CH. 8: Reunion

"You have no idea what you are dealing with " Arei scowls, "Foolish...." She shakes her head, patting Val gently on the shoulder. "I doubt there was much saving needed.. Val is a capable warrior and good friend."

"Arelion Landar." She offers with a nod

"Have you searched him yet? And we have some... insight, it seems Joyceln and I are connected, we bedded the same man." she grins at Val as she leans down checking the man's pockets.

After just sitting in the temple for a few minutes by herself to collect her thoughts, Jocelyn walks out to meet the others. She pauses in her steps upon seeing the stranger. "Who is this?" She asks.

Val pulls out the mans pouch, weighing it in her hand, "Just gold and a vial of poison I think. Seems 20 gold is the price for your life Jocelyn"

Val hands it to Jocelyn, "For you church." she says with a wink.

"With pirates, life is cheap." she says with a shrug. "What did you say your name was?" she asks the newcomer.

Baeros looks around, feeling wronged by all these women, then he takes some dried meat from his packs and says while chewing some, "Well, your 'so capable' friend was the only one who got wounded... But that's water under the bridge. I'm Baeros Axewielder," Baeros looks around at everyone, "and your 'capable' friend, Val, told me that this man tried to assassinate the Pastor," glancing toward the priest he adds "Which is probably you...

Now, I was escorting Shalek to the village, and stumbled upon Val chasing that man. I couldn't know he is an assassin and Val had wear a maniacal face features, so I suggested them to calm down and to escort them both back here to avoid blood shed. That man obviously deceived me, wounded Val 'the capable warrior', and tried to kill me too. Luckily Takit protected us. I'm sorry for the man's condition, but Takit just was a little bit too excited I guess..." Baeros smiles at his dog and throws to him a chunk of the meat. "Anyway, since I became involved, I'd like to get to the bottom of this and assist in any way if I can.

Do you have any idea why would someone want you dead?" Baeros looks again at the Pastor.

[Jenara]

"Frankly there is a difference between attacking to disarm, and attacking to kill.." Arei suggests as she gives the man a frown, "Val was trying to bring him back alive, that sometimes envolves risk."

"As for why the Pastor would be attacked..." She shrugs, "Oh well, we should talk to the guard, to arrange getting rid of thy body."

[Breila]

"From what I've been told, there is no guard in this town" Ouragana remarks. "Jocelyn, do you know how to dispose of the assasin's body?"

Jocelyn takes the gold with a sigh as she listens to the new man speak. "Don't get mad at him for killing him," she says to the others. "He didn't know." She looks over the strangers dog for a moment before she finally approaches Baeros, and holds out her hand to him. "I'm Jocelyn Blaine, and yes I do know why he was sent after me," she says to the man before she finally addresses Ourgana. "Well, to follow Octhanus, I guess we give him his final rites, and put him to sea."

Hearing Arelion criticism Baeros mutters silently under his breath, "'there is a difference between attacking to disarm, and attacking to kill...'" He mimics her quietly, "I can teach you all about it little elf. I was attacked from behind for the love of Octhanus... arrr... women..."

With Jocelyn approaching him, Baeros, slightly surprised, stops dead his muttering, raises his eyebrows a little, but takes Jocelyn hands all the same. "Uhm... yes... thanks. Nice to meet you."

"Maybe everyone in this village likes to hold hands..." Baeros thinks to himself while eying, Arelion, Ourgana and Val somewhat expectantly.

After nothing happens, Baeros says, "So, Jocelyn, don't keep us in the dark. While we prepare the corpse for the rite, you can enlighten us as for the reasons of the attempt on your life. How do we prepare it by the way?"

"I'm sure I could teach you a few things." she suggests with a sly grin. "Come then lets move the body inside." the little elf says as she heads over and leans over the body. "Val?"

"Allow me," 'little elf' Baeros says and lifts the body over his shoulder. "Jocelyn, please lead the way to where I can put him down. Oh, and maybe you should check the gold coins imprints, they might suggest where or from who he got them. We should also check the poison, sometime it's like a signature, unique to specific person, cult or other groups."

"Looking at the coins is a good idea" Ouragana admits, surprised that a woodman couls be so worldwise.

(Does Spellcraft help to indentify poisons? If so, Ouragana will have a look at it.)

"Go right ahead." Arei motions with a sweep of her cloak, spinning on her heels she approaches the Val. "A moment?" She asks, pulling her to one side.

Val hands Jocelyn half of the gold the assassin was holding, secretly pocketing the rest for herself.

After Baeros is paid by his employer, he places the money in Thunder's saddlebag, as he has no other place to put it.
