As long as someone grabs the end of his rope, he climbs down, and makes sure there are not surprises to greet the group as the land.

(Ok I am somewhat confused over some of this, I don't suppose there is a map that makes things clearer?)

[yes. he climbed down, then crawled through a tunnel and came to the bridge]

Elsa moves to the fore, I guess I'll go first since I can see without the light. Climbing down, she crawls into the tunnel and out of sight of the party

After confirming the lading is safe for the whole party, he will arm crawl to the other side, and check out the first 20 feet for any kind of trap, so the party can come through and stage.

Do Pytor, Elsa and Pyros all have infravision?
(That's why Jerry has been staying behibnd, as light kindof ruins any stealth etc that infravision may allow.)

Pytor does not, but wasnt carrying a light but from the description:
"The vapors have a very pale blue luminescance to them,"
there is some light from the mist in the chasm under the bone bridge
