"But doing so would leave the wagon unguarded." Liri notes a sense of hesitance in her voice, almost worry.

===================================================
(OOC: Initiative = 15, Hit Arrow #1 = 13 (AC6), Hit Arrow #2 =22 (Critical hit), Dmg Arrow #1 = 7, Dmg Arrow #2 = 13 ([1d10+7] = 8+7 = 15,[1d20+2] = 11+2 = 13,[1d20+2] = 20+2 = 22,[1d8+5] = 2+5 = 7,[1d8+5] = 8+5 = 13)

How do you handle critical hits? Double the dmg or double the dice throws? If double the dice,also double the bonus to dmg? I only listed the base, please edit according to your method.

[OOC] Critical hits are described in the House Rules thread, but essentially, if you roll a 20, you roll normal damage but you get another "to hit" roll to possibly do additional damage. If that bonus roll comes up a 20, the process repeats. Or in some special cases, there might be a more interesting effect.
In the interest of moving things along, I'll make the bonus roll for you this time.

Oh, and these are zombies we're dealing with, so there's no need to roll initiative because they always attack last in the round.[/OOC]

Angel's two arrows hit one of the walking corpses, punching into its torso. The impact staggers the creature, but the arrows do not appear to have any other effect on it. It keeps shambling forward.

Galanis' first arrow strikes another of the creatures, punching through its face just below the eye and dropping the thing to the ground. His second arrow strikes yet another walking corpse, striking just above the hip with no noticeable effect.

Hiric, having realized that he has the luxury of time, carefully aims his crossbow and lets fly. The bolt flies true and strikes a zombie, but does not seem to have any further effect.

[OOC] Actions for Round 3, please. [/OOC]

Liri resolutely turns to the wagon and speaks to Fraso. "Master Fraso, you are the necromancer here. The arrows seem to have no effect on these undead. What does?"

Galanis, satisfied with the result of the first strike, shoots two arrows again.

(OOC: [1d20+2] = 6+2 = 8 (AC11),[1d20+2] = 3+2 = 5 (AC14),[1d8+5] = 4+5 = 9,[1d8+5] = 8+5 = 13
I think both arrows miss.
When the zombies will be 15' from Galanis he will change the weapon to his lance and strike from the galloping horse if possible.)

"Uhhhhh....uhhhhh.... I have an amulet in my bag that should slow them down." Fraso is digging frantically through his gear, and not finding it.

"Slowing them down isn't really what we were hoping for. I'm trying to protect you my Lord but.. " Angel lines up her arrow aiming for the creatures eyes.. "Liri, stay with the Wagon. I'll try that next."

[OOC] Jen - Called shots are at a -4, not -3.
And, just a bit of housekeeping: I didn't realize BG, that you had intended Galanis to remain mounted. A longbow can not be shot from horseback.
Rather than mess around, we'll leave it as it happened, but in the future, no shooting from horseback. Same goes for anyone else using a longbow. Shortbows and crossbows are fine. [/OOC]

The shambling corpses continue to close, slowly, unevenly, but without fail. Each moment brings them closer.

The legionnaires on the wall have now scored a few hits with their crossbows, but the bolts have had little to no effect. The zombies continue to advance.

Liri stays with the wagon. she checks that her gladius can be drawn quickly.

"Master Fraso, do they continue to advance simply because they feel no pain?" she asks the necromancer. she is unnerved by the seeming ineffectiveness of their weapons.

Galanis replace the bow with his lance and try to ride along the left half inner circle of the zombies from north west to north, assuming Angel and the soldiers will attack the zombies coming from north east.

====================================================================
(OOC: I referred to the option he will have to get off the horse back in my first post. I just didn't know if it possible or not so wrote the two options. But maybe after this fight Galanis will ask for a short bow from the local armory. :)
Galanis will try a maneuver from Z1-Z3-Z6 with his horse. If the horse will be in real danger/stress he will get off it and send him running away from the battle, drawing his swords. But I guess that will be known only in few rounds.
Did we kill any zombies? I think our group killed at least one. What about the soldiers?
Attack/Dmg with lance [1d20+2] = 3+2 = 5,[1d8+6] = 1+6 = 7.
I'm not sure about attacking from horse modifiers but even with that I don't believe it's a hit.)

I factored in her +1 to hit for dex, and actually I forgot the +1 for strength. So it would be only -2.

"You know how to fight these things?" Angel asks as she brings Praesul round towards them. "Any help you can offer would be useful."

[OOC] No need for initiative in this combat. Zombies are slow and always attack last.
Called shots to the head are at -4 to hit (and also at a -1 to initiative, but that's a moot point in this case.
Mike and Holly - thank you for posting dialogue in color. It helps me tell the difference between things spoken out loud and the character's internal thoughts.
Mike - Your THAC0 with the longsword is 17 (Base 19, +1 for STR, +1 Elf Longsword bonus). Longsword does 1d8 damage, +1 for STR. I took the liberty of re-rolling the damage for you.
Everyone - The zombies are AC 8. That means a head shot has to hit AC 4. Ordinarily I don't give out this sort of info, but you guys have a lot of opponents at the moment, and it would streamline things for you to know this.
[/OOC]

Galanis' horse, confronted with the stench of the undead, begins shifting nervously beneath him. It hasn't tried to buck or bolt yet, but that's coming. Clearly the horse is going to be more of a liability than an assed in this fight. Seeing trouble brewing, Egg steps forward and levels his spear, preparing to attack the nearest zombie.

The new voice comes from an elf who has just stepped out of the tavern door. As he shouts, he brings his sword around in a short backhand swing, striking the zombie shambling past the corner of the building. The blade strikes its head and cuts deeply, felling the creature.
A second elf follows the first out the tavern door. She shoots at the nearest zombie, her arrow striking its head. The creature drops in its tracks. She is not as lucky with her second shot. It hits one of the zombies but does not kill it. The thing changes direction, shambling slowly towards her.

Fraso stands straight up suddenly, his eyes narrowing, then widening with realization. "The anima of these undead resides in the brain. Destroying the brain is the surest way to devivify them."

Image

Angel shoots, but manages to miss the mark both times. Hiric also shoots, his bolt passing to close to Liri that she feels the breeze as it passes by. The bolt hits a zombie in the chest, with little effect.

[OOC] Actions (and rolls, if applicable) for Round 4, please. [/OOC]

Galanis quickly slides from the horse back gives him a slap sending the poor creatures opposite the zombies direction. Hearing the new fighters he draws his scimitar and his long knife and with a war cry attacks the nearest zombie's head.

=======================================================================
(OOC: Galanis will attack Z3 head.
Scimitar [1d20+3] = 17+3 = 20, Long knife [1d20+2] = 18+2 = 20, Scimitar [1d8+7] = 1+7 = 8, Long knife [1d6+5] = 3+5 = 8 so both weapons hit AC -1
