"Has anyone in the group seen the signals in use?" Reller inquires.

"I've never seen the signals in use, but I did have a job offer from the smugglers. I was of a mind to take it too. Seemed like good money in the enterprise."

"I wonder what Amon managed to find before he was called away?" Brax asks curiously, "Perhaps Daos has some ideas."

"I just had a thought: the group that heads out to meet the boat will be posing at toe-cutters, not as the people the sailors are expecting to contact. So under the circumstances, it is not actually vital that the lamp code be sent correctly, capisce?
"Imagine this, if you will: the ship comes in, and somehow contact is initiated between ship and shore, or shore and ship. Presumably the sailors will send some signal, and wait for the appointed countersignal to know it is safe to land.
"What do you suppose would happen if the person signalling back were to accidentally drop his lamp and said lamp were to burst into flames? He would surely be too busy to give the proper countersignal, yes? Unless the countersignal is 'Help me! Put me out! I'm on fire!'
"And the folks on the ship would see a small fire break out on the bluff and perhaps even see a man trying to extinguish same. Would they not suspect such an accident had befallen their comrade, and perhaps forego the process of awaiting a countersign?

"It would still be nice to know the signals. Just in case." Brax suggests, before heading back upstairs to check on Gunter and appraise him of Drakes plan, while stroking his forehead.

"So, we would only need the start to the sequence." Reller agrees. "The fire would provide some cover for us to head out."

Searos rubs his chin in thought. "That might work, or it might just tell them things are not safe and they will keep moving along. It could be that a fire started because someone attacked the man. Who knows? Still, it is the best plan we have so far."

When Gunter hears of the plan the group has come up with he smiles lightly and coughs, telling Brax, "It sounds crazy enough that it might actually work. You can count me in for wherever you need me."

"But for now.. you rest." She says with a girlish giggle, stroking his head. "We need to wash this." She comments, hand in his hair.

"They won't leave. It's just not possible." Martin says, eyeing Searos.
"Have you ever heard of 'narrativium'? It is an element, like the Big Five - air and water and earth and fire and void. Or aether. Or Leeloo, if you prefer. And although it is not as powerful as they are, it is all around us and its presence is palpable.
"Narrativium is the stuff that makes stories happen. It makes sure that the constable has the biggest case of his life drop into his lap the week before he retires, or that a man disguised as a lady is inexplicable found attractive by some other male, usually a big, dangerous one.
"And the world loves stories. In a way, that is why we all exist - to provide stories to entertain the world. The smugglers leaving doesn't make for a good story. So you can bet your last silver penny that they'll stay. They just can't not."

(OOC: )So it seems like you've come up with a plan! If I understood it right, you'll need a second boat, but that shouldn't be a problem, given Martin's communication skills and the existence of young and adventurous fishermen in the village.
