Re: CH. 8: Reunion
Baeros is grinning as politely as he knows at Val and then asks Jocelyn, "Oh, wait, is there a safe place where I can leave my bags and also where can I put Thunder?"

Re: CH. 8: Reunion
"Try the inn in town," Jocelyn says as she looks over the body of the man that tried to kill her. "They probably have some stables. As for who tried to kill me, pirates," she said bluntly. "To put it simply enough."
Re: CH. 8: Reunion
Baeros puts the saddle bags over his other shoulder, his muscles a little bit strained with the body on the other shoulder. "Since I'm not settled yet, I rather we prepare the body in an inner yard of the temple if it has such, or the backyard, where I can leave Thunder there and keep an eye on him."
To Jocelyn he says, "Pirates?!? I guess it is a long story... So are you planning to do something about it? No offense, you look pretty idle, or at least much less angry than one would expect of an assassination attempt victim."

Re: CH. 8: Reunion
"Just because I might appear calm at the moment doesn't mean that I don't feel anything about this whole situation," Jocelyn admits. "If anything, I'm a little frustrated because I'm not sure what I can do about this. I'm also scared, but there isn't anything I can do about that either. My first instinct is to hunt them down, and kill them. Though, my faith prevents me from doing that even though I know they are going to try this again."
Re: CH. 8: Reunion
Arei watches the exchange with interest, saying nothing she stands with her hand on her hilt.

Re: CH. 8: Reunion
Val moves over the but her arm around Jocelyn, "Don't worry Jocelyn, I will kill them for you if they try it again."
Re: CH. 8: Reunion
Baeros also tries to encourage Jocelyn but with his lack of tact might do the opposite, "Don't worry, I'll stay around, and Takit can rip their throats off. Each single one of them. Besides, as far as I know, Octhanus is also the god of mercy, and let you be tore out with these conflicts isn't so merciful. You should think about that... Let these pirates just come and get you is plain stupid. No offense. Octhanus probably would want you to follow your heart in tracking them down, and then see what happens. If a peaceful solution will come out, it will be for the better, but if they will keep being nasty, treacherous and stupid, as their friend here, I'll be there to chop them up together with your 'most capable warrior' and the 'little elf'" Baeros grins at Val and Arelion.
Re: CH. 8: Reunion
Ouragana meanwhile looks at the assasin and rakes her brain about any secret societies she has heard about. Would this just be someone who killed for money, regardless of who the victim or the initator was, or was there an ideology to it, like hatred of religion in general or the Ocanthus cult in particular?
There's more to me than meets the eye...
Re: CH. 8: Reunion
"The inn is a little packed." Arei comments, considering everything, would the Cleric really just... ? For all she knew the man could have been sent by the Pirates..

Re: CH. 8: Reunion
Ouragana cannot think of any secret societies she knows about, since if she knew about them, they would hardly be secret.
However, she can deduce a few things from the man's actions. First, he clearly wasn't very skilled. He had managed to lure Jocelyn into a room, alone, with no armor or weapons or combat prayers memorized. Despite all of this, he still failed to even inflict a mild blemish upon her, even before Val and Areilon burst in.
Secondly, he continued to fight for some time, even after it was clear he had botched the job. If he didn't have the skill to kill Jocelyn quickly, he certainly didn't have the skill to face Areilon and Val together. Nevertheless, he stuck around for several minutes, only retreating when he became severely injured. This suggests he was acting more on passion than cold, calculated logic. It would seem that a professional assassin would have bailed to save his own life once things took a turn south.

Re: CH. 8: Reunion
After a moment ofthought, Ouragana comes back to the group. She clears her throat and tries to speak loudly enough to get attention, even of that man who kept talking and talking. "I don't think the man was a professional assasin, who killed for the money" she says. "He seems to have had his heart in it, or he would have fled as soon as his mission had clearly failed and he was attacked himself."
(OOC: I meant secret society in the sense of the Mafia or the KuKluxKlan, who are secret societies that everyone has heard at least rumors about)

"Probably one of the crew.." Arei agrees, "The ship must be close by.."

Re: CH. 8: Reunion
"I doubt he was one of the crew. It would be kind of stupid to use one of the crew members because there is a chance I would recognize crew members," Jocelyn points out to Arei. "Okay, first off, maybe we should investigate this man," she offers. "Learn about what he was actually up to, since he wasn't a professional killer," she offers. "He was probably staying here in town. After that, we can decide what to do."
Re: CH. 8: Reunion
"Is there something like a public mourning before a funeral here? This might be the easiest way to find out if someone knew him. Of course, this might also compromise us." Ouragana suggests.

Re: CH. 8: Reunion
"You know as well as I do that Pirate crews change regularly, just because he isn't familiar to you doesn't anything." grinning she moves to the body. "I'll go to the inn with Oura, check out his room.." she winks. "Val can stay and guard you."
