Moving up, Beillion is using caution. "We will need to look the wounds when we stop for a break, too." He lets the others know ahead of time that he plans to look at the injuries. He takes up the rear guard as they move on. "I'd be careful of the magic. It could be a trap of some sort."

Sim stiffens then glowering, moves forward. His gaze focused on the northern wall.
"Beast of darkness, minion of the gods! You shall have my bloody bones over my dead body! I, Simarillacabum, command you begone or feel the might of my magic!"
Sim raises his staff threateningly.

Re: Down the Dungeon Way - the actual gaming thread
Evis stands with a childlike gaze as he looks about at all of the magic going on around him, the mages spell, the clerics healing powers, the floating coins. He is trapped in a little world of curiousity...eventually he snaps back into reality, he tugs on the mages robe.
so friend, what do you see? what are you barking at, old man!? he turns back to martin im going to assume that it does'nt he looks over into the room full of treasure...his jaw drops, m-my uh...my friends...i think this may be our, very lucky day he slowly walks toward the entrance of the hallway, looking around and inspecting the floor and walls... hmm...this seems rather perculiar to say the least

"Aye Lad... You'll get em back soon enough" He motions to the brightly coloured hankerchief potruding from the black armor..
"Thank you, Master..? Beilion is it?" nodding to the cleric, "Aye a rest would be good, later."
Drake pauses looking uncharacteristicly thoughtless. "If a simple stair means almost visiting the Great Forge.. I'd careful. I don't trust this one bit"
He sets to work using his little used but still sharp skill of hunting for hidden plates and shifting stones. Working in unison with Evis.
Ooc Drake searches the floor and walls slowly and carefully attempting to reach his axe in the process /ooc

(OOC - look at the map people! Those saying you are searching the walls and floors, I need to know exactly where you are. Are you down the long section (starts at the bottom of the stairs and goes north - the direction Sim said he is going? Or have you left the stair area and entered the 10' x 10' section to the right (east) of the stairs, and how far in? Yes, it does matter!)
*The she-wolf stands, turns, and with a flick of her tail, fades into the northern wall. To Sim, he can discern the door on the western wall even better, and can just barely see the brass plaque that is on the wall to the left (facing the door) of the door.*
*Evis and Drake find no traps.*

Kleos heads over to the door and examines what mechanism holds the locked. He then listens for noise on the other side.
Drake if you wish to rest and then catchup with the party later I will wait for you. I would not you to find home before me. As for this door, Evis, could you take a look at it for me.

Re: Down the Dungeon Way - the actual gaming thread
*Drake begins forward towards the area where his axe lies, but just as he is about to enter, he grabs at his stomach and collapses......dead. He suffered from a rare allergy from oxidized metal (rust) which turned his blood quickly into sludge, clogging up all his veins, arteries and organs. It was so sudden, he did not even have time to feel the pain of it, nor realize he was dying and say goodbye.*
*Kleos, having run ahead of Sim, has now reached the door on the western wall. The door is solid wood with raised symbols going around the door handle, which is in the center of the door itself. The symbols are, curiousily, of items that would be found in a baker's shop: cake, pie, muffin, donut and tart; and sit around the handle as if at the five points of a star. A brass plaque is on the wall to the left (looking at the door) of the door, and reads: "A baker measures and must be precise. This pastry though you cannot eat and is very unnice.".*
(OOC - Instructions to PCs - solve the riddle, press the correct symbol, the door will open; there are no traps at this door, just the riddle to be solved)
*Evis is torn between following Sim and Kleos to the door, or going for the treasure (in the room, on Drake's dead body, or both)*
*Beillion and Martin are still near the stairs, and are unsure as to whom they should follow (Kleos and Sim), going for treasure, or attending to Drake.*

Beilion comes up to Drake and inspects the wounds. He checks for any signs of life at this point. Not knowing what is going on, he asks the others. "Any idea of what just happened?" He waits for the others to reply as he inspects Drake.

Re: Down the Dungeon Way - the actual gaming thread
Sim smiles a thin, smug smile of self satisfaction as the wolf disappears. He turns to Evis about to answer when the dwarf falls a few feet away......dead. The smile disappears suddenly as Sim considers wether a Wild Surge caused his death or if it was a dark spell from the now vanished specter of the wolf.
"Wait!" he cries. "Don't touch that body! The effects of dark magic could still be lingering." Sim walks to the body and prods it with his staff while noting any magical items that may be on him.

"That's possible." Beilion says and looks at the body. "My faith will have to protect me if that is the case." He attends to their ill companion to confirm death before abandoning Drake.

Re: Down the Dungeon Way - the actual gaming thread
"There's just too much going on at once...I can't concentrate." Martin mutters under his breath. He sticks two fingers in his mouth and whistles, piercingly.
"LISTEN UP, EVERYBODY!" he shouts, his voice on the edge of hysteria, seemingly heedless of whether the noise might draw unwelcome attention. "Norman is dead, possibly from poison on the spikes. There is a great large spectral wolf down the hall. There is a treasure sitting here unexamined. There is a puzzle on yon door. And my braies are wedging up something fierce.
"Now can we concentrate a moment here? I just need a moment, that's all. Well, a moment and a sandwich. And a glass of mead. And maybe a cushion, near a warm fire. But I'll settle for a moment."
Once the activity has ceased for a second, Martin takes stock of the area and the people in it, then plunges ahead, speaking very quickly: "Talks-to-Catfood, I need you to keep an eye on that door and let us know if that wolf shows up again.
"Beilion, come over here and bless Norman's body - we don't want him standing up and saying: 'Braaaaiiiinnnsssss!!!' when we turn our backs.
"Kleos - anything comes through that door bigger than me, shoot it. Smaller than me, shoot it. Exactly my size, see what it's wearing. I could use some new clothes.
"And Fredo - There's a treasure to be examined. Get your three-foot-two-inch arse over here and do your job.
"Ready? On five! One, two, five!"
Having said that, Martin bends to pick up Drake's axe, surreptitiously picking his wedge out in the process, and waits for the others to respond.

Re: Down the Dungeon Way - the actual gaming thread
*To retrieve Drake's axe, Martin needed to walk 7' into the area where the treasure lies, and the gold coins float. A sickening, sucking noise fills his ears, not allowing him to hear any conversation that may be taking place between the other party members. He finds it very difficult to move, even to shout out to his comrades, as if his entire body has been engulfed in quicksand, wait.....more like jello.....jello? After a few minutes, any exposed area of skin starts to heat up, as if a fire has been lit around him. Another of the gold coins floats past his vision, but while his eyes follow its path, he finds he can only move his head as if in slow motion.*Stik wrote:"

(OOC - yes, I did state where Drake's axe had skidded off to, and confirmed how many feet into the 10' x 10', on prior postings. Also, only Martin feels the texture of whatever creature is holding him; all the party sees is Martin holding Drake's axe, and moving very, very, slowly and with difficulty.)
*Kleos, still standing by the wooden door, feels a poking at his rear. Turning, he will see the wolf, teeth showing in what could be called more of a grin, than a threat. She speaks to him, "Got another one!!! Oh, you impetuous ones do make my life so much fun." She then runs through the wall opposite the door (east).*

Re: Down the Dungeon Way - the actual gaming thread
Evis glances all around, his mind overloaded by the situation...he stares at the dwarf's corpse with wide eyes. Watching the elf and the mage discuss what just happened, and being the superstious monkey he is he clutches onto one of his necklaces, thinking to himself "this is bad, this is very very bad...in the names of the gods what is going on in this pit?...this place will be the death of me, i can feel it..." he takes a step back from the treasure. muttering to himself
He jumps as Martin whistles, turning to look at him but only half listening. When he hears his height his ears perk up, he turns to the fool and starts to speak with an awful stutter in his voice...
M-me? go in t-there!? are you mad!?...well...ok, yes, you are, b-but the fact re-remains. The dwarf just died! f-for no reason! that w-wolf is evil...that tr-treasure is evil! this whole place...i-it will be th-the d-d-death of me!
ooc i forgot to put on the character sheet that evis is very superstitious, magic amazes and terrifies him, he believes the current event of the dwarf dieing to be...magical in its nature, an evil magic no doubt/ooc
he watches as martin starts to move slower and slower...he stares...terrified, his thoughts race and he manages to get out a few words...
you see!? you see!? its just going to pick us off one by one...we havent been in here more than 5 blooming minutes and we are already lieing in our death beds!

"Hang on, let's not panic just yet." Beilion remains kneeling near their dead companion while watching the other guy move slowly. He sighs and asks the group. "I don't suppose anyone here does magics and traps at the same time?" The cleric looks at Martin. "Talk to us, Martin. What's going on!" He says in a loud voice. Standing, he says to the others. "This first, the rest of the stuff, later." He is quick to add. "So, yes - traps and magic. Anyone?" He inspects the area visually to try and sort it out if he can manage it.
