Saltmarsh OOC Chat

Desolate and abandoned, the evil alchemist’s mansion stands alone on the cliff, looking out towards the sea. Mysterious lights and ghostly hauntings have kept away the people of Saltmarsh, despite rumours of a fabulous forgotten treasure. What is its sinister secret?

OK, I know that you, Jaded and Stik, are game masters with decades of experience, and that as a novice, I've been biting off a big chunk trying to master a game you play in. No wonder I find it hard to chew.

But as far as I got it, you both enjoy having a chance at being a player for once, not the master. So why are you pitting your characters against each other in such a way that I don't see a way to keep the game going with both of you in it??? and mock me when I make a mistake in trying to resolve the situation?

First of all, who's mocking you?

Second of all, I actually brought this up before--that Martin's actions were going to make it exceedingly difficult for him to be accepted into the party? And you said that you were viewing this game as a 'social experiment' and then also said:
Breila wrote:What will come out of it depends on his and your roleplay. If he "plays himself out of the group" by antagonising them so much they will not take him along, then so be it.
So I dropped that topic, on the understanding that it wasn't a concern.

Also, why are you acting like this is an issue of Amon vs. Martin? Is Amon the only one in the group who doesn't like Martin? Are you implying that, were Amon to leave the group or change his mind, that the others would all welcome Martin with open arms? I think you are severely overestimating the level of influence Amon has on the group.

I can understand the frustration of PC conflicts (it's something I've had to deal with on more than one occasion), but I think it's going too far to accuse us of deliberately trying to sabotage the game (especially after I already brought this up before, and you basically told me not to worry about it.)

Ok brax will go to the inn later with whoever wants to go, she lives there after all!

We can work with this, so Lets be calm and play this out.

Martin hasn't done much to get the group to like him, lets see if that will change in the future, lets give him one more chance? Its in character for a rather confused cleric!

Well, maybe I shouldn't read the posts here so late at night. It was 2:30 am for me, and I had planned on signing off and going to bed. Then I saw Jaded's post and thought "how am I going to handle this" and felt under stress because Stik came online at the same time and he had been angry before at the poor welcome his character had been given by the group (regardless of whether they are justified or not, emotions set people in motion), I feared he might then post something that would definitely tear the group apart.

Then I hoped to have found a solution by having Geraldine coming and telling that Drake was hosting a show at the inn. Had Jaded pointed that out in a simple way, like "err... Geraldine is already on the boat", I guess I would have responded "oh, sorry, going to fix that tomorrow".
Apparently, when I'm tired and under stress, I do not react well to irony. I felt mocked and lashed out.

So the "social experiment" turned bad on me... and I admit that when it started, I thought it would be interesting, but not that difficult for me to handle. You all are great role-players who portray interesting characters consistently. Only it turned out to be a little too much for me to handle. Sorry I freaked out.

I apologize then, if I offended you with my comment. It was meant to be light-hearted, not mocking. I can only assure you, I'm not the sort of person who would do something like that. (And in all honesty, I was actually half-serious with my question. Stranger things have happened in D&D than someone's doppleganger showing up, after all.)

If I may interject - lest Breila's message be misunderstood, I was frustrated last week, but not last night. I had already decided on a course of action, and nothing has changed.

To break the fourth wall for a moment, Martin's gesture is genuine and sincere. He is truly trying to unruffle some feathers and make amends in the best way he knows how, while at the same time making a point, actually a few points. If all he wanted to do was to make trouble, he could do so without inviting the party. It would actually be easier if they weren't around to defend themselves.

The situation only appears to be Amon vs. Martin because Amon has been the one most vocal on the subject.

I think Jaded is doing a great job of playing Amon. I feel like I know right now exactly who Amon is. And if Jaded has figured out what I am up to, but keeps on track because Amon has not figured out what Martin is up to, then we're really seeing some truly excellent roleplaying, and my hat's off to him.

Very minor detail, but I'm curious as to the spelling of Geraldine's last name. When Breila first introduced her, she spelled it as Petersson (one t, two s's), and I made sure to write it down as such to help me remember.

But recently, she and everyone else has been spelling it Petterson (two t's, one s).

Which one is accurate?

(DISCLAIMER: This is not me being a smartass; nor am I mocking anyone. It's a legitimate question that I don't know the answer to, and am asking for clarification.)

Let's stick with Petterson. I guess I had wanted it more "British" at first, but then habit took over and I used the more familiar and frequent Swedish version. I probably looked up which last name I had given her and misread it myself...

You know, Theology isn't my thing!

Its very hard to do this, when I dislike religion, I always have, although Brelia is making me realise its not so bad..

I am mindful that we are waiting on Brelia and while we are talking Amon and Echo are doing nothing.

Plus Stik, could you maybe put 2% of the effort it must take to type those posts into moving us a tiny bit forwards in BL?

I was getting the feeling that you were a bit uncomfortable, so I made the argument more literal to speed things along. I had actually worked out a line of reasoning that would have had your head spinning, wondering whether Martin was talking about the militia, himself, the smugglers, or Pelor, while he built an intricate paradox. ( I love playing "stump the father"! :) )

If I am not mistaken, Breila is away right now, correct? Otherwise we are leaving everyone else out, which would be rude.

Point (re: Borderlands II) taken. If I can get near the home PC (wife is still hogging it on a daily basis :)), I'll post some tonight . I need my notes and stuff to advance BLII, and I don't have them here at the office.

Lol Stik.

I'm wondering how our DM likes the RP we have been getting on with in her absence. And if she will allow the late night chat between Brax and Searos to happen in paralel with the next adventure?
