OOC Chat

A 5e D&D campaign starting at 1st level in and around the city of Waterdeep in the Forgotten Realms.

Waterdeep: City of Splendours, seat of many thousand plots. Are they opportunities for success, or for an untimely demise?

If no one is searching for a secret door or compartment then I use the character's Passive Perception if passing within 5'. Under darkvision it would be at a 5 penalty.

An active search is where the char is stated to be searching for secret door/concealed compartments in a specific area. By sight is a Perception skill roll. An alternative is by touch/sound for an investigation roll.
In passing, if a char discovers a secret door then I apply passive Investigation as a free means of finding the method of opening, assuming any level of difficulty applies.

Not actually looked it up but I'd assume it's one round (6 seconds) to check out up to a 5'x5' area.
