Re: Adventurers in Narmaren
[OOC: Thanks, I was going to ask polly cause i didn't think he had anything]
My name is Ruehar. And your name? He asks, a little amused. He digs out the ogre-whiskey/ale/whatever it is and offers the man a taste. So this man you know who might know Earnie... where might I find him?

"Porkins," replies Porkins, who reaches for the flask, crossbow forgotten.
He un-stoppers the flask and takes a lengthy pull on it, ending with a breathless cough.
"By Lathander sun-striped bum, that's rough!" He holds a hand up, "Rough, but good enough."
The herder wipes his mouth with his sleeve, adding, "So, you be looking for 'Piebald'. He do be knowing Earnie, I think. Used to trade Earnie rabbits for mushrooms. Unusual ones. That's the mushrooms. The rabbits were normal; just dead. So, yer said I can keep the flask, right?"
Assuming Porkins is allowed to keep the flask, which isn't actually worth a great deal, he continues, "Piebald be with 'is flock, o' course." He points to the south, "He'd likely be down by the river 'bout now. Tell 'im Porkins sent thee and that 'e's no need to thank me." He seems to find this amusing, but doesn't otherwise have much more conversation in him.

Certainly. That's for you. Thanks for the help, Porkins. I'll go see Piebald about it. Gathering up Polly (not physically lifting her of course), he heads off in the direction indicated to find Piebald.
Re: Adventurers in Narmaren
Porkins salutes with the flask, takes another pull on it and then puts it away.
Polly & Ruehar head south. After about half a mile they strike a river. It turns out to have several passing places.
There are a lot of sheet milling around, difficult to say how many exactly, but feels like hundreds, although probably only in the high tens.
More notable though is the absence of any herder, whether called Piebald or otherwise.
What will you do?

Also, Observation skill check, please.

Ruehar looks at Polly, That's odd... Let's stick close and see if we can find anything. Readying his bow, Ruehar investigates along the Riverside
Re: Adventurers in Narmaren
Polly says, "Sure thing. Upstream? Or downstream?"
======
Just in case, would you give me an Observation skill check.
The river flows, as you might expect, from NW to SE

Re: Adventurers in Narmaren
Ruehar shrugs, Downstream I guess. Any signs floating might hang up there... Bow ready, he pays special attention to any muddy areas or soft ground where tracks might stand out, and keeps a weather eye oit for potential ambush places.

Re: Adventurers in Narmaren
Ruehar slowly follows the river bank downstream towards the coast while Polly walks parallel maybe 100 yards or so further away from the river.
The pair reach the edge of the hills uneventfully and then spy the old but sturdy bridge where the coastal track passes over the river.
With a swapping of shrugged shoulders, it's clear that neither has seen anything worthy of further interest so they cross the bridge and then follow the other bank of the river inland.
After a good half, maybe three quarters of a mile they reach a confluence of two rivers, one from the WNW and the other from the SW.
The SW tributary is the narrower of the two but apparently deeper and faster flowing.
Without an obvious crossing point, and it being too wide for Polly to cross, the adventurers follow the southern bank towards the SW.
After perhaps three quarters of a mile, Ruehar pauses and points out to the far river bank, "Polly, there's something over there in the reeds." It looked a pallid, unnatural colour. "I saw it as something moved into the reeds on the bank. There is no obvious crossing place, but the river does bend out of sight as it twists to the S.

Re: Adventurers in Narmaren
Ruehar readies his bow and tries to get a closer look without going into the water.
Re: Adventurers in Narmaren
Bow at the ready, Ruehar gets as close as he can to the edge but can't see any more from this side of the river.

Re: Adventurers in Narmaren
[OOC: sorry for the delays. been trying to get Genwald up and running; plus the work stuff i mentioned.]
I really don't fancy trying to swim over there, but i'm not sure there is much other course...
[How far across and deep is the river here? Any indication of the size/nature of the thing moving? Were there any feasible somewhat shallow places to cross nearby?]

Polly suggests, "We could try upstream a bit?"
It looks to be maybe 3' deep, but experience tells you that it's therefore going to be about 4' deep.
======
It's ok, don't worry.
How's the FMEA?

[The FMEA thing is fine, just kind of a grind when building one from scratch. I've only been in the department s few months also. What time is it there?]
Good idea. He says to the halfling. He leads on at her suggestion, looking for any likely places to cross.

Re: Adventurers in Narmaren
The pair of adventurers travels about a mile upstream, shrubland giving way to grassy hills and thence to rocky hills.
Approaching the rocky hills = a roomin noise can be heard - a water fall. Its drop is modest, a mere 12' or so.
It looks like there may be a way to get behind the waterfall - easy for ashort being but harder for a taller {Medium size} one.
Alternatives are to climb the rocky hill face {medium difficulty}and continue unriver or to seek a detour to continue upriver.
Will RV try to cross here?
Or continue into the rocky hills?

I can't figure out how to crop the map in hexographer and still have it in a format that displays on this site.

Re: Adventurers in Narmaren
[OOC: So we are in the rocky hills hex with the "ledge" on the East side?]
Well, this might work... I think we can cross behind that waterfall, but we should probably be careful. Do you mind going first? I think it would be easier for someone petite like yourself.

Most of the time I save an image or take a screenshot, then crop the copy with a simple photo editor. You can change the file extension of the picture from the photo editor when you save it also.]
