And, this is why the module tells the players and GM to follow the story line.

It does not work well if you step outside of the story.

Well in the book, Tika drove her back with the sword, Laurana is way too scared to think of that, just has time to tell people to flee...
And yes, we have parted fully, Qualinesti will fall and one of their princesses is about to fall too.

Really, the only way that the group succeeds in the books is through the Power of Plot. I'll not spoil it, but the ending is impossible to duplicate through ad&d game mechanics.
