Sturm stays where he is, and waits, then lifts the grating at the same time as Flint and Riverwind.

(Jaded: Will let you roll this one!)

Laurana smiles at Magpie, understanding what she mean't. "There were many of you then?" Giving her filthy hair a rustle the Elf stands back watching the warriors work.

"Oh, yes," Magpie says. "Also, only opened during dry season before," she points out.

"Nice of her to mention that," Tanis says dryly.

Flint, Sturm and Riverwind worked together, but were still unable to lift the trap door with all of that water holding it down.

"Ahh, my rheumatism," the dwarf complains as he lets go, cradling his right hand.

===========

Caramon - 25%
Riverwind - 13%
Sturm - 13%
Flint - 10%

Total score of Riverwind, Sturm and Flint: 36%

BB/LG check (1d100): 42, fail. Probably should have used Caramon instead of Flint...

"Your strong aren't you Caramon, perhaps you, Sturm and Riverwind should lift it?" Laurana says sweetly, fluttering her eyebrows slightly, a childish habit something she should stop.

"Are you ok Flint?" Walking up to the dwarf she takes his old dwarven hand into her palm, stroking it softly. "The things these hands have made, I still have some you know, even all these years later."

"If they can lift it, so can we, even if it was in the dry season." Sturm motions for Caramon to join them, watching Flint move with a concerned expression.

"Really now, lass?" Flint asks. This seems to please the old dwarf, and momentarily distract him from the pain in his hands.

The three men struggled to lift the trap door. Suddenly, there was a sucking sound, then the suction was released so suddenly that the three nearly fell over backward. Water drained from the room quickly, down into the four foot square shaft . A narrow iron ladder descended into the shaft.

"Good job," Tanis tells them.

=============

Total score of Riverwind, Sturm and Caramon: 51%

BB/LG check (1d100): 15, pass. The trap door is opened.

"Of course!" Laurana beams, "I think my Father likes that I keep them, makes him think I am still a little girl." She giggles slightly and smiles as the hatch opens, she had to climb down there.

Catching himself quickly, Riverwind checks himself over a bit after that effort. "That was not fun." Breathing deeply, he waits for the leaders to descend. "Watch those rungs, they could be rusted through."

"It is pitch black down there," Sunstar says. "There is no telling what could be waiting for us down there."

"I can see in the dark, so can Tanis and Tas, one of us should go first perhaps?" its obvious the young princess is not suggesting it should be her! "It looks interesting doesn't it Tas?" she grins at the Kender.

"Indeed it would make sense for one who can see to go first. What is down there little one?" he asks magpie.

"I'll go. Wait here," Tanis says, before climbing down the ladder. He disappears in the darkness.

"Big tunnel," Magpie says, stretching out her arms to emphasize the size. "Very long. Goes under city. On other side, big grate. Through grate is big dragon's home. Many shiny rocks."

After a few moments, Tanis calls out. "The water is only about two feet deep. Colder than the lowest layer of the Abyss, though," he admits. "Looks safe for now, at least."

"Two feet! That's quite deep for people like Magpie, Tasselhoff and Flint" Goldmoon remarks after passing his bow back to Riverwind. She then turns to Flint. "Let me have a look at your hands, maybe I have something that helps you."

Flint blushes a bit at being fussed over. "Well, thank you, lass. There's no cure for being old, though, I guess." Nevertheless, the dwarf seems to be in higher spirits now and doesn't complain about his pain as much as he descends into the shaft to join Tanis.

"Two feet?" Sturm asks slightly apprehensively. "Indeed that is deep for some of us, I believe we should offer assistance." He looks to the shorter members of the party, "Tas, Magpie.. Do you need help? I would not even suggest aiding Flint."

He offers Laurana a hand onto the ladder, "Or you my Lady, I will offer support, but offending you is not my aim." He bows, and looks to the others. "I will ensure you are all safe, I will follow last."

"Raistlin, you are carrying the light, you should stay in the middle" Goldmoon suggests. "And those that can see in the dark rather front? We plainsfolk could come behind Raistlin and Caramon"
