"You did well enough. You'll get better with practice, I'm sure," replies Cheff looking for something to clean his wicked looking morningstar. "These guys aren't going anywhere, so why don't you get your breath back?" He settles for cleaning his bludgeoning instrument on the bandits tattered shirt and then sits against the cave wall for a good 10 minutes.
After following suit, Ruehar has regained his breathe but still has muscle taigue (-Dex & -1 Str) but he feels keen to search the fallen.
Taking his time (light activity), he finds:
Bandit: ruined leathers, belt, two large belt pouches, metal flask (containing some liquid), a dagger and a nice-looking rapier.
The Ogre possesses nothing useful apart from a large piece of desert oak that he used as a club.
The pouches contain two fingers, possibly halfling, a bruised aple and some coins: 73gps and 97 sps.

A further exploration of the cave reveals only the pair of goats and pair of camels. One of the latter is prone to kicking. They all look underfed and unhealthy.
Cheff helps Ruehar hide the bodies at the back of the cave. It takes both of them a lot of heaving to drag the dead ogre.

Cheff says, "I'd appreciate it if you keep it to yourself that I can cast spells.

What next?
======
I've added the Fatigue rules to the Q&A thread.
When a character has enough xp for next level, he can go and train at a Kobar (local training school) for a Basic Block of Instruction (BBI). This costs 1500gp per (current) level before training, plus the cost of one training course run concurrently. If funds are lacking, then the character can declare "self-training" and will auto-level when the same number of xp have been gained, and the xp is reset to the minimum amount for next level.
For example, a Thief, level 3, starts at 2,501 xp. When he reaches 5,001xp (or more) he can go and study for his BBI at a Kobar. e.g. If he has 8,765 xp, he pays 1,500gps at a school and emerges as a level 4 thief with 8,764xp.
However, if he has insufficient money to pay for this, then he can declare "autotraining", and when his xp exceeds the minimum for level 4 (5,001xp) by the amount to be earned at level 3 (5,000-2,501=2,499xp), giving 5,001+2,499=7,500xp, then he autotrains (no school, no money) to level 4, emerging with 5,001xp.
BBIs can done retrospectively, i.e. after autotraining. BBIs have benefits beyond the basic class level up abilities.

Ruehar splits the coin evenly and lays the other loot out for divvying up. Once the pair agree and divide the loot, Ruehar will search the back for any secret or hidden passages.

[Ooc: how does loot-splitting work in hackmaster? Presumably Ruehar would know, but I don't really]

{Edit 26 Nov, 9.20am}

Cheff accepts the coins with a nod and puts them in his beltpouch. He looks Ruehar over and the nods again, this time more to himself.
"Ruehar, there is a delicate matter I would discuss with you. You know that I am dedicated to the freedom of slaves and that this must of necessity be in secret. In pursuit of this, I have accumulated significant debt."
The Noble taps his belt pouch, "This will pay off the least of my debts, some 34gps to Dremi." He nods again and then launches into what he has been putting off, "Half of everything that remains here is yours but I would ask you to donate everything that you do not directly need to my cause. In return, I can go some way to mending your wounds." He leaves it hanging, obviously uncomfortable.

It occurs the Ruehar that the only thing here that looked in good condition was the shiny rapier which was clearly not a weapon that Cheff as a cleric {OOC: Religion General check, pls, +75% bonus, success = He's a cleric of Thor} would want to use and the weapon merchant, Delton, would probably give a decent trade-in for it against the short sword he has on sale.

======
+8xp for the coinage.
Usually its split the cash/mundane stuff 'equally', with Sidekicks, Proteges, Henchmen & Hanger's-On getting a half to quarter share. Magical stuff is usually done on rotating choice with a nominated party member keeping records. e.g. a Dibs list.
There is actually a Dibs protocol on HM, part of the parody I think, and a "Dibs skill" too which gives a bonus to it, in one of the PHB appendices.

[Ooc: thanks, i seem to recall reasing something about 'dibs' and wondering if/how that works with npcs. sorry for the delays]

What spells? I didn't see any spells... the elf says, implying that Cheff's secret is safe. I regret that I too have many debts, from my training and other things. Still, it would not be prudent to return to town bearing unexplained injuries; and I agree with your cause... at least as far as it pertains to illegal enslavement... which I must admit is the only kind I have seen in this region as yet... Ruehar gives cheff 20 gold as a donation, then begins to examine the rapier and dagger. Once we know what these are worth we can get a decent price for them, hopefully that will go a ways to canceling each of our monetary obligations. Once he has appraised the weapons and been (presumably) healed, he will search the cave for any secret passages (staying out of range of Camel-kicks-a-lot).

====
RK001 religion check [1d100] = 10:
Base 50% +75=> 125%
Over 95% is auto-fail, right?

RK001 appraisal check [1d100] = 20
Base 40%.

So my half of the coin was 36.5 gp and 48.5 sp. And he still owes Bruce 35 gp or so for the heal-up a week ago...

Searching: 6th sense, astute observation, keen sight,
feel free to make any rolls you need from me

Ruehar recalls seeing daggers on sale for about 1 to 2 gps.
He assesses the Rapier as worth about 20 to 15 gp new.
If sold, they'd fetch about half that, probably somewhat more, maybe 1 to 1.5gp and 10 to 15gp, if done as a trade with someone like Delton though.

Cheff smiles and simply accepts the 20gp {RK gains +20xp} and says, "Thanks. Although it'll take more than 10 times that to pay off my next smallest debt. Anyway, I can see you like the look of the rapier. Tell you what, you have the rapier and I'll have the manky livestock and I'll see what I can get for it. What do you think?"
Ruehar is left with 17gps and 44sps.

Ruehar searches round the cave {light activity, so Dex & Str loss regained} for a while and finds nothing else.

Cheff suggests, "Going forwards, anything we do together, we split any 'gains' evenly? I'll do what I can to patch you up. And you donate whatever you feel you can afford? Now, hold still." The cleric casts a spell on Ruehar. {+14HP regained}

======
On the deal offered it's actually about evens* in value as the rapier is above average quality. (*with everything +/- 25% depending on how bartering turns out)

Ruehar laughs good-naturedly, Fair enough. Any extra coin you'd get from the livestock would be worth it to me for not getting kicked. He agrees to the future split and thanks Cheff for the heal, and after searching about says, I don't see any hidden paths or anything in here. Do you think thid could be used as a stable for illegal slavery, or just banditry? Ruehar looks about for anything

====
20 xp +8 xp = 28 xp.
Mind if I hold it over a bit? seems odd to multiply and split such a small amount.

was the 20 gold a 'fair' donation? I can't really tell...

Added heal, weps and coin to sheet

"My guess is they're a pair of loners. No shackles or rope or keys," replies Cheff with a shrug. "Just prey off the unsuspecting and defenseless. Well, by Thor's Mighty Hammer, they won't be doing that again!"
He smirks, obviously satisfied at having vanquished what he considers evil.

"Is there more here you want to do? Or shall we go back to town. it's probably well past mid-morning by now," the cleric suggests.

======
Whatever Ruehar thinks is fair, makes it fair. :)
And I did give xp for it, albeit a small amount. Technically it's classed as RP bonus xp. Seemed reasonable.
Hold it over is fine.
You're book-keeping the Temp Hon too, yes? That only gets updated into Actual Honour at the end of a session, which at the moment I leaning towards being 15 pages or so.. or the nearest natural break thereafter.
But that's not to say if he donated 10,000gp (in your dreams!) that he's automatically get 10,000 xp.

Ruehar nods agreement and gathers up the things as they prepare, then the pair return to town as he keeps an eye out for any hazards.

Cheff spends a while checking out the livestock.
The adventuring pair then return to town uneventfully and Cheff excuses himself explaining that he has to make arrangements for the camels and goats, ending with "Be ready to leave tomorrow at sunrise, yes?"

It's now late morning (maybe 11 o'clock).

What next?

=====
Temp Hon is added up, divided by 4, truncated and added to Actual (Current) Honour at the end of a Gaming Sesion.

Solicited from various sides with offers of oysters and dried seaweed, sparking necklaces and earthenware pots, Ruehar makes his way back to Delton.
The arms merchant greets him with an electric smile, "Hello young adventurer! Thought again about my unforgettable mechanism? And Delton is a man of his word, you still get the discount we discussed, but did you want the top of the line Battlefield-Blessed shortsword, yours for a mere 233 herons? Or the more economic option, a trifling 78 herons?"

When Ruehar displays the rapier and dagger, Delton says, "Hmm not bad. The rapier is a good build, but not so much call for them here; mostly a noble's weapon. The dagger is more run of the mill though. Offer you 16 herons for the pair."

The elf fails to make any progress with his apprentice bartering skills, but does manage to cause the merchant to break into a friendly smile {+2 Cha reaction modifier => 'Friendly'}
"Tell you what, you give me the rapier and dagger and you can have the top-of-the-line sword for 200 herons. Sound good? Bu if that's too rich for you, then you can have the lesser one, same deal, but a mere 45 herons."

If Ruehar still looks dubious, the Delton adds, "tell you what, as I like you, and I enjoy a good game and business is slow, so I'll play a game of spot the pea with you. Best of three wins. If I win, I keep the rapier and dagger. If you win, I'll reduce the cost to you by another 35 herons. Final offer!" He has a rummage in his tent and comes back with a tray, three inverted cups and a dried pea.

What next?

======
Spot The Pea would be an opposed Gaming skill check with the higher successful roll winning.
Acute Alertness gives +5% bonus to the skill. Astute Observation gives +20% bonus to the skill level. Keen sight gives +10% bonus to the skill level. GH applies to the roll.

Ruehar grins ruefully at the trader's insistence, Very well, a few rounds of 'spot the pea' sound a lark. The rapier and dagger and 10 herons in wager versus the lesser blade. Best of three. Ruehar shakes the man's hand before they begin.

=====
[ooc: he will keep an eye out for any 'cheating' as well.
Gaming 46 +10 (Acute Alert) +20 (Observation) +10 (Keen Sight) = 86%

Is GH 5% (I.e. 1/20) or 1% when it comes to skill checks and other d100s?

RK001 spot-pea gaming [1d100] = 43[1d100] = 17[1d100] = 97 pass, pass, fail
Feel free to rearrange the order of those rolls to build suspense if you like ;)

Delton smiles as he shakes the elf's hand, a gleam in his eye, almost as if to say 'there's one born every minute', "Agreed."

"And winner buys drinks, yes?" suggests the merchant as he lifts each of the 3 cups to show there's nothing underneath them and then slowly places the pea under the middle up.
With an unlikely turn of speed Delton slides the cups around and around each other with both hands, swapping their positions and performing figure-of-eights and more complicated maneuvers talking all the while to his mark.

After a full 30 seconds the cups are lined up in a straight row again. "So, can you spot the black-eyed pea?" asks the man.
The elf taps the middle one and Delton's left hand reaches for the middle cup, hovering over it for a full 5 or 10 seconds, building the tension.

...No pea. Delton replaces the cup with a winning smile and lifts up the outer cups to reveal the pea on the left. "One to me, he says. Better luck next time!

Again the cups are shuffled with dizzying speed, the merchant clearly enjoying himself and going faster than before. In his haste, he causes the pea to hit the left-most cup which Ruehar's keen haring picks up and therefore selects. Delton again pauses for several seconds. And then lifts the LH cup to show?
... the pea! "Well done," says Delton, almost meaning it. "The decider. Are you ready?"

"Round and around and around they go, and where they'll stop, no one knows," the now-serious man commentates, trying so hard to win that he shoots one of the cups beyond the edge of the tray casuing the pea to drop onto the floor. "Oh, never done that before," lies Delton. "Voided. We play again."

He sets up and translates the cups around and around.

Extra Gaming check, please.

======
GH is +/- 1 to all die rolls. So d100: 43 could count as 42, 43 or 44.
Delton:
TN ≤77. d100: 69+5(Opportunist)=74 Success
TN ≤77. d100: 83-5(Opportunist)=78 Fail
TN ≤77. d100: 98-5(Opportunist)=93, but natural >95 is an automatic fumble.

Ruehar watches keenly to make sure there is no slight of hand going on...

=====
Gaming 46 +10 (Acute Alert) +20 (Observation) +10 (Keen Sight) = 86%

RK001 extra gaming roll [1d100] = 80 -1 GH = 79% pass

Out of curiosity, how did Ruehar lose the contest in the first one? or was that from re-ordering the rolls?
If both gamers pass, does it go by who passed by the widest margin?

Delton's concentration is visible in the trickle of unnoticed sweat as he zooms the cups round and round for almost twice as long as before.

He looks up at Ruehar confidently as he takes his hands away from the cups. The elf chooses the RH cup and lifts it up.

======

The result of two successful checks is resolved by the higher modified roll. In the event of a tied roll, the higher modified skill level takes it.
Unless either player gets a critical success, which is <1/10th of the modified skill level.
(It can be done the other way, ut can be more confusing for some players. The way described is adapted from the Runequest system.)
Extra Gaming roll TN 67
+5 (Opportunist) = 72

And just to keep the suspense going a little longer, here's the outcome IG:

======

Ruehar sees the pea. He's won!
Delton forces a smile and offers his hand, "Ok, 10gps andthe rapier and you get the lesser Battle-Blessed blade."
He breaks into a real smile - life is tooo short - "Do you want that gift-wrapped?"

What next?

{+80xp for the RPing. No Hon, but avoids Hon loss by not losing the contest.}
