"I have birds to feed. We should head to my safe house for the night. In case anyone is following. Don't need to get your Mom involved in our adventures."

I think I described what Sue wants to do while heading the safe house a few posts back.
Nocturno wrote:"I know some good ones." Sue will lead them to his street where he has been buying food and giving it out to the beggars.

"I've been getting in the good graces with the kebabs from this one." Sue will again buy 5 extras to bribe the beggars around his safe house.
For any info they might have, and for them to forget he went by.

"Bring your food with us, I have a comfortable safe place we can eat and rest."

He will make sure to buy a good cask of ale, and ample food for himself and the others.

He will also make sure they are not being followed. Doubling back at least 3 times.

Is everyone good with the above?

(I'm going to assume the CK is, purely because he's travelling and may not have time to post fro the next few days; so actually I 'm just addressing SQL..)

Taking significant precations Sue leads the trio back to the safe house.
Having procured food en route, there are nine sets of waiting mounths and seeking hands.

One of the waifs, 'Ronnie', a tough looking half-elf apparently in her early teens, volunteers, "I wuz the first ta saw 'im. A geezer in old clothes tryin' ta get into your winda. Had a rope and all. Didn't get in though.." A little one runs up, a human girl, no more than 10, split shoes several sizes too big and ragged skirt looks like a discarded pillow case. "S'ok Ron!" Ronnie explains, "Tina's one ov ours. Keep lookout for yous, noble sirs. Means you wuzn't tailed." She smiles at little Tina and hands her some food that she's saved. It looks far too small to sustain her, but still she beams brightly.

What next?

Jim ignores the others as he quickly and efficiently checks the damage to his body from the last encounter. Once satisfied nothing is broken, just badly pummeled and beaten, he contributes to the conversation.

"I heard two languages. Celestial and Elvish."
[Celestial] "...we must tell, want to tell?", [Elvish] "Nay, cursed to tell!..."
After that was said, more words came but not that I understood. Then they said this
[Celestial] "...fragment of fated tablets else powder ground in the Year of Shadows…".

"Any other details of the man who tried to break in?"
Sue will patiently wait while any explainations are made.

Once inside:
As Jim checks himself, Sue settles into a comfortable looking chair, nursing a drink, sighing as he touches all the sore spots.

"We seem to be doing this far too much."

He then thinks back to what he overheard.
"I heard the voices in Orcish, and Halfling. The last bit was spoken in the voice of my spiritual guide Zor Lonetree."

[Orcish] "...ordning shattered by annam, the all-father. Doom...", [Halfling] "...and despair shall visit all small folk unless..."
[Orcish] "…be restored, so seers tower over the aloof, the warmongers, the predators and xenophobes and all...", [Halfling] "...above those of the hills, once more. Else each shall challenge fated hierarchy to reforge their destiny..."
[orcish] "The eye sends assassins. Rassalanter..." Sue's ears pop and he gets he most incredible pains in all his internal tubing. it passes. "...zalto's minios recovering vonindod shards!"
======================================================
Once we put these together I'm guessing some history or type checks will help us piece them together?

Ill read them all over together to see if anything fits.

"I think we need to focus on a few bits." The gears start to turn in Sue's head, his investigative training hopefully kicking in.

"These 'fragment of fated tablets', and the 'Year of Shadows' "

He then tries to pull the fragments he heard into sentences, or focuses on the names out loud.

Jim listens to Sue's musings and adds "I was always one of the more physically studious... perhaps some of the more historical literary types at the temple could help with that. Worth a shot if you think the elves babble is worth checking out."

After screwing up her face and a hard think Ronnie says, "Well, the geezer 'ad a really big conk." She taps here nose. "Nope, nuffin' else. Just a real big pointy conk."

With but a moment’s thought and effort Woody recalls the Calendar of Harptos and the Roll of the Years. The 'Year of Shadows' was 1358DR.*

History is fine to recall something that you've heard in the past. Alternatively asking an appropriate person a specific question may yield results (if the person knows and wants to help.) Research requires time, resource and effort, c.f. XGE p132

*To recall more requires a successful History skill check. Woody has advantage. Sue is disadvantaged.

History(Int)(0)(Dis)Advantage: [1d20]=2 [1d20]=4
"I should check with Daisy, I can't seem to piece this together."

Does Sue recall anyone with a really big conk?
