"Maughus?" Liri calls out, loudly enough for the others in the camp to hear. she stays where she is and readies a few darts.

Angels blade is drawn in the blink of an eye, the long sword glinting in the sun, spinning on her heels she moves to stand by Liri. Saying nothing she ensures Liri takes a step back.

Noting the strange sight and the response of the others to it, Calah draws up behind Angel, her eyes narrowing subtly. She draws a dagger with each hand and silently waits for further developments.

"Take cover." Galanis orders Salia and join the others. "What's wrong?"

"I saw something move under Maughus's blanket, a little to the front of his belly, and he doesn't get up" Liri calmly tells those who joined her.

"Stay back." She warns, "Maughus?" She asks with the tip of her sword near him, after everything that had happened she wasn't go to let anything catch her unawares.

Maughus grumbles again, slightly more awake this time. One eye opens slightly, then shuts against the morning sun.
The blanket growls, a grinding sound like an ungreased chariot axle about to break at the wheel hub, and rocks slightly.

"That can't be good," Calah says, her eyes narrowed, still holding a blade in each hand. She glances at Angel, ready to follow her lead.

Liri had stepped back as Angel motioned her. Now, with everybody else concentrating on Maughus, she looks around to see of there's anything else that's suspicious.

"Maughus, you need to wake up." Using the blade she lifts the blanket and prepares to face whatever happens.

Angel is rewarded with another grating growl, louder this time, and a brief flash of a black nose and a black-and-white striped furry muzzle, and a pair of black eyes blinking at the sunlight. It's a face that might be cute were it not for the mouthful of sharp white teeth.
She does have time to notice that the face is clean (as opposed to gore streaked) before the blanket slips off her sword tip and covers the animal again.
At the sound of the growl Maughus mutters something to the effect of: "Be quiet, you." Then a few breaths later, he opens his eyes and looks blearily at the crowd gathered around him. "What?" he asks.

"Keep your animal under control." Angel curses and turns on her heels, sheaving the blade as she does so. This was driving her crazy...

Calah lets out a breath, sounding like she's deflating as she realizes what the disturbance was. "Never knew a man to bed a skunk on purpose," she mutters to herself as she drifts away. "Skank, sure. Skunk, no."

Galanis loughs at Calah's sentence and takes another bite from the leftovers of breakfast.

"Skunk? Baah! This is not skunk." Maughus is fully awake now, and is moving deliberately as he begins to rise.
"I am what you might call 'safe' at the moment. But the rest of you... Look, if he gets to moving towards you, step out of his way. A badger can dig through five feet of earth in a minute. One of you...probably a lot faster than that."
Maughus slowly pulls the blanket back, revealing his furry friend, who sits blinking in the morning sunlight but doesn't look ready to run off. The look on the badger's face is one of irritation rather than fear.
"What is for breakfast? And can we spare some for him?" Maughus asks.
