CH. 15: There and Back Again

Naras held out her hands, offering to make the Gonto circle with Leena. "Nothing to forgive, Leena. It's forgotten. With customers, if I'm not there, talk as you normally would. If it relates to costs, by all mean precede with 'I think'. My apology stands. Please accept it. And tell me what was going on in your head when I dismissed you in such an abrupt manner. I need to make this right with you. And I can only do that if I truly understand. Please.”

Jocelyn finds Ouragana at her bunk, her backpack fully charged, ready to leave. Hearing Jocleyn, Ouragana turns slowly around, her arms crossed. "Sorry for what, exactly?" she asks in a hoarse voice.

"Making you feel like crap," Jocelyn says. "And pointing out mistakes or possible mistakes that you've made," she adds. "It wasn't my intention to do that."

Gallath sighs. He would have happily waited, but other races are not nearly as patient as the long-lived elves. "Apologies" he says to the captain. "This dinner has been spoiled. The food is truly lovely, though."

Sierra sighs and sets her cutlery down. "Yeah, this will probably be the last one we hold," she says.

"Well, at least the food was good," Terra comments, polishing off her wine.

"What was going through my head?" Leena asks, dutifully making the circle of Gonto with Naras. "You gave me an order, and I obeyed it. I do not recall the exact thoughts I was having at that moment. I suppose I was thinking about what to do next. Ultimately I decided to come and supervise the building crew. Lowborn often laze about if not watched carefully."

"OK, I'll try a different way - What negative feelings have I caused or promoted in you today?" Naras persevered, feeling she was chasing a leaf in the breeze.
She added, "If nothing, then ok, fine. In which case would mind you helping me to try to fix things with Otoya?"

Ouragana looks at Jocelyn. "I know I've made mistakes. but being shouted at doesn't make it easier to do better." She sits down on her bunk, pointing at her packed things.
"My plan was to leave the ship, take a room at the Paragon Inn, and wait for a passage to Mond, hoping someone there could lift the curse. Then I wanted to come back here, and study the Arakocra. learn their language, their culture. You know I am crap at battle. I hoped to become good at gathering knowledge."

"Oura," Jocelyn says. She lets out another sigh. She pauses for a few moments as if trying to gather her thoughts. "I'm going through some stuff, all of which is jumbled up in my head," she explains. "And the frustration of dealing with all of that, I took out on you. I'm sorry for shouting at you," she says. She takes a moment to run her hand through her hair before she continues. "There is more to you than your magic, though," she adds. "You are a pacifist by nature, and I kind of need to learn how to be that way. I need you to stay so that I can learn from you."

"I am sorry to hear that, you two always present great food and lively conversation. I am sorry about the girls, must be deep feelings, or maybe just their moon time." She refills her glass and leans back.

"So how long do you think it will take to hunt down these pirates?"

Ouragna gives a small little laugh, and looks rather incredulous. "You say I'm a pacifist, and so you hope I make peace with you?" she asks. But her shoulders relax, and she sighs. "Alright, I'll stay" she adds "For now."

Gallath shrugs. "Yes, the company is delightful."

Baeros waves his hand dismissively, "Women! Besides she didn't say she doesn't want to tell the story, she just said it would be boring. At least all this drama was not boring at all." he says smiling but his smile quickly changes to concern. "But I hope she will come around. It seems she got really hurt. Jocelyn will find a way to fix it."

"No idea," Sierra says to Val. "We have no idea where they are now. We can try asking around in Deimos, but otherwise we'll push on to Draska and ask around there. These pirates are looking for the pastor, though, right? So if we put out the word that she's in Draskan waters and on our ship, they may well find us instead."

"Otaya? What did she do now?" asks Leena. She places her hands on her hips and emits an annoyed huff. "This isn't about that soup kitchen idea of hers again, is it? I've told her many times there is no profit in it."

Naras shakes her head, "No, although that is interesting in itself. She thought that I wanted to rip off Agnas. Or rather her grandaughter, Deanna. But I was tying to make her see the legal position within which we have to operate. I then wanted to find out if Deanna needed a sack of cash now or an income. Any ideas? But she ran off before we could get to that. And what's the best way to get through to her? "

"Thank you," Jocelyn says. "And we will go to the temple tomorrow to get your curse removed. Um, get some rest," she says before she turns and leaves. She needs to get some rest herself, and then memorize a prayer for removing the curse.
