Re: CH 1: The Road Travels East
The cleric tenses upon Caramon's arrival, but calms when Sturm vouches for him. "Armies to the north? Only rumors," he says. "The road to the north is clear. As for why we are here, we seek a staff," he answers readily. "A blue crystal staff. We heard that it had been sighted in Solace. Do you know aught of it? It is a sacred staff of healing. One of our brothers is sorely ill," he says, gesturing to the cleric in the wagon, lying on his back. "He will die without the blessed touch of this holy relic."
The cleric shakes his head. "It was stolen from our holy order. We tracked the foul thief to a barbarian village in the Plains, then lost the trail. There are rumors of strange doings in Solace, however, and it is there we go. This dismal journey is but little sacrifice for us compared to the pain and agony our brother endures with the burning sickness."
In the brushes, the party could hear all of this. The burning sickness was the disease that took Goldmoon's mother when she was but a child. It is a common infliction in these areas, and often leads to death as there is no cure.

(Jen keeps poking me, telling me what he should say, lol)
"I have heard rumors of such a staff, from the same people as the Armies, am I confused over what to believe." He looks to Caramon, "We should put less trust in those drinking partners I suspect."
"The loss of a sacred staff of healing would indeed be a great blow. You have my deepest regret, but, I am afraid I cannot help." Sturm replies, his face low, his brow furled.

" Kid never learned to clear a room. Doors and corners, I told him. Doors and corners."

Re: CH 1: The Road Travels East
Goldmoon clutches the staff, looking wide-eyed at Reiverwind. Had the staff not teleported them to these lands, she would now doubt the story her beloved had told her back home. After all, he had been doing unexpected things. He, who had always maintained to her that all humans were equal - and thus woken her of her pampered princess existaence - was now expressing disdain to people of other races.
She leans her head to the staff, touching her front, closes her eyes and prays "Oh Goddes, guide me, what should I do now?"

Re: CH 1: The Road Travels East
Riverwind's face remains stoic, as always, as he listens to the clerics refer to him as a thief.
As Goldmoon prays, she hears a soft voice in the far back of her mind. "Listen to your heart, my child," it seems to say. "It will never lead you astray."

Re: CH 1: The Road Travels East
"Yes, but my heart is of two minds right now!" Goldmoon almost has to screw her mouth shut not to say that aloud.
There's more to me than meets the eye...
Re: CH 1: The Road Travels East
Raistlin is staring at Goldmoon with a disapproving look on his face, his brother going out has already upset him and now he knows that the Barbarian woman is going to do something foolish.
He looks back at the strange cloaked monks. "This does not feel right Tanis." he whispers to the Half-Elf.

Re: CH 1: The Road Travels East
No further answer comes. Evidently, the goddess wishes her to make her own choice here.
Tanis nods to Raistlin. "I know. But they'll probably move on soon."

Re: CH 1: The Road Travels East
Lifting her head, Goldmoon sees Raistlin looking at her. She looks back, shaking her head almost imperceptibly. Raistlin had been right the first time, she was not going to spring the same trap twice.

Re: CH 1: The Road Travels East
The cloaked man nods slightly. "I understand. Thank you then, for your time. Hopefully we will find some clue in Solace to the location of the staff so that our brother's suffering can be cured."
Bowing slightly to the knight and warrior, he turns and gestures to his men. They resume again, pulling the wagon along the road, passing by the two and continue on to the east.

Re: CH 1: The Road Travels East
As the sounds of the travelling clerics and their wagon die away, Goldmoon's grip on the staff relaxes. She lets her head fall back, tears are glistening in her eyes. It was hard to let someone, anyone, suffer.

Re: CH 1: The Road Travels East
Once the wagon is a sufficient distance away, Tanis steps out of the brush and gestures for the others to follow. "Good work, Sturm, Caramon," he says. "We can never be too careful."
Riverwind silently places a hand on Goldmoon's shoulder in an attempt to comfort her.
"We should move on," Tanis says.

Re: CH 1: The Road Travels East
Goldmoon had slung an arm around Riverwind's waist in response, but at Tanis's words, she nods, lets go of him and resumes her place in the marching order.

Re: CH 1: The Road Travels East
"I have traveled far and wide. Yet I have never seen Clerics like that, I can understand why they gave Tas a feeling." Sturm shudders, glancing behind him warily. "Why were they after the Staff? You said you found it Riverwind, I will not be a part of theft from ones who claim to be Holy."
Sturm stands still, staring at the Plainsman with an accusing glance.

Re: CH 1: The Road Travels East
"The clerics were lying. Or mistaken," Riverwind says. "I did not steal the staff. It was given to me by the blue goddess. She healed me and told me to bring the staff to Goldmoon, which I did." He stares right back at the Solamnic, not flinching under his gaze.
Re: CH 1: The Road Travels East
Goldmoon stands close to her beloved, she too is looking straight into Sturm's eyes.
"I can understand your doubts, Knight Sturm. You have nothing but our word that we are no thieves. I had planned to sing you the song the old man asked for in the inn to you all tonight, but I think I need to give the information to you all right now.
I've told you all already that my father and the council didn't approve of our love. Not only was Riverwind the son of a shepherd, but his family still believed in the old gods. But the Que-Shu had by now a new religion, worshipping the ancestors of their rulers. I was told that my mother, who died when I was little, was now a goddess.
When Riverwind asked for my hand, my father laughed at him and sent him to find proof the old gods still existed. Riverwind went away and came back some time later, with this staff, and he gave it to me.
My father was very ill then, and the staff healed him instantly when I prayed to the Blue Goddess Riverwind told me about and touched my fahter with the staff.
But instead of joining us in marriage, as he had promised, my father decreed that Riverwind should be stoned to death for blasphemy."
Goldmoon swallows hard, her eyes full of tears, her voice breaking. "I was to stand by, in my full princess and goddess-to-be regalia, holding the blasphemous staff. I couldn't do it. When the first stones were thrown, I ran from my place and threw myself into the volley of stones."
Her voice becomes firmer again. "Suddenly, we were engulfed by a bright blue light and lifted off our feet. We landed in an unknown land. Unknown to me, at least. My jewellery bought us the necessary equipment for travel at the next town, and we walked on, hoping to find answers and further proof of the old gods."
