I'm going on vacation from 19.06-26.06 so there is a good chance I won't be able to post during this time.
You can play my character as NPC if you like.
Flatbelly will be curious toward any new knowledge/technology. If he will be asked he will offer council to help the refugees but not in all costs. If a terror organization rises he will council to cut the head ASAP (it doesn't have to be killing but putting them to justice and give the people under the leadership an alternative).

But I really want to try and make these first magic items you get mean something, or at least be something you will like using for awhile.

No problem. As for magic items, for me there is no problem stating without and hopefully find/buy them during the adventures ahead.
