Chapter 2A - A Jaunt Into The Country

Unbar looks to Val quizzically. "Why are we going through someones chest? I thought we were clearing up the goblins so the townspeople could return home."

"We should always take a little for ourselves. In my experience you need to take care of yourself because most people won't take care of you."
"We should a least take a look at what they have."

The quartet return upsatairs.
Keller goes to the southeastern bedroom, steps in carefully and closes the door behind her.
Vic recovers his rope while Val eyes a chest in the northwestern bedroom.
Unbar eyes Val.

There is some floor remaining at the edges of the room.

Reaching the chest means hugging the walls to move carefully around what remains of the bedroom floor.
i.e. requires an Acrobatics skill check

Athletics: [1d20+5] = 10+5 = 15

Val will hug the wall and move towards the chest.

Investigation check on the chest: [1d20+1] = 18+1 = 19

Val reaches the corner containing the closed chest.

Val pulls out his thieves tools and tries to open the lock:

Dex: [1d20+3] = 12+3 = 15

The lock resists Val's efforts.

[counterkid]

"I can't open this chest. I guess fate is on your side Unbar. Let's leave this chest behind and go see what is going on at the bell tower."

[Nocturno]

"Here." Vic throws Val his crowbar.

Val can catch this eaily enough.

Since Vic seems to want to open the chest just as bad as Val. Val will catch the crowbar and try to open the chest.

advantage because of crossbar strength check: [1d20] = 10 + 3 or +5 = 13 or 15
[1d20] = 13 + 3 strength or + athletics 5 = 16 or 18

Athletics check for the way back:[1d20+5] = 18+5 = 23
Val will tie a rope around his waist and through it to Vic. "Vic her catch."

"Not sure what you are thinking this will do... you weigh about 6 times what I do friend." Vic laughs and pulls the rope tight.

The chest refuses to open and Val makes it back to the landing safely.

[Nocturno]

Vic will take his crowbar back. "The universe seems to be against you opening that chest. Probably just clothes anyway."

"To the bell tower." Val lead the way.
