For no particular reason other than sheer excitement, guys, I thought I'd post some pictures I came across from "The (Return to) the Tomb of Horrors." I found them online by accident. I think a few might be good illustrations for a Demiplane of Dread adventure.

It don't make no difference, I think, not in that place. The most amazing part about the re-hash of that module I read is, there seems to be almost no rewards. I mean, there's hardly anything to be gained in there, it's just about death in every shape.

All this talk about horror seems a good segue...

Several, if not all, of you have probably noticed Fear, Horror and Madness checks listed with your saving throws on your character sheets. These are seldom used, but important to include for Ravenloft campaigns.

I don’t like to force fear checks, I feel it takes away from the player’s control of the character too much. To that end I almost never require them. As long as a player is faithful to their character’s personality or gives some reasoning for a departure, they will be avoided.

Horror checks are similar, and there are only a few instances that would require them like wading through a pool of writhing zombie arms or something like that. Some things in this campaign will require a response of horror, but I will mention it in those posts. Well role-played horror may avoid the check altogether. If a check is made, you can usually decide whether or not you want to choose a specific result from the table or roll for it (if you are not sure how your character would react). Any rolled or chosen result should be role-played out as well.

Madness checks may be required and cannot be avoided by role-play. The things that would cause these are very few and far between. Once the result of a failed check is chosen or rolled, it should be role-played out.

I have added guidelines and mechanical details to the Rules thread.

It's detailed in the rules forum, but basically this:
Fear is a direct threat to life and safety
Horror is more for revulsion and may not be a direct threat (unexpectedly falling 20' onto a pile of rotting corpses and taking no damage but feeling the bodies squish under you and splatter your face with ichor... for example)

I think temnix' post for my above response is gone. I'm not sure if I accidentally edited it rather than replying, or if he took it down... he asked the difference between fear and horror checks...

Lmao! She's been on her own a while, she's not sure she isn't seeing what she wants to see... Hell she was taken by some mists to this place. She's going to check them from a distance for a little while.
