Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?

Alecia keeps back, her hand grasping Nix. "I.. Are we actually going to do this?"

At the other Sylvans comment on the name of the establishment, Jim dryly replies "not sleeping, means wide open. The Wide Open Hole. I can understand why they chose the phrasing they did."

Luranla brings drinks to the group of merchants.

Sue will grab the servers attention and then ask his question, so the whole group will know the rules of the Well.

Sue whistles, which causes several heads to turn briefly but it has the desired effect.
Luranla glides over to the bar and barely a minute or so later sets down another round of an ale and 6 shots in front of Sue. "Six shards, nine nebs, please."

Sue counters with, "So... how do we go about taking the plunge?"

"Down the well?"

"Aye, some of us here would like to go over any rules for the well."

Sue hands over another gold.

"Throw in another ale for me, and keep the gold."

"Well, Jayne, sorry, it costs 1gp to head down the well, and another to get hauled back up," she answers, pointing at the block and tackle overhanging the 40' diameter well. Torches line the top of the well. "That's each. You can signal for when with the bell-rope. It goes all the way to the bottom. It's a long down - I think someone said 200'. And it's big down there." She points at a piece of parchment pinned to the wall near the far end of the bar.

When she gets the tip, Luranla adds, "Take lots of rope, just in case. Will there be anything else?"

"Have you overheard anything else useful? I'm asking for a friend." He motions to Jim with his eyes.

"The beef stew is really, really good," she smiles, eyes fixed on Sue. Leaning over to polish the table, she adds in a quieter voice, "A sun per returning head at most. You'll get good rates on side bets. Try a 'per room explored'.. Remember me when you make it back!"

Sue is there a rope that takes us down that well or a platform of some sort? We should pay the fee and get on moving. I do not like staying in one place to long.

Craning round Evenwood can see a large bucket, maybe 3 or 4 foot high, attached to the business end of the block & tackle. It would probably hold three average crouching humans.

Jim wanders across to read the parchment. It is a sketch:
