"Is there anything on board we can throw at these?" Ouragana asks the nearest crew member.

Seeing Brock is too slow to run from the Zombies Baeros returns to his side and tell him to go to the ship while he and Val will cover him. To the sailors he shouts, "Gods below! Use your crossbows!!!"

(OOC: Baeros attacks Zombie23 with his short sword.)

With a bark of defiance at the zombies, Takit runs up the plank and joins the others on the ship. Baeros moves forward to cover Brock, stabbing a zombie in the neck and ending its mockery of life for good.

Brock continues to withdraw, but his limp hinders him badly. He only makes it to the edge of the plank. Val steps back to join Baeros in holding off the remainder of the horde.

Ouragana asks if they have anything to throw and Baeros demands the sailors use their crossbows, but to no avail. "We ran out of ammo about half an hour before you lot showed up!" one sailor explains.

Jocelyn takes her second to last stone and slings it at a zombie, nicking it in the shoulder. She has one stone remaining now.

The zombie horde continues to push forward, swarming around Val and Baeros. One gets in a lucky hit, nearly knocking the half-orc out. She sways dizzily as blood runs from freely from her wounds. She isn't likely to be able to withstand another hit.

Seeing Brock has reached the plank and Val wound Baeros tells her, "Take a defense position and go after Brock. I'm right behind you." and he tries to defend Val while all retreat to the ship.

======================================
(OOC: If Val and Brock can both board the ship this round Baeros will take a stand on the plank where only one opponent can face him at a time. He will also pass his bow and arrows back so someone will shoot the Zombies and will try to get back a new long sword or a shield to improve his efficiency.
If not Baeros will try to take a stand that will protect Val and if possible won't expose him to attacks from all directions (Say Brock current position, or the first square of the plank that still facing 3 opponents
Baeros will attack the closest Zombie at that position (I guess Zombie24)
).

Shaking her head in a feeble attempt to clear her senses, Val retreats . She is happy to simply defend herself by batting away attacks with her trident.

Brock limps up the plank, his progress slow. Val goes next, climbing the plank and passing the dwarf so she can board. Baeros stabs at one zombie, then withdraws, as well. However, he stops short of passing Brock, instead remaining where he is to keep the zombies from following the party up the plank.

Jocelyn loads her last stone into her sling and lets it rip, hitting one of the zombies in the head but not finishing it off.

The zombies start to surround the plank, pushing and shoving each other to be the first to reach the living on board the ship. Baeros effectively blocks their progress, however. The first zombie to arrive hits the ranger, bruising him badly.

A few moments later, Saren arrives. The rest of his group is back on the shoreline, having not yet stepped onto the pier. It looks they have wounded. Saren has apparently gone ahead, approaching the zombie horde by himself, despite wearing no armor and carrying no visible weapon.

Jocelyn pulls out her warhammer, now that her stones are gone. She knows that the others have them bottled neck on the plank, but just in case they get through, she was going to be ready. ~What is he doing?~ she thinks to herself as she watches Saren.

Wounded again and again Baeros only wants to get on the ship and pull the plank under the zombies legs, but then he sees Saren and fears pulling the plank would mean Saren's doom. "Damn it! You stupid elf! What are you doing?!" he curses. "Someone take my arrows! And someone give me a shield!" he shouts while changing from retreat to attack, roaring in hope to get the zombies attention off Saren and be able to carve a path for Saren through the horde.

(OOC: Reluctantly Baeros continues chopping at the Zombie in front of him (Z17) feeling he is being a canon fodder :shootem: , but knowing he put himself at that position.
Init + Hit (7,10(AC6)) I'm not sure it a hit but in any case... Dmg (2). Well, basically Baeros just roars this round... :wow: maybe that can be count for something :) )

Baeros screams at Saren for acting so foolishly while taking another light stab at the nearest zombie. But Saren doesn't seem the least bit worried. Even when some of the horde breaks away to start coming at him, he doesn't even break a sweat. Rather, he takes his holy icon and lifts it over his head. "In the name of Octhanus, Mother of Life, return to your eternal sleep!" he cries. The icon suddenly gives off a burst of white searing light, and a blue mist erupts around the cleric. As the mist spreads outward, into a circle, it completely disintegrates every zombie it touches. They merely turn to dust effortlessly.

When the mist clears, all of the remaining zombies are gone. The battle is over. Saren turns back and gestures for the rest of his group to come forward. Then he turns back to the ship. "We have wounded incoming. Stand clear of the plank."

Jocelyn's eyes widen as she watches as the zombies just seem to disappear. She didn't have the power to do that, or at least she didn't have the power to do that yet, and she was in awe. She walks over to Val, places her hand upon her shoulder, and starts praying to heal her wounds.

"Thanks Jocelyn. After all that, I can't help but think we should have waited. I didn't know Saren had that kind of power." Val says. "Now what I wonder."

The rest of Saren's group approaches, several of them carrying wounded. "Bring them down below for treatment," Saren informs them. He then turns toward the old cleric. "Report."

"We've been assault numerous times so far," she responds. "A couple of groups of angry townsmen tried to board, but we managed to scare them off by firing warning shots. But then zombies started approaching. I tried to turn them, but...sadly, my power wasn't enough. We wound up using the rest of our ammo to keep them at bay, and when that ran out, we had to fight them off by hand." She looks over to the party. "Luckily these folks showed up, or we might have been overwhelmed."

Saren turns toward the party. "You have my thanks then." He turns back to the old woman. "Have any other groups reported in yet?"

She shakes her head.

"Any sign of slaadi?" he asks.

The old woman appears confused. "Slaadi, captain?"

"Large, man-sized frogmen. They would have red or perhaps blue or green skin," Saren explains.

The old woman shakes her head again. "Nothing like that, captain."

"Good. I fear they are doing worse damage to the city than even the zombies are," he replies.

Jocelyn lays hands on Val and prays to Octhanus, completely healing that last wound the half-orc received. She's still rather bloodied and beaten, but is no longer on the verge of collapse.

=========

Jocelyn casts Cure Moderate Wounds on Val, restoring (1d10+1): 10 HP. Val's condition is improved from critically wounded to seriously wounded.
