Grubnick nods, Why don't we grab a seat to wait. he says, selecting an empty spot near the door and not too close to Haahque so they aren't barging into his discussion.

Arulia nods and takes a chair next to Gobax. Though she intends to follow his suggestion and leave Haahqae to finish his business in private, her eyes wander over to watch him talk with his companions. With a scowl, she shakes her head and turns away to speak to Gobax. "Where do you suppose Ismene is?" she asks.

"God of freedom you say, so are we free NOT to pledge our loyalty?" Tulbas asks in a light mood. "Where are they waiting?" he asks and let her takes several steps ahead leading them. He then whispers to Selowen, 'We need to act. If we join her we will face superior mages, and if we won't she will tell about us. Try the sleep and if we will have no choice I'll use the magic missiles wand.'

Haahqae (Masked Dragon Inn, Common room)
"Perhaps we should retire to my room then," Miriam suggests. "We can speak privately there, but if the army is spying on me and sees me speaking with you two, they may well consider you targets, as well," she warns. Indeed, the kapak seems to be glancing to their table several times, taking note of both Haahqae and Jaymes.

Kendra Greylock (Marketsquare)
The butler offers her his elbow and guides her to the edge of the float. A little wooden staircase on wheels is brought before the float, allowing them to descend easily. The staircase is then wheeled over to the stage, allowing them to ascend it. Kendra stands before hundreds of soldiers and citizens, the latter including children and elderly. There are roaring cheers as they see her take the stage.

Tulbas Erogund (Tower of Wayreth, Unknown Floor on AT 15)
Jinali rolls her eyes at Tulbas' pun. "They are upstairs, a few floors up. Just stay close to me, and you should be fine."

Selowen nods and starts chanting her spell. Hearing her, Jinali quickly spins on her heel to face them and starts chanting her own spell, as well. The qualinest is faster, though, and throws a handful of sand into the air as she finishes the spell. Jinali tries to resist, but fails. She mutters something about traitors before hitting the ground.

Still injured, Selowen grunts and drops to her knees, the casting of the spell draining her considerably.

=========

Initiative
Selowen (1d10+1): 6+1 = 7
Jinali (1d10+3): 7+3 = 10

Selowen casts Sleep, centered on Jinali, affecting (2d4): 3,4 = 7 HD worth of enemies. Jinali resists [TN 30%] (1d100): 69, fail. Jinali falls asleep.

Arulia and Gobax (Masked Dragon Inn, Common room)
As they sit and talk, they hear the city bells outside tolling to signal it is now Fifth Watch.

Ne-Chanz and Shima (Central Haven Sewers)
Shima sticks to the shadows and peeks around the corner to find...quite a few large rats. At least seven, in fact. The first five are standard giant rats, like he and Ne-Chanz have faced before. The last two are different, though. They are slightly larger and have six legs and very large teeth. Fortunately, they have noticed the dwarf yet.

To the southeast of the room is a steel door with no visible padlock on it. Directly south, it looks like the tunnel turns westward.

==============

Shima attempts to hide in shadows [TN 70%] (1d100): 58, pass.

Shima tries to backstab rat #1 and then peg it back to Ne-Chanz, whilst calling, "Ne-Chanz, 6 large rats, incoming."

Grubnick shrugs, I'm not sure. maybe she is upstairs or on an errand. If Haahque is here he'll likely know. I don't know which room she is staying in, he went up to get her and I doubt the employees would just tell us that.

One more of those things. This surely can’t be sustainable. If the army considers everyone a target if they talk to someone who lived with someone who didn’t commit a crime, then pretty soon the army’s going to have to consider everyone a target, because Haahqae intends to talk to a whole lot of people, and if they all become targets too, the army surely can’t keep up.

“I think that would be a good idea. But first we should probably figure out why those two are here. When last I checked neither of them live at this inn, so perhaps they’re here to meet you or Ismene.”

Strange activity surely, but the more people Myriam talks to, the harder it will be on the army to keep track of them all, and perhaps it will figure out that such activities are worse than folly.

Haahqae will get up and walk over to the newcomers.

“Good day.”

Once again, that doesn’t mean today is good. Honestly, it’s been outright rotten all day. It’s just a greeting used up here where the big folk live.

Arulia nods almost imperceptibly in greeting, but her frown makes it clear that she's as happy to see Haahqae as he is to see her, judging by his curt greeting. Seeing no reason to go into any pleasantries, she gets directly to business. "Do you want to find Yvette and Xyleena, and maybe get our money back from them?" she asks in a frosty tone. "I'm to meet with them tonight."

The goblin nods in greeting, Morning. Once Arulia has said her piece he adds, And miss Ismene would be welcome as well since she was involved too.

Haahqae barely waits for Arulia to finish talking before he starts rattling off his reply at his usual rapid pace.

“Yes of course I want to find them. I’ve been searching for them for weeks, those villains went a long way to turn a good deed into a disaster for everyone! Why had I not heard of this earlier? Why would they be meeting with someone they stole from? Unless… You’re not affiliated with them are you? That would…”

Until Gobax’s comment hits him like a trebuchet. Haahqae goes silent. He opens his mouth but finds no words come out for a while, until he manages to squeak out:

“Unfortunately, Ismene can’t come.”

Glancing to Arulia, he turns back to the Gnome, the abrupt halt and prominent pause not lost on him. Has something happened? he asks quietly and with genuine concern.

“Yes!” Haahqae does his best to control his impulsive response. Bringing the tone of his voice back down as best he can.

“Yes, something did happen. Ismene’s apparently been arrested with little to no explanation as to why, and she appears to have disappeared.”

“She’s been gone a week now. I’m worried sick about her, but I don’t know what I could possibly do.” Haahqae is not the sort to cry, and he does his best to hold back tears, but it’s getting harder the more he thinks about it. Why is life so cruel?

With a bit of a sniff, Haahqae asks “When is this meeting?”

Seeing Haahqae's face fall at the mention of Ismene, Arulia bites back an angry reply. "Perhaps this fool cares about something other than himself after all."

Unable to keep all of the scorn out of her voice, Arulia sniffs, "I haven't told you about the meeting before because I didn't arrange it until last night. And I am not affiliated with them. If I were, why would I tell you?"

Grubnick tries to divert any more snap replies by focusing on the Gnomes comment, you said they arrested her do you have any leads as to why they might have done that? Didn't the girl realize that antagonizing him was not the way to get Haahque to help? perhaps she was younger than he had thought... how old did half-elves get anyway? Or maybe she did realize that and was trying to get him to refuse...
