The Heart of Darkness... [Main Game Thread]

The (Original!) Tomb of Horrors!!!
S1 by the great Gygax 1978. Everything adapted to 2e. This is NOT the Return to ToH written for 2e

Labyrinth of Madness!!! Previously Concluded (by TPK)
S6 by Monte Cook from 1995. Designed for 2e. IMHO this one is the tougher of the two, but not by much.

Lifting the lid on one of the two back pews, Tabbi discovers the storage space is filled with thousands of silver coins from countless countries and kingdoms, many long lost to history. It's the second Pew in the back row and finds it too has a hinged seat that can open in the same way. In fact now that she looks at the other pews she finds that all four rows are hinged in this way...

Van relaxes at the back of the room.

"Odd, I wonder if this is a warning or a sanctuary." Regarding the painting. He also goes over the riddle in his mind to try and apply a part of it to this room. Not seeing any mention of these landmarks, he tries to think about the Orange mist.

and the second great hall you'll discover.

"Hmm.. I wonder if all these coins are donations to this church. Sacrifice to their god. Do you think it is safe to touch them? Anyway, if there are no more hidden latches or levers on the benches, maybe we should check the altar, the dais and the chair." Galan suggests.

[just to be clear, ALL of the 8 benches have lids that can be opened. Tabi has only opened 1 bench on the back row]

As Galan is talking, Tabbi looks up at him and with a shocked expression on her face as she drops the coins back down. "I have already touched them. Do you think somethhing bad will happen to me?"

"Only if you listen to my brothers." He chuckles. "Some of these Gods are beyond even my rememberance. And as you all know how long that is."

Van will make his way to the last row pews. Starting on the one closest to the drawing he will stand to the side and back, and use the end of his weapon to open it.

Van tips open the second pew in the last row (farthest from the altar, next to the one Tabbi opened). It too opens w=easily to reveal thousands of silver coins!

Bryce will head to alter and peer around it for anything out of the ordinary. Taking the pole in hand, he cautions the party "Possible surprise coming up!", pauses for a mental count of 5 to give his party members time to heed his words and then gives the alter a good hard poke with the pole.

Galan looks at Tabbi with mischief, "Hmm... I wouldn't worry." after a short pause he adds, "yet..." he takes his Mandolin and quickly play a tune about 'Unlucky Scot, who missed a spot, met Imhotep who missed a step', raising the moral of the group.

Tabbi will hide behind the pew peeking over while Bryce pokes the Altar. She will count the coins when Bryce is done.

"One for me, one for Zafron, and one for the rest. Two for me, two for Zafron, and two for the rest. Just kidding, I know we agreed to split the treasure equally."
She will count out loud and split the treasure equally between the party members.

Tabbi will move to the second back pew once she is done with the first one and see if she can find traps on the compartment. If she finds no traps, she will open it.

Zafron will stand close to Tabbi as Bryce is poking the altar. He will draw attention to the riddle once again.
"Let's assume we are correct in our understanding of the riddle, if there is even an understanding. I think we might have found the second great hall in the last room. We took the black tunnel which might be (night's good color). What does (shades of red stand for blood the wise will not need sacrifice aught but a loop of magical metal)? Maybe this mean we don't need a blood sacrifice on the altar. "Bryce what do you see on the altar? Is the altar made of metal? Is it magical? Is there something round on it?"

Bryce taps the altar with his wooden pole and a jolt of lightning streaks up the aisle between the pews! The electric shock runs through Bryce, Van (who was standing to the side of a Pew to open it) and Sorril (who was behind him!).

Save vs Spell for Bryce and Van Pls ^_^

Info for Tabbi, Van has already opened the 2nd back pew to find a similar amount of silver

[higher is better for saves, so that's a pretty good roll]

Van and Sorril both dive to the ground as the lightning streaks towards them! The arcs of electricity rake across their metal armors, sending jolts of energy through their bodies; yet they avoid the worst of it.

====
Van Save vs Spell (9) [1d20] = 15 (+3 dex bonus to dodgeable saves) = 18, Saved!
Lightning strikes Van for Half: 40/2 => 20 damage!
Van is Hurt! [50/70 hps]

Sorril Save vs Spell (8) [1d20] = 10 (+4 dex bonus to dodgeable saves) = 14, Saved!
Lightning strikes Sorril for Half: 40/2 => 20 damage!
Sorril is Hurt! [56/76 hps]

"Wow! Are you guys all right?" Galan jumps to his feet to see the damage. Once he sees they are hurt but alive he says, "At last some action. Do that again!" he clearly jokes while going to Van and Sorril, gives them a hand and a close look over the injury.
