There's a "Whap! Whap" noise in the main cavern and then a huge number of tiny bats explode into the area. Vic can't see the to the ends of his hands; any naked lights are extinguished. He's buffeted by the sheer numbers of the tiny fliers. [If Vic beats the bats' Init 19 OR ih he succeeds on an Easy Dexterity saving throw he takes no damage; otherwise Vic: 1HP damage, crush] he hears Daphne's terrified scream.

No problem. Vic will shield Daphne automatically, but Vic needs to make a moderate DEX saving throw for normal damage. (Failure means Vic takes double damage but on DC20 avoids any damage.)Nocturno wrote:He will try to cover/shield her as best he can.

Assuming Unbar heard Daphne's terrified scream, turns and runs back to the main cavern pulling out his warhammer on the run.
(Dashing if action economy is in play due to initiative being called for bats and Vic.)

Val dashes towards the main caver, soon leaving the robust but more vertically challenged dwarf way behind. The mountain man hears a "Thwop! Thwop!" noise before he reaches the small ravine and sees the seething clouds of bats.
Like the black pseudopod some of a giant amoeba many dozens of tiny bats swarm and swirl around Val, extingishing an torch and battering against him. [Val: 1HP crush] He barely mkes out a bolt of flame shoot across eastwards across the cavern. It almost seems to stir the bats to greater effort to batter themselves and all around into
submisson.
Unbar is still chugging along to try and catch up.
What next?

Under pressure frm the bats, no matter how minor the distraction, Val wl need to make (his choice of) an easy Athletics or Acrobatics skill check to jump over the ravine.
If Val jumps across, please also give me a 1d6 roll and a Dexterity saving throw.

Daphne, laying down next to Vic, seems to have found a perfect spot to shelter and isn't battered at all by the bats. She keeps one hand over her head, and her mouth buried in the crook of her other elbow. She emits the faisntest of sounds, "Eep!"

Val hops easily over the ravine, barely acknowledging its existence.
Bats thump agasint the mountain man's granite chest but cause him no real inconvenience.
With any torches extinguished, what will Val do next?

Val steps forwards into the cavern proper, shining his lantern to roughly where he left Vic and Daphne, but there's no sign of them. As he does so, the bats seem to get agitated, almost to the point of berserkness. Some of them land on the lantern, a whiff of scorched flesh, and then off into the maelstrom. He's pelted repeatedly by the tiny creasures.
