before moving to the torchlight (which would spoil his infravision after) he did not see anything to the west at the limit of his vision

No, i meant West down the long stretch that the leader and guards came from but i misread your message. He also didnt see anything approaching from the East

Sorry, I got really bad food poisioning and it took me out for over two weeks, I'm slowly recovering.
