two cups, along with a pitcher of cider, the exact moment the Kender finishes his remark about the drinks.

At Pyros' complement, Elsa holds out one corner of her dress and turns about once, giggling. Thanks! You don't look so grubby yourself after a good scrubbing, she laughs. Taking a sip of her wine, she looks around. what'd I miss?

"A few months? Forgive me but your clothing and your common are akin to legends, no offence but was Istar still standing when you left?" She asks as she eats, what was going on here? They were half Elven, but at most could be less than a hundred. It was an outlandish thought, but did the mist bring them?

"I have traveled from my homeland also, this place is nothing like home, but at least you are not at war. As for languages it is.. It's part of my job as a performer to know these things. I know the language of the little one out there, they are irrepressible creatures are they not?" Something was wrong, the way he spoke, perhaps it was due to her heading Harmonian so long..

"You chose to come here? Where did you reside before that? And how long has your cousin lived here?" Alarm bells were going off in her head, something just didn't seem right and that idea scared her all the way to the Abyss.

Ooc: Im using Tanis as a reference, Hickman and Weiss seemed to ignore the ages of Half elves from the Phb.

[OOC: yeah, I try to stick with the phb or complete elves on that stuff as well, although Silvanesti are about 25% ‘longer lived’ than high elves. Their half-elf offspring would have maybe an extra 20 yrs, so it still works.]

Istar… he almost whispered… You survived… you’re… from Krynn? He asked, incredulously. Shaking his head, the mask of calm returned. I was born in Sithicus to a Kartakan merchant woman… a human. My… cousin… took me in when she died. After I grew old enough, he left for Kartakass… that song you sang when I entered… she used to sing it to me. He stares at her eyes for a long moment. Our stories say that the world was destroyed… that Lord Soth had the chance to save Krynn from the kingpriest’s hubris… but that he did not try. For that he was doomed, and the elves nearby doomed with him when the world ended… are you saying it… survived?

At her remark about the Kender, he glanced perhaps unconsciously at the door. I speak the language of the ‘mad ones’ yes. In Sithicus there are a few, deep in the woods. They are some of the most violent and xenophobic peoples of the core. They hang the rotting bodies of trespassers at their borders as a… deterrent… I have met one who was not so, and traveled with him here. He behaved the way the elders say they used to… before… At any rate he left, just after arriving, still itching for a ‘place more interesting’. I stayed… the music reminds me of my mother.
