Echo raises an eyebrow as Brax looks over Amon. She isn't exactly sure what to think about that, but right now they had more pressing matters to deal with. "What is your deal with mages?" Echo asks the thief. "We haven't done anything to you...well at least you haven't given me much of a reason to do anything to you."

Searos smirks while leaning against a wall as Brax looks over Amon, noticing the way Echo seems to be bothered. He then flinches and looks rather startled as Echo turns to him. He looks about as if hoping she's talking to someone else or at the very least looking for the nearest exit. His entire demeanor seems to be screaming "RUN!"

"Uh... well..."

Its hopeless. He has no where to go. Searos almost looks like he feels trapped and then seems to steel his resolve.

"Frankly, you mages never know when to leave well enough alone. You're always lookin' for stuff that maybe man shouldn't be looking for. I never trust your motivations. I don't trust a person when I can't predict when they're going to stab me in the back. You mages are contemptible of those of us who don't use your magic. Just look at that ponce who acted like he owned the inn earlier. Oh look at me! I'm so great and mighty!" Searos flails his arms a bit at that one.

"I trust a guy who's motives make sense. Do I owe him coin? He's probably gonna come after me. Does he owe me coin? He's probably going to come after me. Did I sleep with his daughter while he was negotiating for a new wagon axle? He's definitely going to come after me. But you mages? I never trust a person who's motives don't make any sense."

He seems to think on this for a moment. "In all fairness, when I do understand a guy's motives I don't trust him trust him, ya feel me?"

Echo takes on a more thoughtful look as she considers Searos' words. It was such a simple way of looking at things in her mind that it was almost amusing. "Mages have the same motivations as any other person in the world," she finally says. "We just have a different way of achieving our goals. Did you steal my coin? If so, then I would probably come after you, but instead of using a club, mace, or sword to bash your head in, I'll just use a fireball that I can form at my fingertips to turn your body to ash," Echo says with a light shrug, but a small plays upon her lips as she pictures herself forming such a fireball and lashing it out at someone that dared to mess with her.

Echo shakes her head as she snaps out of her little daydream. "That is a bit extreme, of course," she adds. "But you get the picture. As for why mages tend to look down upon others that don't use magic, I think it depends on the person. We know that most people don't understand why we fiddle with things we really shouldn't mess with, but then again most people don't get a taste of the power we get when we use magic," she says. "The power is almost addicting. It is a thrill. The same type of thrill you get when you are running from the father of the daughter that you slept with."

"To the west you say?" Brax says after sometime, listening to the exchange between searos and Echo.

"Of course if you owed me coin.." she adds grinning, "i would have to think about that, but i have to agree with Searos on this, i have seen many so called wizards affect things that should not be touched by mortals.."

She see's Echo's reaction to her examination of Amon, obviously enjoining it she stands against one of the walls, back arched she presses out her chest, yawning.

During the exchange between Searos and Echo, Kim approaches Amon again.

Do you know any protection against illusion? Preferably something non-mages can use as well? Please tell us, then, it may save us all.

Unless you want to corroborate the notions that mages don't care for ordinary folk..."
Kim adds as an afterthought, having caught something of Searos's reproaches.

As Vee enters the romm, first she notice the broken glass on the floor. And then that she wears no shoes. "shit!"she swears. On tiptoes she tries not to stp in the broken pices. "I am not a friend of glass. Especially broken glass." she mutters.

"You say we start with the western hall, which is it?" she asks Amon. "sorry I've lost my direction sense." Or, exactly, I never had one. she completes in her mind.

"As I said," Amon replies with a shrug, "illusions aren't my specialty. In fact, I'm quite poor at them." He shakes his head. "My master says I am too honest to make good use of deceptions such as illusions. But in any case, I only know of one defense against them. If you concentrate very hard on not believing in them, they lose their power. It's tricky, though. Part of the spell effects your mind, making you believe what you see is real, even if someone else tells you it is not."

He elaborates, "If you see a dragon before you, and you can see the light sheen off its teeth and feel the warmth of its breath and hear the sound of its growls, it's very, very difficult to just ignore it, even if you are assured it's not real. It's human nature, I suppose."

======================

(OOC: And for those not hip to the D&D rules, if you think something might be an illusion, you can make a saving throw vs spell to disbelieve. If someone else has all ready made the save and assures you that what you are seeing is only an illusion, you can make a new save at +4.)

"Clerics, thieves, warriors, and whatever else is out there don't search for things that shouldn't be touched by mortals?" Echo asks with a smirk. "Honestly, thieves are actually more notorious for such things than mages are as they are wanting the riches that go with such artifacts," she points out. "Clerics will search for such artifacts in the hopes of becoming closer to their God."

"Thank you for that information, Amon, Apparently my teacher knew even less about illusions than you claim to, because she didn't tell me."

"You make a fair point Young Echo." Brax says, not moving, flashing her eyes at Amon.

"So, are we going to stand about talking about Illusions, or perhaps we might go and see some more of this house?"

(OOC: This is just Brax talking, I actually love the exchange between Echo and Searos, definitely RP bonus here :D)

With that she walks over to Vee, "My dear, perhaps..." She reaches into her pack, "Take these." She produces a set of shoes, they are soft leather, and appear to be about Vee's size.

(ooc: we are going West yes? To the right? Has anyone heard from our Ranger??)

Amon nods. "Let's go then," he says, heading west. Dogmeat, as always, loyally follows.

The Party move on to the west (assume Vee takes the shoes, the fit is a little tight, but ok)

As they walk down the corridor, a door is visible on each side, offset slightly from each other, and a further door sits at the end.

Amon decides arbitrarily to try the southern door first. He turns the knob and pushes it open, taking a look inside.

Amon can tell that this room was once a library, with bookshelves around the walls. Most of the bookshelves are broken now and in many places have come away from the wall altogether. Those few shelves still intact are empty but there is a pile of books in the southwest corner.
