Luka
Val If you hold onto a rope tied around my waist I will try to get to the skeleton.
Luka digs in his pack and pulls out rope. Ties it around his waist and starts down. Leaving pack at top.

"No problem, let me secure your rope to a piton so we get double support."
Val pulls out a piton and his hammer and hammers one into the ground, ties the rope around it and then holds on to the rope tight.

Getting to the skeleton is across difficult terrain.
It would be your choice of Athletics skill check or disadvantaged Acrobatics skill check.
The safety line might be a big help! It grants advantage on either of the above skill checks, so straight Acrobatics or advantaged Athletics skill check.
The safety line is a cool idea. I think that deserves a GM inspiration.

Can't remember if I've put this out there but:
GM Inspiration doesn't stack RAW so how do you feel about being able to spend one of them to gain 1d(your level) as Temporary Hit Points ?

Chris I like this an other of your ideas. I think it helps motivate and rewarding us for the none combat part of the game.
Yes Val has one GM inspiration.

If Vic can help in anyway he will.
Otherwise he will stand observing to make sure they are not ambushed.

He could send it down to pull up anything interesting from the skeleton.

Luka climbs carefully along the crevice. The skeleton is tantalisingly close. Just in reach with a stretch.
Luka studies the dead thing up close. His investigation shows that it's a medium size dead humanoid whose flesh and the majority of clothing and personal effects have either rotted to nothingness or dropped down into the unreachable depths of the crevice. Remaining are: the skeleton (less the left hand and forearm), a ring, leather armour and some fur trimmed boots.

Vic will cast mage hand and send it down.
"IT can bring up, up to 10 lbs, if you need."

Luka
Grabs the ring first and slips it on. Pulls the boots loose from the skeletal feet and tries to hand them off to the Mage Hand.
Here take these. Handing off the boots.
Then reaches back and grabs the neck opening of the leather armor. Running the end of the rope through the neck hole and ties it off. Dragging it back to the edge of the crevasse.
Pull me back up. I got the armor tied off.
