Saltmarsh OOC Chat

Desolate and abandoned, the evil alchemist’s mansion stands alone on the cliff, looking out towards the sea. Mysterious lights and ghostly hauntings have kept away the people of Saltmarsh, despite rumours of a fabulous forgotten treasure. What is its sinister secret?

Well, it was a combination of bad luck and a poor decision that led to the detection of your attack.

I decided I would let the two officers on deck roll against their WIS score to suspect Martin and Searos were not new members of the smuggling gang. The scores were 9 and 10. so there was a fair chance of success for you. Unfortunately, the first roll was a 1, so the officer suspected a diversion and told the sailor operating the signalling lamp to scan the ship.

Second, if the two gnolls had been the first to board from the port side (as they had asked), there would have been recognised as belonging to Sanbalet's group and the alarm would have died down again.

Woo Hoo! Repartee!
There's a great moment in the movie The Last Remake of Beau Geste where Michael York and Peter Ustinov are about to duel, and the conversation between the two of them goes like this:
"Would you like to duel with conversation, or without?"
"With, I think."
Martin lives for moments like that.

Look at it this way: Martin is the red cape, the sailors are the bull, and you guys are the matador's sword.
The more he can keep the bad guys focusing on him, the easier it's going to be for the rest of you to do your part. Claiming to be the leader of the pack only advances that agenda.

I listed the spell in the post. It is the (( Melf's Acid Arrow )) notation. :)

Could it be that you didn't finish the post at first and edited it later? When I read it, it stopped after "..for a brief spell".
I generally use the "first unread post" feature, and when a post is edited, it doesn't show up and I know only the partially finished post, especially if someone else has posted before the post was edited.

So if any of you need to add something to a post made before, better do a new post to make sure I see it ;) .

Oh, and in this game system, initiative is done with a d10. I can round your figures, of course, but it's easier if everyone does the same.

I can roll a d10 in the future. :)

Yeah, it was an edit. Sorry about that...

Let's make this a rule (because I sometimes edit posts, too): When someone needs to edit a post, add a small post to the thread saying "my last post has been edited" and I will delete that one once everyone has responded.

Sorry folks, to leave you in suspense for more than a week!

You were lucky so far with your rolls. For example, had Punketah the mage won initiative last round, Reller, Searos and Brax would be stuck in a WEB now.

Hopefully by next Friday, not only Luna and I will have returned safely from our pilgrimage but Muffin Man will have finished his exams or at least have been able to take a break to show us some of his great roleplaying. And Gunter can act again, too!

I have fire spells left - web would have made it much harder to use. :)

Enjoy your trip!

It's 5/31. That means Breila will be back. Yaaaaay! Martin's back is hurting from having had to stand motionless for the past week. :)

Well yes, I'm back. But my legs are swollen from being near motionless on the train after walking 150 kms in 7 days. On the second last day, we had to extend the already long stretch by a quarter because people warned us the intense rains had washed away the trail. Sitting at the computer for longer than 20-30 mins hurts, so you may have to wait until tomorrow, because I need to draw a new map first.

Take your time - hope you feel better.

Ibuprofen works wonders at times like this. I fought today for only the second time this year, and it was a lot more physical today than last time, so I just popped a couple.

I hope the flooding missed you guys, over there. It looked pretty widespread from the pictures.

Thanks for asking. I was wondering if the floods made the international news. After all, it's mostly property and economic damage, hardly any lives were lost.

The dams held here in the area, we're in the southwest and got only the first part of the rains. Worst off is Passau on the Danube, which carried the rain of the first days from the west when joined by the Inn, which brings water from all over the Alps. They're having the worst flooding since 1501, and coming close to that "worst-ever" mark. The railway line we came back through on Friday morning was closed by Sunday evening.

The situation is particularly bad in Saxony (Dresden, Meissen) where for the second time since 2002, the historical cities will get flooded while the sun is shining bright from the sky... at least they had warning to take their valuables upstairs, but the buildings get damaged all the same.
