Saltmarsh OOC Chat

Desolate and abandoned, the evil alchemist’s mansion stands alone on the cliff, looking out towards the sea. Mysterious lights and ghostly hauntings have kept away the people of Saltmarsh, despite rumours of a fabulous forgotten treasure. What is its sinister secret?

Oh, I see. Yeah, I guess I never knew for sure what the purple potion did, I just took Brax at her word when she said it was a healing potion.

Also, didn't we pretty much clear out the whole mansion? Going back just for treasure doesn't seem terribly interesting.

EDIT: A thought occurs to me, but when the militia came in to save us, wouldn't they have searched the place and found any treasure we missed, anyway?

If the militia came in on a "normal" search and rescue mission, certainly. They would have had to to look for you and in the process searched the house. But since Amon could direct them to the party's location, they had no reason to look, for example, at the room Amon had been locked in earlier.

They wouldn't have searched the house after we were rescued, though? To make sure the smugglers were really gone, if nothing else?

(I really don't like the idea of us being 'rewarded' with treasure we either didn't find or failed to collect in the first place, especially as we lost the battle with the smugglers.)

No, the treasure would all be taken by the council, but there is important information to be found. But if everyone is OK with it, we can continue the game the next day at the inn or in the council room.

Next day is fine with me, we failed basically, lets do damage control.

I can't help think its my fault.

That works for me. I have some retooling to do to Amon during the downtime anyway.

But, there's still the matter of dividing the treasure we do have. If Amon casts Detect Magic on all of the loot, what comes out as magical?

The Daggers are magical, as is the armor Vee picked up.

The weapons are non magical yet highly crafted.

Oh and the Nystul book has spell written in the spine. I will find my notes and tell you what one in a moment.

Okay. Amon casts Identify on the plate mail and daggers. And Searos can do appraisal checks on the other, non-magical gear.

Daggers are +1 as is the armor. Brelia has already factored that into Vee's AC.

Vee may as well keep the armor then, since it fits her and nobody else other than Brax could wear it anyway.

As for the +1 daggers, well only two people in the group can use daggers--Vee and Kim. We could give both to Vee, or both to Kim, or give them both one each. Not sure what good a +1 dagger would do in the hands of a wizard, though.

Searos can probably make the best use of the chloroform and Brax may as well hold on to the Neutralize Poison potion.

As for the spellbook, the three mages can share it. Amon prefers defensive and non-lethal spells, being an Abjurer, so he'd probably take a shot at Hypnotism, Wall of Fog, and Detect Invisibility. None of those are Abjuration spells, so the odds are not in his favor toward learning them.

Chance to Learn (45%)
Hypnotism (1d100): 89, fail.
Wall of Fog (1d100): 25, success
Detect Invisibility (1d100): 93, fail.

Well, that's one spell added to his repertoire. Maybe the girls will have better luck there.

I've been so confused as to what is going on. I thought it was decided that we were moving on?

What are the spells in the spellbook? I might as well have Echo try to learn them.

I gave the list of spells from the book here, but I'll post them again:

1st level - Color spray, Hypnotism, Wall of Fog

2nd level - Detect Invisibility, Invisibility, Magic Mouth, Darkness 15' radius

Echo has a 70% chance to learn any of these spells, and Kim has a 75% chance.

Kim's rolls:

Color Spray 1d100=46, success
Wall of Fog 1d100=94, fail
Hypnotism 1d100=92, fail
Detect invisibility 1d100=10, success
Invisibility 1d100=42, success
Magic Mouth 1d100=64, success
Darkness 15' radius 1d100=65, success

BTW, We're all second level only, how come we can learn second-level spells? Or can we just understand and copy them, but not cast them?
