Haahqae (Old Fort)
Miracle has trouble following Haahqae's logic. 'They seemed more like guest rooms than cells, though. I suppose we could have gone inside when the butler opened the door...'

Slipping into the old fort again is easy enough while invisible. And Haahqae already knows the layout of the tower. The first floor is for administration. The bureaucrats and clerks work here. The second floor are the offices for the commanders. The third floor is the mess hall. Floors four through eight are barracks for the soldiers. Floor nine is the armory. Floor ten contains the vault. According to Miriam, the soldiers insist that Ismene is not being held here, and that there was no record of her arrest. They said the same thing about Gregeddin and the Trade Guild, as well.

Tulbas Erogund (Tower of Wayreth, Unknown Floor on AT 15)
At long last, and with only a minute before both the chill touch and spectral hand spells ended, Tulbas manages to take Jinali down. She drops to the ground, unmoving, with barely more than a sigh.

Initiative
Tulbas (1d10+3): 5+3 = 8
Jinali (1d10+3): 6+3 = 9

Round 14!

Tulbas attempts to touch Jinali with his spectral hand (+2 hit) while she is protected (-2 hit) [TN 9] (1d20+2): 9+2 = 11, touch.
----Jinali saves vs. spell [TN 12] (1d20): 2, fail. She takes (1d4): 2 damage. Jinali falls.
Jinali is down.

(OOC: End combat.)

'Finally' Tulbas thinks to himself and immediately goes to see how is Selowen. If there is need he will attend to her wounds (new wounds) and see if she can gain consciousness.

===============================================================
(OOC: Does any of the items he found of the different mages hints for healing powers? By symbols or other marks? Did he feel anything about the powers of the jewelry that Magnus wore? Now that he has them on?
About Jinali, how does knockout rules works? If he doesn't attend to her she will die after 10 rounds? If he does attend to her, does it mean she will wake up immediately? If possible Tulbas will spare her life but only if he knows she won't wake up for few hours...)

Kendra Synclair (Prefect's Mansion)
"Do you? Today is the first time you've visited him in a month," Tethys points out. "I thought perhaps you had put him out of your mind. Does he really mean so much to you? You seem happier without him."

Tulbas Erogund (Tower of Wayreth, Unknown Floor on AT 15)
Tulbas moves to check on Selowen, but she suddenly vanishes into thin air before he can reach her. Jinali does likewise, as do all of the bodies in the room. Then the entire room vanishes, as well. Tulbas is left standing in total darkness. It only lasts a few seconds, and then he finds himself in another room.

He is standing in some kind of office. Before him is a curved desk, and sitting behind it are the three heads of the Conclave--Par-Salin, Justarius and Ladonna. Standing next to Tulbas is Magnus, quite alive and well, but looking fairly annoyed.

"What do you think?" asks Justarius, crossing his arms and looking to his companions.

"He has a lot of hate and rage in his heart. That cannot be denied," Ladonna observes. "But there's a recklessness to him, too. He could be a danger to himself and the Orders if it is not tempered."

Par-Salin nods. "Agreed. He's young and lacks discipline. I'm surprised, considering his teacher. I thought you would have been more strict, Magnus."

Magnus snorts. "The boy has some talent, but thinks himself smarter than his superiors. He believes his intelligence trumps experience and wisdom. This makes him difficult to teach."

"Will that be a problem?" wonders Ladonna. "If he's too big of a risk of going renegade, it might be best to just fail him now and be done with it."

"If we do pass him, there's also the matter of which Order to place him in," Justarius adds. "He's sort of...all over the place. He seemed to want to protect the girl and even refused to kill his opponent, and yet he brutally murdered his own mentor in cold blood. And in the very walls of the Tower, at that! Breaking one of our most sacred laws." He shakes his head. "Even if it was only a simulation, it does not look good."

"Let's see what the boy says then," Par-Salin suggests, looking pointedly at Tulbas. "Do you have anything to say about any of this?"

(OOC: Moot now, but I'll answer your questions anyway for future reference.

1. Healing magic is divine, not arcane. And divine magic only just returned to Krynn very recently. So there is nothing in the Tower at all that could magically heal.
2. He didn't 'feel' any different wearing Magnus' items, but they were all fake anyway.
3. If this had been real, then yes, Jinali would have died when she reached -10 HP unless she was stabilized first. No, she would not have awakened immediately unless he had used a healing spell on her, which would have been impossible.)

I really don't know of any, i was hoping you might since you said you were somewhat familiar with the sewers. You have a good point about weapons, though. If we could find something close to the high hand, maybe we could sneak our own down without crossing any checkpoints by passing through yards and lots... Are you really still planning to do that job now that she's looking for someone else to hire? Wait, if it was dangerous... do you still have a pass from the Belzorite job to carry weapons?! he asks the last more quietly.

Tulbas looks at the Mages un-surprised. He had suspected it was the trial itself. Indeed, at some stage he sank into it and lost his temper when he had the chance to kill Magnus.

He looks at Magnus calmly and slightly bow his head, 'Well, it appears I still have some work to do...' he thinks to himself.
He then bow his head in respect to the other leaders of the orders.
"Mind you, I've broken no rule. It was all simulation and so were my actions. Magic was given to the world for many reasons. To aid people, to add sophistication to otherwise banal life, to explore new worlds, to preserve our and other worlds.
In this simulation all was going south. This simulation has a lot of truth in it. This scenario could be easily happen. And so my action must have been as real as possible to show my true self and how I would act in real life. We, the apprentices, were a mere obstacle in the rebellion that was simulated here. In my view, I had to do all that is possible to preserve the real essence of the world. The people souls and the tower knowledge.
I was tempted to run upstairs and fight the rebellion. I do believe the orders and the laws of the orders proved themselves for thousands of years. I respect them and the order they impose. But running upstairs fighting all, that would be careless. That would be irresponsible to others. I did all that was possible to save Selowen, I also tried to save the other apprentices and at every step I tried to be as calculated as possible and see that they will survive. With the second apprentice it seems I either miscalculated physics or that I was bound to fail by the simulation maybe to be more humble or insert some humility to my heart, and indeed that worked as I was much more careful in later steps. When I saw Magnus dying... well... it seemed so easy... and with all the other bodies around it was either the end of the orders and since Magnus as you probably know murdered my uncle Raetmal when he was helpless, there would be no law to prevent him from killing me, or that it was all simulation and I saw the opportunity to unload my anger."
Tulbas looks up at Magnus and says, "I thought you would appreciate the logic lead to the action, Master." Tulbas says honestly.
"About the order I can fit to, I understand what makes you feel I'm all around. Indeed it is a confusing time for me. The occupation and the lost of my uncle contributed much to it. But I see myself as a calculated person and this confusion only temporal. I would prefer an ideal world were love between people would flourish, but life have taught me that there is also cruelty and betrayal in the world and so I think my actions are lead by self preservation and if possible helping to others while at it.
In any case I'm not sure why you feel I'm reckless, since logic is a beacon to my actions and I didn't know I'm difficult to teach since I'm always thirsty to knowledge and learning, as the training with my Menor for The Test could witness, but your wisdom and experience is by far superior to mine and therefore I'll accept your judgement humbly."

Tulbas says respectfully and waits for the final judgement.

======================================================================
(OOC: To be honest, Tulbas never really risked himself for others. He tries to help when he can but not on account of his own life. He were not in the position of having either his or her life and I'm not sure how would I've role played it. I think in his current state he is between Red robes and Black robes. BTW, all my childhood I argued with people that Raistlin was a good person :) So black robed can be good people too
On the other hand he stretch it to the edge. He didn't abandoned Selowen only to save himself.
I was indeed surprised by calling Tulbas reckless and by Magnus speech. I thought Tulbas was obedient and a good student and as careful as the situation allowed. I assume for each action you can argue as reckless I can give a different perspective explanation and the other way around, so it's a tough call.)

Once he's inside the keep, he thinks over his plan a bit. 10 stories and he knows what's on each of them... but where could Ismene be held? The soldiers don't know about her, so she's not on one of the floors they usually frequent. They're guarding her with anti-illusion stuff somehow, so they would have noticed something off if she was held near them. But where is left in the tower that's secure? Only the 10th floor, and could she be there? Yes, but also no. The prefect wants his money back, right? So he would be interrogating her. Sure it's a huge overreaction to losing a pittance compared with what he has; but he's got a pretty consistent record of overrating to all the wrong things. Why else would he have even arrested her? Much less in secret? If Ismene is being interrogated; keeping her at the top of a giant 10-story keep where it's difficult for him to get in or for her to get out without raising suspicion would not be where he wants to keep her... instead he would keep her much closer to where he's living; right? There's some holes in that logic, but it's better then half the logic Haahqae's tried to use earlier.

Yes, I suppose we might have been able to slip in when the butler opened the door, but then how would we have gotten out again? I know they're using defenses against being invisible and going in there with no way out seems dangerous, even for my standards. I need better plans; but I can barely think anymore. Like take this keep for example. This is one of three places in the city that's possibly secure enough to hold a mildly powerful illusionist like Ismene, but when one thinks about the layout of the tower and where everything is; one can deturmine that holding her here would be a huge inconvenience to the captor; and that it's quite unlikely that she's being held here. Yet I still came here because she could have been held here and I'm lost and confused. I should just go back to the market square and watch her die and probably kill myself after because I'm a total wreak these days. I've lost my charm where I used to be able to do anything, and now I can do nothing, and if I can't do anything, what can I do?

Haahqae (Old Fort)
'I am not certain,' Miracle replies. 'I do know that if you die, I will die, too. The magical bond that connects us would be severed. I cannot stop you if you try to kill yourself, but I am only just now starting to understand the greater world around me. I am not ready to die yet.'

Kendra Synclair (Prefect's Mansion)
"His livelihood, you say?" asks Tethys. "Is that all that really matters to you then? And here I thought I paid you pretty well."

Tulbas Erogund (Tower of Wayreth, Unknown Floor on AT 15)
"What happens during the Test is reflective of what would happen in reality," Justarius states. "The simulation is created by diving into your mind and pulling out images, ideas and memories. What happened in the Test may not have been real, but it was a reflection of what's in your heart."

"And what we have seen shows us that your heart is a blazing inferno, out of control and dangerous," Ladonna adds.

Par-Salin nods. "And yet, if that fire can be tamed, tempered and channeled...he could prove a valuable asset to the Art."

"Yes, if," Ladonna says. Looking directly at Tulbas, she says, "Your heart and soul lies bared to us. You cannot lie, so do not try. Speak to me truly, child. Why are you here? You seek to grow in the Art, become more powerful in magic, yes? But why? What is magic to you? Why do you seek to increase your power in it?"

Gobax and Shima (Outside the Grinning Goat Tavern)
(OOC: Weapon permits are acquired from either the army or the church. Permanent ones can be obtained either by joining up (as a soldier for the former or an agent for the latter). Temporary ones can also be acquired if you're hired by either for minor jobs or you can pay 100 STP for one. As for the weapon permit used on the Belzorite job, it was Gregeddin that had it. I think it eventually ended up in Tulbas' hands, although it has since expired.)

Kendra looks up to Tethys, and shakes her head. "You do pay me extremely well, and I am grateful for that," she says. "But he owns his own business, but if I lose his business and he is let out, he won't have anywhere to go," she points out. "I might not feel love, but he is still my husband and there is a responsibility. I'm not sure it is something that is understandable."

Hmm, well that certainly complicates things a little. Whether it tis nobler to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous misfortune and ultimate failure. But in life there is hope; hope that one day the world will go back to making sense, and in sense progress can be achieved. Death, the quick release, the end to suffering, but what would it accomplish? Certainly my death could not and would not undo the mistakes of the dragonarmy, nor reverse the mutually destructive path that this city is headed on. In death I lose you; the only true friend that I knew I could always rely on, and I harm you; an ill fate you never asked for or deserved. You’ve been making wonderful progress in starting to understand the world, and I cannot die, if only to all you to keep on living. In life what is there without Ismene? One could risk all for her, but without a plan it could all be for naught and worse.

What do I know? I know that she cannot be held in the keep, for the keep does not have a room secure enough to hold her save the vault; and the chances of her being in the vault are slim at best. I know that she was arrested by the army in secrecy, so she’s unlikely to be held at the church. I also know that there is nowhere else in the city, save the prefect’s mansion, that could function as a high security prison for a mage; especially with Magnus apparently being missing for weeks now.
I know that most of the trade guild, which was also arrested secretly is at the prefect’s mansion, and I know that she’s not in the small fraction of the mansion that we scouted. She is not in the general cells in the mansion, but they are far from the most secure areas in the mansion that we can imagine; for somewhere in there is likely a dragon vault, and there is still a large portion of the house unscouted.

I also know that there are few or no posters or advertisements for the execution today; which speaks to fear, disorganization or secrecy behind the event. But most importantly it means I’m unlikely to find out more details about it unless I overhear people talk about it; which might happen here where they’ll build the gallows soon… or more likely back at the mansion where it is apparently common knowledge.

Thus I can conclude that if there is any possibility of saving Ismene from this horrific fate; I can only hope to glean more details about it at the prefect’s mansion.
And so Haahqae heads back to the mansion; keeping his eyes and ears open on the way for any sign of soldiers who appear to know about the execution. He’ll also be attempting to figure out a plan.

Tulbas takes few minutes to organize his thoughts and answers as clear as possible, and even casts a Cantrip to calm down his beating heart and increase his own focus. "There are several reasons for the path I take in life. The ultimate one is the charm and beauty I see in magic. I simply enjoy discovering the miracles of the world around us. The complexity and the harmony of the strings that weave all around us. Next, I find that the knowledge I gain becomes naturally part of my being, and is used as tools to serve my intentions. Would it be help others or myself. Would it be in battle, or in peace. Then there is the dream of becoming one day a master myself, to research knew knowledge and then to teach and spread it, to learn from my apprentices, to find new non conservative usage for known spells and uncover as much as possible of the secrets of this world."

Haahqae (Prefect's Mansion)
Using his invisibility, Haahqae heads back to the prefect's mansion. As he passes through the checkpoint unseen, he does spot some soldiers heading to the marketplace, carrying building materials. They do not speak to each other, though, so he does not overhear anything. He figures they'll likely finish building the gallows in about three hours or so.

Returning to the mansion, he finds it exactly as he left it. Nothing else has changed here.

Kendra Synclair (Prefect's Mansion)
"Ahh, I see," Tethys says, tenting his hands. "And if he were released then, you'd have no further obligation to him. Is that it?"

Tulbas Erogund (Tower of Wayreth, Unknown Floor on AT 15)
"That is...a somewhat non-committal answer," Justarius says. "Somehow that was rather expected."

Par-Salin nods. "He speaks of virtues all three Orders value. Perhaps then, we should leave the choice to him. If you wish to join the Order of Solinari, that means accepting that magic exists to serve man--all of us. Not just our families and friends, but everyone in the world. Even our enemies. That means to join us, you will need to discard the idea of vengeance upon your master. No, more than that. You'll need to forgive him. Killing him won't bring your uncle back, and indeed, having known the man myself, I'm not sure he would approve of you bloodying your hands in his name."

"On the other hand," Ladonna adds, "the Order of Nuitari believes that magic is a tool for the strong. It allows the weak to become strong, if they have the intelligence and ambition to study it. Using that power to protect those that would just as soon burn us at the stake serves no purpose. That means to join us, you'll need to discard your overly naive ideas of helping people. Let's face facts. The world is unfair. It always has been and always will. You can either seize power for yourself, or spend your life being stepped on."

"As for the Order of Lunitari," Justarius continues, "we believe that the power that comes from magic is not a weapon or a shield, but simply a tool for increasing knowledge. Furthering knowledge is our only concern. Thus, in order to join us, you'll need to actually do both of what my companions ask. Drop your ideas of vengeance and of helping others. What happened to your home and your family is tragic, but it's in the past. Let go of your earthly concerns, and embrace the Art and nothing else. Then you will be welcome among us."
