FC0 - CH 4: Ambushes!

Arvin nods. "I can probably take them out before they have a chance."

"Probably?" Barlemus asks. "If you miss, then the whole plan goes up in smoke."

"You saw how he was with the troll, Barlemus," Tavi points out. "So since I'm going to be pretending that I captured you," she starts as she reaches over and pulls off his leather cap. "We are going to have to make it look at least a little convincing. I guess we don't have to remove all of your armor, but I think you should leave your weapons behind with Arvin," she says as she messes up his hair playfully. "So we distract the goblins, Arvin kills them, and then joins us with Barlemus weapons and then we enter the cavern. Sound good?"

Barlemus frowns. "Still not sure I like this idea," he says. He puts all of his weapons on the ground and begins shedding his armor, including his leather cap. "Guess I can always punch them if things go south," he adds.

"Oh, I'll be there with my weapons," Tavi points out. "If things get bad, I can toss one to you. So are you ready?" she asks.

"I'm ready," Barlemus says. "Ut."

Arvin simply nods, draws an arrow and finds a comfortable place to sit and wait.

Tavi draws her sword and points it at Barlemus' back. "Get moving," she says as she has him take the lead towards the entrance towards the cave.

Barlemus sighs, puts his hands up, and allows Tavi to prod him forward.

When they are close enough that the goblins can see them, even in the bright sun, they both ready their spears. One grabs his whistle and puts it to his mouth, ready to blow it at a moment's notice.

Tavi peeks her head around Barlemus to look to the goblins. Since she can't speak goblin, she decides to keep it pretty simple. "Captured Night Stalker," she says simply to the guards. ~Oh, please Arvin target the one that has the whistle to his lips,~ she thought to herself.

The two goblins pause, and one looks to the other. They speak to each other rapidly in goblin. Then they turn to face her.

"Supposed to meet at tree. How you know to find this place?!" he demands accusingly.

Tavi suddenly remembers the whole meeting at the tree thing. ~Okay, I can make something up easily enough,~ she thinks to herself. "You didn't tie the blindfold very well," Tavi says with a shrug. "So it was easy for me to trace my steps back here. Plus, there are a whole lot of footprints that lead here," she points out, pointing with her free hand at the dirt that they are standing on which clearly has their footprints.

The goblin seems to buy this story, apparently too stupid to remember humans can't see in the dark, and so she wouldn't have been able to see anything even without her blindfold.

"This Night Stalker? Not so tough looking," the goblin says.

Tavi makes a CHA check (1d20): 8, pass.

"Not so tough looking?" Tavi says, looking up to Barlemus then back to the goblins. "This guy could break me in half," she points out. "Almost nearly did, but I managed to get him in the end. I wasn't going to take the chance of keeping him through out the day, so I brought him right over. What do you want me to do with him?"

The goblin opens his mouth to respond, when an arrow suddenly comes out of nowhere, striking his companion in the face and dropping him to the ground. A second arrow comes whizzing forward, but the goblin ducks, avoiding it. Barlemus quickly leaps forward, knocking the goblin down and getting it in a leg lock. Choking, the goblin passes out within moments.

Arvin comes running up, silent as the wind.

"I thought you never miss," Barl says, getting to his feet.

"You were in my shot," Arvin responds.

Shaking his head, Barlemus heads back to the hiding spot. "Gotta grab my gear! Wait for me!"

Arvin quickly retrieves his two arrows, then uses his blade to slit the goblins' throats to make sure they are dead.

Arvin fires at Goblin Sentry 01 (1d20+3): 21, hit for (1d8): 8 damage. Goblin Sentry 01 falls.

Arvin fires at Goblin Sentry 02 (1d20+3): 9, miss.

Barlemus attacks Goblin Sentry 02 with a leg lock (1d20+2): 13, hit for 3 damage. Goblin Sentry 02 falls.

Tavi stands there looking slightly stunned that this whole thing worked out like she planned. "I can't believe it," she mutters. With wide eyes, she stares into the entrance to the cavern. "It is going to be hard to see in there," she says softly. "And I don't have a clue as to where I'm going in there either."

"I can scout ahead," Arvin says. "I'm stealthier and can see fine in the darkness. But you two will need a light source of some kind, like a torch or lantern."

Barlemus comes running up, re-armed and re-armored, his rusty chain mail noisily loud as he approaches.
