WotL OOC Thread II

This 2E Dragonlance game is set in the city of Haven, during the War of the Lance. Haven is a city undergoing great upheaval. First massive numbers of refugees pour in, then the city is conquered by a draconic army. Can our heroes survive under this dark occupation?

Well that would be a delicate conversation indeed, for afaik Tulbas doesn't know Haahqae casts spells, unless he's been doing some spellcraft checks in secret :P Haahqae certainly thinks his identity as a mage is still safe and secret, but he does like "more knowledge".

Tulbas high int let him detect first lvl illusions and so he found out about Haaque spell craft when they fought the Ergothian force.

His high INT lets him see through illusions, recognizing them as such. But just because he knew the spell was an illusion doesn't mean he knows Haahqae was the one who cast it.

Darn you people and your high stats!

But... if prodded, Haahqae may be willing to trade Sekla's spellbook for Tulbas's (or whatever Tulbas studied from) for a day. Haahqae wouldn't loan his own spell book, he's very careful to not let anyone else see it ever (or even know that it exists).

Would you mind reminding me why Zoya didn't get a share of the gaint's loot? I had thought everyone involved got a share of the XP and loot, which meant the haul was split many-ways so it was not that much in total.

Gregeddin hired Zoya and Mateo as bodyguards and only offered them 15 steel pieces and a long sword (each). Having no idea how much they were getting ripped off (they were only level 1, and rather inexperienced beyond kicking out ruffians from the inn), they agreed. So that was all they got.

Sorry, I lost track of the list of dwarven settlements Grubnick might have come from recently. Ideally it would be close enough that Haven would make a good starting point for gis work, but far enough thar Delarn would feel sending him to Haven would be useful.

The chapter's named "Hard Choices" - So I figured I'd give Haahqae one to make.

It was here.
JadedDM wrote:Well, his bio says he was a hill dwarf, so he'd be Neidar, too.

At this point, pretty much any dwarf who shows up would be either Neidar (hill dwarf) or Aghar (gully dwarf). This was because when the Cataclysm hit 350 years ago, Thorbardin (the mountain kingdom of dwarves) sealed its entrance and has refused to open it since then. The Neidar and Aghar were the only dwarves living outside of the mountain at the time, and so were sealed out. The Aghar were pretty cool with it (being fairly dumb and used to living in filth anyway; plus there are still some Aghar in the mountain). But the Neidar (who lived in the hills outside of the mountain) were pissed and even tried to force their way back inside (known as the Dwarfgate war). They failed.

The mountain dwarves (Hylar, Daewar), the Klar (whom are quite mad) and the dark dwarves (Daergar and Theiwar) all still live in Thorbardin.

As for where he lived? Not sure. Your bio doesn't say anything to hint at where Grubnick grew up or his mentor. But if we assume they were fairly local, then he was probably from one of the Neidar villages around the Kharolis Mountains. There are a few to choose from:

Avalance (a Neidar village on top of Cloudseeker Mountain, which is the mountain on which Thorbardin is within)
Herdlinger (a Neidar village near the center of the Vale of Respite that was overrun by goblins and ogres during the war)
Hillhome (home to the Fireforge clan from the books)
Hillow (no information available)
Meadowfair (on the western edge of the Kharolis Mountains, is populated by both Neidar and humans)
Neidarbard (on the northern edge of the Kharolis Mountains, a weird little place populated by Neidar and kender)
Stormslope (Very close to Thorbardin, actually underground but still cut off from the mountain kingdom)
Underbluff (built at the base of Sheercliff)
Waykeep (no information available)
Windhallow (no information available but I have it on good authority it was destroyed; it may have been rebuilt, though)
Winterhome (in the Vale of Ice, further to the south)

So he's planning a heist? That could be interesting.

Planning is a strong word, especially for Haahqae, but he is considering it as an option now.

There's also an option of performing for the army in a hope that it will give him some intel about where some money is stored.

Hillhome sounds nice, though I've never read the books

As a bonus, Hillhome is where Shima is from, so it's a nice tie-in, as well.

So about Tulbas, should Haahqae just wait there until BishGada gets back, so we can deal with the spellbook thing, or should we skip over that part for now and have Haahqae leave the inn in the direction of a barracks, then assume that Haahqae and Tulbas had time to talk/exchange books in the meantime when BishGada gets back?

Well, he said he wouldn't be able to post for 2-3 days, and that was 2 days ago, so I'm assuming he'll be back either today or tomorrow.
